  2. The very same thing happened to me a few years ago, visited my parents and there was a junk box of 45's in the shed which I must have left years before, flicked through them and found a VG copy of The Trends - Gonna Have To Show You - ABC hapy days. Mark Bicknell.

  6. Now £450.00 good price. Mark Bicknell.
  7. You need a pair of these to really be into Crossover lol
  8. I Really feel for the bloke here, hurts like hell when you have a few go missing but can't imagine a full box worth, about 15 years ago my wife Jacqui took a small fifty sales box to a soul night locally to us, front of the box, Ollie Jackson - Wipe Away The Tear Drops, Velvet Satins - Demo, Dickie Wonder, Hesitations - Built That Way - Demo, Intros - Jamie Issue and several others were removed from the front of the box by some low life chancer, when Jac got home I was off to an allnighter and as soon as I picked the box up I knew it was light of a few records, opened it up and this cold panic went through me like I'd been hit by a bus, all the tasty sales at the front gone, had no way of finding out who took them and never got them back, all you can wish for is that whoever steals records will have nothing but bad luck, I can't see what pleasure anyone would get by actually playing a stolen record, has to be financial reasons to try and make a fast buck through someone's misery. Good luck and I so hope you get them back, all you can do is move forward as time heals and all that but even after all these years it still angers me to think someone at a soul night could steal from a fellow soul fan, if they wanted the records that bad or did'nt have the funds I would sooner give them the fucker rather than have it stolen. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  9. Elbie Parker - Please Keep Away From Me - Veep Demo - styrene copy, strong VG+ condition plays nice but as with many copies there is some slight styrene distortion which has remained the same since I've had it, plays well nice and loud, hard record to find, I'm pretty fussy when it comes to condition but due to the nature of styrene I have to mention this - £450.00 reduced good price - cheques/postal orders/cash and pay pal welcome as a gift to avoid fees, postage free sent special delivery - contact bicknellmark@aol.com or via PM here. Regards - Mark Bicknell
  10. Slightly repeating myself here but a valid point is sometimes you have to go backwards to move forward, recently I was trying to work out what first drew me to this music and the answer was so obvious I was blinded, messing about with records one afternoon I stuck on things like Jackie Lee - The Duck, Temptation Walk,Little Hank Mr Bang Bang Man, Gene Chandler - Mr Big Shot and so on, POW! tunes what it's basically all about, powerhouse driving beats, stunning vocals, perfect tempo etc. it really matters to me what era these records are from as I've said before a quality record is a quality record or imagine Jackie Lee - The Duck had never been discovered until now it would certainly hold it's own with the likes of Margret Little and in my opinion leave it for dead no contest, so many records get left behind in the pursuit of something new and different which is all well and good if the new and different hold the key ingredients and traditions of a quality tune. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  11. Went down the rare route for many years when I was DJ'ing and it's so easy to get sucked into the if it's cheap it can't be any good syndrome which we all know is total bollocks lol, there so so many cheap/common/easy to find records that if they were hard to find they would be four figure sum records in terms of musical quality and merit if that makes any sense, stuff like The C.O.D.'s - I'm A Good Guy, Syl Johnson - Try Me, Lou Bond - You Shake Me Up etc. etc. all hold their own with the big ticket items in terms of quality, it's funny that kudos seems to only come if records are shit rare and high priced, perhaps this is less important these days but it certainly has been the case over the years, if you scratch the surface and step under it then there are hundreds of records out there to go at, digging around on Ebay in the wee small hours most certainly proves that lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  12. Seems to me that the quality new discoveries are few and far between these days as it's already been stated here to find a new 60's record to compare with the now classics is now rare in it's self, however perhaps the injection to freshen things up is sitting right under our noses, I've started to revisit things which I used to have or which passed me by before and when you actually start to play one or two things it's easy to see that some records take on a whole new life and you forget how good they actually are, quality is quality from whatever era. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  13. I would ahve thought a very small venue with DJ's and punters under five feet tall...get it mini allnighter lol

Funny this I was going through a couple of boxes and found this the other night, remember picking the 45 up a few years ago, what a great tune. Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  15. Point taken Joan still I've only got a few pressings left now anyway be them 60's original pressings lol
  16. You could say that about record dealers or people who post big sales list on here or play lists etc. etc. Mark
  17. Not at all mate did I think you were being pissy, however I have sent your wife a letter telling her how much you have soent in the past two years and told her to buy her bloody handbags from your local market lol, you stick with the original records mate and let her have the dodgy copy handbags lol on a more serious note collecting records is a very personal thing and whatever level or standard of records every collection is special to it's owner, despite selling as I've gone throughout the last thirty odd years for whatever reason I still have the bug, urge and desire to buy records and Jacqui makes do with an Asda carrier bag lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.

  19. Steve, I live in Mnachester mate, I think we DJ'd together a few years ago now at a do in Leeds run by Pete Smith, pretty sure you were there, I've not really done anything for a couple of years more out of choice, other commitments and it got a little stale for me but would maybe consider the odd spot, not cheap mind lol Regards - Mark Bicknell.
  20. No mate you have some nice records, many of which I stil have or have had lol same old story, collecting is a very personal thing, as I'm not active anymore as a DJ on the scene I have moved on some of the so called big hitters and collect basically for me now, don't get me wrong I have never bought a record I did not like but it's easy to get sucked into the you must have the biggies to be a good DJ, it helps but not always the case, if you have pulled these records together in two years then you should be very proud of yourself mate, blood, sweat, teasr and a lot of money lol collecting don't you just love it. Regars - Mark Bicknell.
  21. Is that it lol
  22. I have a couple of 50 count boxes which actually hold 67/68 records which sit at the side of my turntable which I rotate/add/subtract as the mood and tunes take me, not actually a DJ box as I don't really do that anymore, thought this could become an intresting thread so heres the contents of one of those boxes. 24. 30 quid sounds about right but 30 quid well spent top tuneage. Mark Bicknell.
  25. I've been playing Ebay rather a lot just recently, wheeling, dealing, buying, selling, been picking up bits and bobs of things I once had or that passed me by over the years, so rather than trawl through page after page on there I find it sometimes quicker to just punch it an Artist name, title etc. just done it on Patti Austin and noticed these £8.99 Buy It Now Coral - I've Given All My Love To You Look A Likes, also seen The Vibrations - Cause Your Mine on this White Okeh looking thingy fuck me they can't even get the label right lol, I know this bootleg thing has been done to death on here but these bloody things seem to be out there in mass, whos doing them? where are they coming from? and why do Ebay allow these things to be sold on there? I don't have a problem with the odd 70's boot, reissue being offered on there but these things are new and current, I thought a couple of people got busted and taken to court but even that seems to make no difference at all. Then there is those nasty looking home made things on there as well, Motown tracks a plenty Oh I so wish they would go after these people which might go someway to stop this abuse of copy right, the joke is that some of the titles are pretty common and cheap enough to look for on the first generation original so makes you wonder whos buying them, they have no investment or rarity value at all and I can't see the point of wanting to own something which has no authenticity, if you just want to own the tune then why not simply download tracks off the internet or buy CD's, seems to be this it has to be on vinyl mentality with the Northern thing but again the joke is buying these fake records has nothing to do with that ethic as it ain't collecting is it? Regards - Mark Bicknell.
