  1. Thanks Richard that's cleared that up. Kev
  2. Can someone tell me which copy this is as I've heard there were west coast and east coast copies. This is a different design to the w/d I used to have years ago. Thanks Kev
  3. Not quite true.....when I first moved to London 86/87and began missing my Northern Soul fix I ran a club in Clapham Common-Upstairs at the Alexandra...The main dj's were Keb, Ady, Guy, Val, Roger, Ian Clarke, Roger Banks, Ion, Rob Marriott, Mike Atherton etc.... to name a few......It was where I first met Tony Smith, Russ Vickers, Jill, Ion, Kenny, Gavin Page, John Buck, Terry Jones, Paul Sadot, Mark Houghton... too many to mention.....I've also lost count of how many people still tell me it was their first proper Northern soul club experience and it was what made them stick to the scene and head up to the 100club and check out RSG and other places around. We had a ball down there for quite a few years. I know its a long time ago and we were all a lot younger (Ian D I didn't know you were 90yrs old):-) but this was well previous to Scensesville and the Valatone etc. We used to send people to the 100club to gain the fuller experience. The music we turned over down there was unbelievable..the passion was great. I'd say the only soul nights in London at the moment kicking it on the 60's side are Boogaloo where Warren allows the djs to play what they want and Solid Hit where the djs have rare collections. (I can't really comment on places I've not visited yet so not missing out anywhere on purpose) Other places I go can be a bit antisceptic but they are slowly listening and changing some of the promoters are young and newish to it all.) Others play safe but these places need time to get it right. Maybe they will. Hopefully they will. Its the same with the 100club. I've talked to lots of first timers at the 100club recently, soulies & not so much soulies. Ok a few are arsy but most of them are amazed. They've never experienced anything like it, they need a bit of coaching in etiquette but they get it in a strange way...and nevermind that I can find some of the 100club regulars can be arsy sometimes. A lot of the 'new bloods' as you call them are really nice people-don't judge a book too much by it's cover. They might not have the history/baggage that older members have but it doesn't mean it's not a special night out for them. A lot of them are beaming when they leave but somehow don't find their way back on a regular basis because they haven't come to this through the 'normal' channels of family or friends but usually just out of being inquisitive. I remember taking quite a few young mods under my wing so to speak in the 80's. Talking to them and helping them feel comfortable and understand it all. You can tell who feels uncomfortable by just keeping your eyes open-ask Mark Freeman. There's been problems with arrogant buggers who don't quite get it but they're soon sorted as they would be anywhere. There's never really been much of an old guard attitude at the 100club more than other places I think people have been left to enjoy themselves and the music. I would hate that to stop. I remember when Kirsty was cheerleading and go go dancing and who remembers the fairy/angels???? An.d god Ion in full flow on the dancefloor would scare anyone. One thing I'd like to see is more passion down there-more friendliness (which is returning). I've been saying if this can happen it'd be like Burnley taking the Stretford end. I hope the next one is a big party. The 100club deserves better. Best again Kev
  4. It's not a blip Kylie more like a bit of a coronary...trouble is there's been lots of unpassionate people going there for a while and now that they've gone the people who understand what the 100club has always been about are returning ....slowly. Best Kev
  5. Ian I can understand that some people may not be able to keep up the pace all night but London as you know has an excellent night bus service and people can always use the net to find cheap hotel deals. As for hanging about for the more hardy of people we always have a decent few after hours in McDonalds opp. Tottenham Ct Road tube. We discuss the night and records etc. What collecters do. By the time we've finished it's usually about 9.00 ish anyway. Anyone who is happy to join us come along. It's a gas. Best Kev
  6. I know its local for me so easy to attend but if the 100club nighters disappeared it would for me leave a huge hole in the uk club scene. The hundred club has, since I moved to London from Lancashire 25yrs ago, been my 'soul university'. In those years I've developed my appreciation of 'rare' and 'not so rare' soul dance music. I've made many many friends and danced my ass off! If there are a few holes in the 100club dancefloor I've probably helped make them! I've seen the 100club go through lots of changes since I became a member all those years ago but it has always held its own. The music policy at the moment is as Ady says 'spot on'. I'd say its the best its been for a good couple of years. Butch has been awesome as usual. Mick Smith has dropped some of his crappier rare 70's. Joel has slipped effortlessly into the place once held by Irish Greg and Shifty and recent guests have made the grade, especially Kitch who I thought was outstanding. Ady is happy when everyone else is happy that's what he does. I know he can be a bit grouchy sometimes but god running the 100club for 31 years would do that to anyone occassionaly. Recently watching him play those records that he and Ace turn up is lovely. Ady's not that smug with it, and he very well could be, but you can see the inner smile. He loves it. As for the non-soulies sometimes they can be annoying-last month they spoilt the night but there's always been people like that down there it's Oxford Street. Imogen's right they just stand out more at the moment. As for all this package rubbish some people are talking about, sod off! You either are gonna get down the 100club and hear rare soul dance music. The best rare soul dj in the uk and the friendliest crowd there's been for a while. If you're not interested keep away. Also if you're thinking of making a trip please don't go there with an attitude. There's nothing to gain down those steps except a bloody good time. I've been in London 25yrs now and apart from a couple of other things its the 100club that has kept me here all these years. I used to say the 100club feels like an extention to my living room. That's how comfortable I feel about it. You could say I'm biased. You'd be right. The 100club as a club and as an allnighter with a unique atmosphere should be cherished. If it disappeared you'd miss it. All the best Kev
  7. That's Right Ion. Guy asked our Mick to do the door as he was head bouncer/doorman at Burnley Cats/ The Circulation/ and various Town Centre pubs at the time. Kev

  20. I would have loved that Dave. Norman Johnson and co. Burnley Mecca. Great stuff. Kev
  21. First time I saw emidiscs (about 73/74) metal plates cut with the latest sounds. There used to be machines floating around. I remember Sean Cain in Burnley having one and swopping it for a tatoo gun. Everyone went from having really heavy record boxes to having David Carradine dragon tattoos on their arms. Kev Richard and Ginger used to dj at Burnley Cats/Rose Room and Richard Searling used to dj with our Dave at the Concorde Club next to Burnley bus Station. By the mid 70's when I got into Northern Burnley and surrounding area was a definite hotbed of Northern with clubs almost every night and week. Keithley Green/110 Club/The Circulation/Rose Grove/Lowerhouse Canteen/Bankhall Miners/ Buffs Club etc etc. Kev But Simon I wouldn't say these days were pre Northern Soul. Northern had been going for a long time before the early 70's.
  22. Simon The Cat's Whiskers/Burnley Mecca was where I would have cut my teeth/dancing legs way back in 71' 72' as an 11 yr old. platform shoes/white bomber jacket-hair like the son out of wait til your father gets home. Under 16's Sat afternoon disco's. But where I would first hear Miracles/4 Tops/Temps/Supremes etc alongside Little Eva records. This would be pre Northern days for me. Then a few years later we had Stuart Kelso was the resident dj under 18's Sunday nights. He played the last hour Northern. I remember The Jades 'I'm Where It's At' 'This Beautiful Night' 'We Go Together' Exus Trek and similar stuff. Later it evolved into The Rose Room/Lancastrian Suite etc. Used to attend Ginger's mini Nighters til 4am. Although before my time I think there were alldayers there in the early 70's. Someone was saying on a lookback thread that they saw Chairman of the board there in the early 70's. Best Kev
  23. Cheers for that Nev-I hadn't made the 'Big Black Boots' connection. (which I don't Like) Wouldn't want to pay anywhere near £40 for this tho' Your $25 seems a better shot. Thanks Kev
