  1. there are musical giants, Curtis Mayfield, Van McCoy, JB, Smokey, etc etc. among that list, is Lamont Dozier ! a True genius , his arrangements in the studio, turned songs into masterpieces. awful news, im saddened.

  3. THIS ! its all 'pop' music, the only difference:- some were commercially succesful, some were'nt ....
  4. same as the above post, our 'youthy' was where we heard records for the first time. our peers would bring their records to the side room, we had a good system to play them on and we had a lot of people, week in week out, dancing to these sounds. i heard songs ranging from: susan coleman, to james coit, to the ellingtons, to the Capreez. we had a bloody good thing going. when you're 15 and itching to go to a proper venue, believe me, these nights got you buzzing. i dont mind admitting it......
  5. cant argue with the above (Sooty) , well said
  6. i can name quite a few.... but i best not 😉
  7. seen it fetch crazy money... £30 is par for the course. . good record, regardless of its' chart history. (not at a Northern soul event tho, please)

  9. i have a good mate, in 'Bama.... gonna ask her to scour record shops, for a certain UNITY single
  10. on a side note, i had 3 copies of candi, late 70's . i have no idea to this day, if they were bootlegs, originals or any other flavour. i sold the last of the 3 to billy, for a tenner.
  11. whoever paid over 500 quid for jerry naylor, needs a head shake. absolute garbage. .... please, DO NOT say its a good record, in any way shape or form. its dross !! the video confirms it.... jeeeez .
  12. Rushbrooke........ not sure who discovered/first played it. but Gary certainly made it part of his sets, on station road and beyond
  13. cant speak for any, except the 'Charity Soul' event. these have run in conjunction with the weekenders, for years. (George hotel, as well.... i think). Bridlington is always popular, at the Windsor hotel. it does nothing to detract from the Spa... its good to get out n about, you have a wristband, youve paid, so free to roam the town and do what you please. same goes for the Buck Inn, Whitby. its always rammed, always popular , but most of all, it raises money, for something that every man may need , at some point. Most come and go, but spend most of their time in the 'main event' and go home happy. whats not to like ?
  14. who started this annoying phrase? we see weekly ads and flyers, for 'soul and motown' events.... even well known promoters use it ! jeeez 'Soul and Stax' or 'Soul and RCA' doesn't have quite the same ring to it 😗
