Is the issue worth that much more than a properly mint demo?

Bill Bush ended lower than I had expected but despite the fact that JM didn't comment on it in his condition report it does look like one of the ones that was pressed very off centre?

Ella Woods was a Huge price, the rest are all a bit underwhelming. I am still convinced that apart from the odd case of overexuberance that record prices have peaked and will start to fall back a bit.

I think that prices have levelled and in some cases are not achieving the crazy highs of the last 2 years. There are quite a few big ticket items (£3k and more) on well know sellers web sites that have been sitting around for a long time and are presumably being sold at less than the sticker price, or withdrawn, whereas a year or two ago they would have disappeared in moments.

Setting the record straight - Four Larks / Four Seasons
I don't understand why anyone would be surprised about 'Northern Soul' records existing south of Birmingham or anyone having an interest in them. I come from Bournemouth and my mates and I grew up visiting the Hive on the beach front and the Sunday Beat Club at the Pavilion. These is where the mods and skin heads went so there was always loads of rare soul music. This was 1969-1971 and the older lads used to ride their scooters up to London and do the clubs there and bring back loads of stuff on Ric Tic, Golden World and other records we had never seen. Also being a town full on old people junk shop hunting was quite fruitful and that was where I started collecting what I thought then was just rare and unusual soul. It was not until I started buying Black Music and Blues and Soul and a couple of lads moved south and started doing Northern Soul nights in a room above a burger bar in 1971 that I got to know that this was a big thing up north. I was still only 13-14 and we were talking about going to The wheel, then it closed and a deep depression set about us as we thought that it would all come to an end. Then Wigan opened and in the October of 1973 at the age of 15, off we went. 10 of us in knackered rented Comer van sitting on a many mattress for around 7 hours there and 7 hours back. After that we were hooked and went as often as we could afford to scrape together the money for a van and the fuel. The other kids at school were all into Queen and rock music and when we told them where we had been they thought we were nuts! We knew better and the following year when we left school at 16, three of us went to Blackpool for 10 days so that we could do the Mecca and Wigan on the same nights. How lucky we were to live in such simple times, we had sod all money but we enjoyed life and made the most of it.

How often do you see a Dean Parrish original copy never mind a first issue that is in mint condition?. I think that it's one of those that comes up so rarely these days that it cold have have possibly gone for more. There is another for sale on Discogs but the seller wants £1000 and won't budge

Is the issue, rarer and worth more than the white demo, or are they of a similar value?

Wanted UK Demos
They are all tough to find but after more than 50 years of collecting records I am not going to give up just because a few of them are difficult to find. I have around 400 UK demos of which quite a lot are NS, the rest are Motown/Stateside and 60's soul music. These are a few of the ones that I missed along the way and eventually I will find them, as my old mum used to say "Good things come to those that wait"

Ebay Northern Soul DE.TO 45 record Ronnie Mcnier SITTI
Anyone know if this is a boot, it looks far too cheap to be genuine. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/224969128456?_trksid=p11010.c100776.m4872&_trkparms=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fitm%2F224969128456%3F_trkparms%3Damclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20170316120926%26meid%3Dacc71bfc205947819316052130a96c21%26pid%3D100776%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D15%26b%3D1%26sd%3D294960377802%26itm%3D224969128456%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D11010%26algv%3DDefaultOrganic&_trksid=p11010.c100776.m4872&mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11010.m4872.l1120&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=6838271ef60d45fc810c8f6420ab707e&bu=43136961229&ut=RU&osub=-1~1&crd=20220508125101&segname=11010&sojTags=ch%3Dch%2Cbu%3Dbu%2Cut%3Dut%2Cosub%3Dosub%2Ccrd%3Dcrd%2Csegname%3Dsegname%2Cchnl%3Dmkcid

What do auction prices tell us about current values
Agree but that will lead eventually to lower prices and not just for records. I don't want to expand this into a debate about the impending economic doom that is likely to hit us very soon, so I will call it a day and leave this topic now.
-
What do auction prices tell us about current values
I agree, and just like when the 2008 recession hit there will be a massive price correction because people will no longer have the means to pay the inflated prices.
-
What do auction prices tell us about current values
I agree that the whole world of collecting is very similar and people at auctions do get carried away, but this topic is specific to soul records so I see no reason to mention stamps, coins, cars or anything else that people collect. As far as defining what is rare, now that is an interesting subject. How many copies define "rare", is it one, two, three, half a dozen, or 200 or even more? For me being rare is defined by demand and how many are really available to buy and what condition they are in. Most of the exceptionally rare records have been trashed by continual plays on crap decks at soul night. So when an unplayed or almost mint copy of a rare or even rare-ish record appears on the market it will attract big money even though there may be 100, or 200 others in circulation, especially if it is a very popular classic that does not appear for sale that often. Just look at some of the sites that regularly post set sales, Darren Brown for instance. I get his emails and often I am able to log in straight away but almost always find that I am too late for the best records. This happens regardless of the asking price but because a lot of the records just do not come up for sale that often, which makes them rare.

Stamps! I thought that this was a forum about soul music and record values, shall we now start discussing the crazy prices that some people are paying for houses?

What do auction prices tell us about current values
It is quite amazing how one simple comment has stirred up so much passion. The price of everything is based on supply and demand, if supply is scarce and demand is high then prices will be high. It has nothing to do with people over paying. If someone is prepared to pay "over the odds" for something it is their prerogative and is not to be the subject of vitriol of others. I have bought numerous "mint" records, some from the JM auction and occasionally have I thought to myself, have I paid a bit too much? So I ask you have I paid too much for the following? considering that each one is stone mint with perfect labels: Sam Dees £520, £480.00 Billy Prophet on Sue Demo, Ivories Dispenza, £800, The Crow £600, Four Sights £480, Christine Cooper, £400, James Fountain £520, I could go on and on because I am fortunate to have hundreds like this, not all worth a fortune but just as valuable to me, especially those early British demos that were junk shop finds from my early teens. It is not about how much you pay, it is about how much you are prepared to pay at any time. I may have been fortunate that most of my collection has risen in value but has only happened because there are more people with more money wanting to buy them. At the end of the day it is not about how much a record is worth, it is about collecting the music that you love in a way that suits you, you chose how to do it and how much to spend, just please do not buy the crappy over priced boot legs that fill the pages of Ebay because they do nobody any good, except the thieves who get them pressed,

I have done that and my insurance company are OK with kit but just to make sure I am in the process of photographing and recording all of them, but it is taking a long time. One day they might be for sale so all of this will save me a lot of time, but at the moment I am still adding to to it, because as you know these things never come to an end.😉
