Seconded. That Nina Simone version is one of my all-time faves. Clarence Carter's version is very nice as well.

Apart from Pic & Bill (whose material I love to bits), I really, really like the stuff from The Carbo Brothers a.k.a. Hank & Claude Carbo a.k.a. Claude & Hank Carbo on several different labels. Also Simtec & Wylie are nice.
  3. Totally agreed. The "Screamin'" part of his name surely makes sense! The flipside, "She's My Baby", is the top tune for me though. Got myself a reasonably priced copy a while back. Well chuffed.
  4. I get some of my deep soul from there as well. As you wrote, to each their own etc.
  5. Cheers mate! If anyone of you want to hear the tunes I mentioned above, here are links to some RAs: Otis Clay Winfield Parker Lee Moses Marvin L. Sims Truth L C Hank & Claude Carbo Jimmy Holiday Dan Penn Lonnie Mack Knight Brothers Trumains Tyrone Davis
  6. There are thousands of deep soul tunes that are worthy of mention IMO. Off the top of my head, here are some that I constantly go back to: Otis Clay - That's How It Is (When You're In Love) - ONE-DERFUL Winfield Parker - When I'm Alone - RU-JAC Lee Moses - Bad Girl - MUSICOR Marvin L. Sims - Danger - REVUE Truth - Come Back Home - SOUNDS OF CLEVELAND L C - Put Me Down Easy - SAR Hank & Claude Carbo - I Still Love Her - CASTLE Jimmy Holiday - I Can't Stand It - DIPLOMACY/KENT Dan Penn - I Need Some One - MGM Lonnie Mack - Why - FRATERNITY Knight Brothers - Temptation's 'Bout To Get Me - CHECKER Trumains - Girl Don't Let Me Down - VIGOR Tyrone Davis - A Woman Needs To Be Loved - DAKAR etc. etc. etc. There are sooooo many.
  7. Not that strange really, I think that "I Saw The Light" would've fit nicely onto "Tapestry". Todd was extremely influenced by artists like Carole King and Laura Nyro at that time (check out some of Laura's early albums if you haven't, she's got a very "special" voice, but those melodies!!!). Have you heard Todd's "We Gotta Get You A Woman" (let me know if you haven't and I'll send you a copy)? It's eerily similar to Carole King's song writing style. Absolutely awesome stuff!
  8. What a fantastic piece of music. Love it to bits.
  9. Chuck Wood - Seven Days Too Long

  13. Four Tops "Opportunity Knock (For Me)" from their "Now!" LP is a big fave of mine.
  14. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in Record Wants
Yes... but then they manage to mention "demanding man" 20 times during the last minute or so... The tune does nothing for me and it has got absolutely awful lyrics. Nice punchy sound and harmonies, but it doesn't go anywhere IMO. However... their "Lonely World" on Way Out... now THAT is a proper stomping tune with a nice flipside as well. Top stuff for £15-£20.
  15. It's called "I Feel Your Love (Coming On)", is quite a bit funkier and clearly a mid-70s recording. Not particularly good at all, but with nice gritty vocals. By the way, the WFB 45 is in stereo. How about the BC one?
  16. Haven't heard the King Solomon cut (would really like to if anyone's got an RA)... but that Singers 45 is one damn fine record! Cheap as chips and two fantastic sides.
  17. Dean Barlow - Don't Let Him Take My Baby / I Didn't See Nobody Dance - RUST 5068
  18. Has a bunch of these turned up? Noticed that Shifty had it on his latest list for £75 (but I missed it... ) which seemed very cheap.
  19. I managed to sell 4 of the above, but I've thrown the remaining 18 on eBay with a low starting bid. Check it out if you're interested: https://search.ebay.com/_W0QQgotopageZ1QQsassZpushkings

No, not at all. I'll try to find out more about the Eugene Blacknell records later this week. I seem to remember them sounding quite bluesy. Here's another one on a Clara label: CLARA 111 - Betty Green - Lonely Girl / ?
  21. Sebastian replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
I agree with everyhting you wrote Christian. Great tune. Wouldn't mind a copy myself... By the way, what is known about the Clara set-up? A friend of mine has got some Eugene Blacknell 45s on that label.
  22. I'll probably be listing the following lot of 22 records on eBay soon, but first if anyone of you would like to have any or all of them, e-mail me on fonzeus@telia.com and we'll work something out. All 45s are reissues in the Goldmine Sevens series so I'm naturally not looking for loads of money for them. It's fantastic music, but they're gathering dust over here and I need some more shelf space. 23. I've got a copy of Ella's fantastic version of "Get Ready" (as included on the "After Hours" CD etc.) up for auction on eBay in case anyone's interested: https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=4042519020 Ends in couple of hours.
  24. No, that won't happen. If you don't adjust the anti-skating properly (as I described above), the stylus will "lean" against one side of the groove instead of going in the middle with equal pressure on both sides of the groove, hence wearing out the record faster (or at least one channel of the record - listen to those styrene records with noise only in the right or left channel). Check out the "techinque" part on this page: https://www.vinylunity.com/vinyl-record/index2.php
