  1. Glad I could be of help. Now... sort me out with a copy of that Zodiacs 45 please...
  2. think you have to encode it at a fixed bit rate. go for: MONO sampling rate: 22050 constant bitrate: 48kbps

Originally issued on Startime as Johnny Love.
  4. Glad you liked it. Frank Polk recorded the original version of it on one of his Capitol 45s. A much "deeper" take on the tune and probably the preferable one to my ears (if I have to choose, which I thankfuly don't ). Here's an RA of Frank Polk as well:
  5. The german Bear Family label will release all episodes on DVDs over the next year or so. There will be 4 or 5 episodes on each DVD. The first 3 volumes has already appeared. Check them out: https://www.bear-family.de/mailorder/showon...ng=&p=BVD+20126 https://www.bear-family.de/mailorder/showon...ng=&p=BVD+20127 https://www.bear-family.de/mailorder/showon...ng=&p=BVD+20128 Haven't bought them myself yet, but judging by the extremely high standard which Bear Family usually has, I'm sure these DVDs are very nice indeed.
  6. I just put together an MP3 mix of some current soul/r&b faves of mine for another forum and thought that perhaps someone here would be interested in hearing it as well. 7. The Fiery Spartans was probably just a name for the backing band which Major Bill Smith came to think of while ordering the labels for the 45... the label states "vocal by Pic & Bill". The flipside, entitled "Cool", is the exact same instrumental recording which was issued 15 times or so on Charay by different artists as "Patsy". Here's a scan of the Fiery Spartans disc:
  8. No, sorry, that's one of the few 45s by them that I still haven't been able to locate a copy of.

A VG++ copy (american grading) sold on eBay six days ago for $355 (about £175-ish). A lesser copy sold four days ago for $255 (£125-ish). So I guess you should be able to get a M- one for about £200.
  10. Little Sherman & The Mod Swingers - The Price Of Love - SAGPORT or ABC £10-ish any day of the week. And don't forget... Betty Wright - Baby Sitter - ALSTON ...a fantastic tune which surprisingly few people on the northern scene seems to know about. Should never cost more than £3-£5. Attaching an RA of Little Sherman below.

  12. There's an (incomplete) Charay discography on David Flynn's site, check it out: https://www.capitolsoulclub.homestead.com/Charaylisting.html
  13. And to answer myself here some six months later... yes the Fiery Spartans "Talk About Love" 45 does exist, I've got a copy. It's the exact same recording as Pic & Bill and was most likely the first release for that tune. Do you need to know anything else Gareth?

There have been a bunch of different labels around using the Red Label name. One with Linda Clifford, Silent Treatment, Buckinghams and Osborne & Giles. One with some The Emotions releases. And then there's the one with some Barbara Trent 45s. Don't know if it's any of these you need info on.
  15. Hello! I've got a copy up for grabs of one of the rarest Tamla Motown LPs, the original UK mono release of: EARL VAN DYKE AND THE SOUL BROTHERS That Motown Sound (Tamla Motown TML 11014) Side A: Nowhere To Run Come See About Me You're A Wonderful One How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) My Girl All For You Side B: Too Many Fish In The Sea Try It Baby The Way You Do The Things You Do Can I Get A Witness Can You Jerk Like Me Money (That's What I Want) The previous owner obviously liked the LP and played it a lot as it is not in perfect condition. There are some scratches on the vinyl and the sleeve has got some creasing at the opening. It plays with some slight clicks here and there but nothing serious, especially not if you're gonna use this to DJ with. Great instrumentals to loads of Motown classics. Mint-ish copies sell for £125-£150-ish when they turn up. My copy is up for sale for £75 including shipping. PayPal payment only. Contact me on fonzeus@telia.com if you're interested. Thanks for looking!
  16. Craig Moerer has got 18 copies of this on his site for $20 each. That's at least $10 more than what it actually "should" cost considering how easy it is to find in the US. Here's the link to Craig's page with Geater Davis 45s: https://www.recordsbymail.com/artistPage.ph...rtistLast=DAVIS
  17. I don't know the story behind it... but it seems to be rare... Manship is selling a copy on his site for £200. I also really like the Chips Moman produced version by The Dynamics on Cotillion.

  19. Here's an RA of Blues Bag Ltd.
  20. The more uptempo version by The Royal Jacks on the Big 5 label is also nice. Blues Bag Ltd also recorded a dull version on Plumm. Listen to the Royal Jacks here:

  22. Great one Chalky! I'd go for: Dan Penn - I Need Some One - MGM Absolutely love it!
  23. Hope you like it when it arrives. I think it's a fantastic piece of music. If you don't like it, let me know and I'll take them off your hands as I've got friends who needs copies of that Blue Bull 45. Really looking forward to your tape!
  24. That's really nice of you. I'll PM you my address. Yes, I'm a big fan of gritty, dirgey r&b and I know the Little Joe Hinton track very well... a bit of an understatement perhaps... as it's been one of my top 10 wants for a couple of years now! Anyone got a spare? Have you heard "I'm A Loser" by Blue Bull on UNI (amazingly!)? Damn nice uptempo r&b shuffler.
  25. Sounds interesting. I'm always into hearing new tunes, but I'm in Sweden and can't easily get to those places. So I'll probably never hear it.
