i think your use of the term "photocopied" is causing confusion. None of the Jamaican 45s you posted have what I'd term as "photocopied" labels.
  3. there is a killer surf 45 by a different The Jaguars on Epic which Jazzman just reissued.
  4. totally agree with this.
  5. yeah, happens a lot, sometimes the fade out will be timed too.
  6. yeah, lol at this version, totally sounds like Brenton is playing organ & singing in another room without headphones while the count five record plays in a room down the hall & the mic is somewhere in the hallway or something. i still dig it though.

those all look like pretty standard jamaican 45 labels from what i can tell, i really think you & tony are talking about different things here?
  8. bro, dating records? i know we love records as much as anyone but that seems like a pretty one sided affair...... anyways, yeah, as long as it has a delta number you can work out the month/year, as people have mentioned stuff was plated by monarch & then pressed at other plants depending on demand/busy-ness so it still probably won't be all that far off the mark. also it is more common for monarch to not have the "MR" if it is a vinyl press. but i'm not 100% sure how one would identify a 45 being pressed at monarch if it is vinyl with a delta number but no MR stamp.

it's the upcoming edition that's currently in the works, can't remember if it's scheduled for later this year or sometime next..... or maybe i dreamt reading a release date somewhere, anyways....
  11. ha, i don't think i've ever flipped the 45 over & listened to the remix side i like it

ok, sorted, so Vicki Starr is another psuedonym for Vikki Styles & Vicki Williams. I've been looking for Vicki Styles on Lynn's ever since I was told about it by another collector, no wonder I've never hit on a copy, I should have been asking for Vicki Starr on Lynn's the whole time

pm'd, thankyou so much, this 45 has proven to be extremely elusive, glad to have finally found someone to definitely confirm its existence

I was talking to the guy at Shangri La about this & he managed to resist the temptation, but the thought did cross his mind

nah, i understand entirely, i don't know that it's ever been an "in demand" record but it still will fetch a good price when offered for sale to the right people. it has it's fans. i think it's a tough one to categorize, it wants to be northern using the OTDTYH backing but the wobbly horns & funkier drums kind of wreck that, it's probably too crudely funky for crossover, too soul for funk. it just kind of straddles some sort of "no mans land" as far as which scene to place it in. The deep flip is nice so it has fans there at least. I've played The Tears Won't Stop Falling out at various soul & funk nights & it's at about 50/50 the times it's either kept the dancers going or totally killed the floor. Sadly people will dance to the intro (thinking they're getting Darrell Banks), then dwindle off as soon as the vocals start. I'd call it "funky soul" but the recent thread shows us how little Soul Source thinks of that sound

whoever did the youtube clip has a pic of the label of the first copy I ever found, i think it's also using a low quality soundclip i made off that same copy as well... from when i first blogged about it on waxidermy. you really don't like it?

For a first-timer to Memphis I recommend taking a Memphis Music Tour https://www.shangrilaprojects.com/ email Sherman through the link on the page & check his prices & availability. He will take you around a lot of the music sites you will struggle to find on your own & can even liase your trips to Sun/Stax/Graceland etc. Also recommend the Memphis Rock & Soul Museum just off Beale. If you're into guitars, taking a trip through the Gibson Guitar Factory across the road is cool. Try to get a hotel near town, NOT SOMEWHERE OUT BY THE AIRPORT!! Also, watch out around the Civil Rights Museum, we were waiting for a cab & a guy tried to hold us up for money. Luckily the taxi showed up just in time. I wouldn't bother with River Records, just hit Shangri La & Goner.

I sold my spare of the Odex privately for $800US within an hour of posting it up (the other copy I gave to my girlfriend as a present), so it definitely has demand for some collectors. Not 700 pounds but I gladly jumped at the 500 pound offer.

I love this 45. The right amount of amateur charm to make it something special IMO. Read ups here: https://greenvilleandbeyond.wordpress.com/artists/vikki-styles/ It's definitely rare, I got stupidly lucky & pulled 2 mint copies in one hit a couple years ago, so added to the one I kept I've had 3 copies in my hands. I know one other copy from that same stash which went to Australia. I'd be really interested in hearing & getting a label scan of the acetate mentioned above to include on the website, anyone able to get me in touch with the current acetate owner? Vicki Styles' other 45 on Lynn's is the rarest by far, I've never seen or heard that one!!
  21. yeah, screw those dudes, talentless hacks!!
  22. yeah, great cheapies, i like both those records. don't have any others by them.
  23. i would say it's real, why would anyone photoshop the promo markings off??
  24. btw there has been stock of it on styrene just turned up in the US so everyone can get a copy, well if anyone still needs a copy that is it's been on ebay a lot recently, same guy who was selling a lot of the MGM/Verve deadstock stuff.
