  4. after listening to that clip above ^ ^ . i have a question thats bugged me for years : did the Major have a brass section in the backing band during that Torch gig ? i heard the LP years ago and i thought the band were very bland, hearing it again has prompted me to ask the question p.s. dont get me wrong, i would have loved to have been there, sadly before my time though

i know exactly how it feels! playing in various bands over the last few yrs has made this a nightmare. a drum kit will trip most of these things, thats even before amps kick in. sign it folks, after all, the 5Kw rig at the grosvenor rooms sound fantastic, i'd like to keep it LOUD n CLEAR

  8. dunno but i specifically remember him playing it at an all dayer around 79 at the world famous 'painted lady' , kirby bellars (melton) on a side note, i seem to remember the mighy 'Bub' and his anti static jumper doing a spot at the same venue
  9. Phil Coulter - good thing going
  10. Monaco, 20th dec , i heard it too
  11. amazing recording...... it may be overplayed and annoying to some but when that 'rim shot' blows your ear drums after the fourth bar (intro) you realise that it was something special. the string arrangement is to die for as well. I think it is a fantastic record, it will get played at home now and again but if i dont hear it at a soul club i wont be upset. each to their own
  12. 46, a relative youngster I seem to have been doing this forever though, who else thought 30 yrs ago that they'd still be doing soul clubs this far down the road?

oh another Ian ! not heard of you though, are you Steves brother? only messin, i have no idea about past arguments so ignore my little piece of sarcasm. i will say thankyou to Mr Levine though for 'shaping' the way the rare soul scene has taken us over the years. some fine ( and not so fine ) discoveries. legendary venue, Colin Curtis..... "small boys in the park, jumpers for goal posts"
  14. makes me realise how much material from the motown stable was issued. (or not). the mainstream public just dont understand the vast wealth of stuff that only us lot know , thankfully very interesting programme, a lot of it was new to me, good stuff from the beeb
  15. im not one of the bidders but i do think it is the finest soulful vocals ever put on vinyl, spine tingling strings ....... simply magical
  16. "SIMPLY THE BEST NORTHERN SOUL DANCER EVER MADE IN MY OPINION - TOP DRAWER SOULFUL UPBEAT DANCER" in my opinion, probably the best SOUL record ever made
  17. i'll be thinking of you all as i play my drum kit with the band. lots of cheesy pop tunes from the past 50 yrs on the cards, we may even do 'The Snake' HAPPY NEW YEAR

get yersen to the Grosvenor rooms (sutton in ashfield) Barney. went last week, plenty of 'top 500' , the odd more recent biggie but a lot of long since heard quality oldies. the last DJ of the night actually made me take my jacket off and hit the dancefloor again, these were tunes that made me realise what fast rare dance music was all about
  19. hmmmm, Bobby Hutton is a sound rarely heard by myself of late, Bobby Womack on the other hand...........
