Name You Last 5 Records
I actually sold at my first record show last Sunday and whilst I did OK I thought it was not really worth all the effort of sorting, boxing, loading, setting up etc etc. I had 11 boxes of pop/rock 45's and 4 boxes of albums. Having said all that, after setting up I was skimming the room and the guy setting up next to me had a box of maybe 300 45's. I went through and picked out a Basic, Black and Pearl 70's - Makin Of Love 45 and that was it. He then said those magic words - "I have a little bag of better things here" and I walked away with - The Yum Yums - Gonna Be A Big Thing - ABC promo Curtis Lee - Is She In Your Town - Mira promo Apparently he picked up a small collection of promo 45's and these were amongst them!! I am waiting for a phone call to find out what else he has. he took a handful of Rock albums and $100C cash. There are Northern/Rare Soul 45's that you sort of think you will never own and the Yum Yum's would be one of them and to have it just drop in your lap like this is just unbelievable. Made my day and probably my month, even year - I even took the missus out for a pint.

Record Stores In Brooklyn Ny
Just a quick follow up: Popped into the Record Show at the Holiday Inn for an hour. It was impossible to convince the wife I did not know it was on. Met Barry and if the ATM had been working in the hotel I would have dropped $300. I did get MM and the Peanuts - The Phillie and a Dee Edwards on D Town. He had 3 boxes packed with Northern goodies and, I thought, reasonably priced. I never actually went looking for shops but did manage to pass Village Records in Greenwich Village - dont bother Bleeker St Records - 4 or 5 rows of Soul/R&B 45's in the basement but not really anything of any note. Prices ranged from 4.99 upwards with anything of any Northern interest being $11 and up. I did buy the Darrell Banks Daptone 45 so as to save on shipping to Canada. Whilst the wife was shopping in Loehmans I had a walk up Broadway and scanned the book-sellers that set up on the path and picked up a Chico Hamilton album on Stax for $2. Also flew in and out of Buffalo and JFK and never got patted down once

Record Stores In Brooklyn Ny
Well what do you know? I am in New York this weekend taking advantage of free hotel and air miles. How far is the show from Times Square? It would be nice to try and get there.

Two Deon Jackson Carla Demo's Wanted
Yep, I have seen that Deon Jackson 4 or 5 times but never an issue.

Chess Records
I dont believe the Canadian Argo, Etta James is a demo, it is an issue. See my previous post re. Deon Jackson on Canadian Carla. I also had this discussion with Dave Moore re. the Canadian Curtom releases which were also on white label up until a certain point I have not yet figured out.

Good Old Record Shops
I was in there in October on a visit from Canada and came out with some cracking UK issue oldies for 2 quid each!!!. Willie Mitchell, Sugar Pie DeSanto, Soul Sisters on Sue, they were in a box behind the counter. I did leave a Blow Out The Sun UK RCA demo in the boxes behing the curtains if you are quick.

Best City In Usa For Looking For Soul Records?
If you do decide to come to Toronto let me know and I will give you address for Henry's place out in Scarborough and a couple of other shops in and around the city. Cosmos West on Queen Street is not bad as well. 1000's of 45's in the basement but you have to leave them whilst he "prices" them?

Best City In Usa For Looking For Soul Records?
Stay out of Canada, especially South West Ontario, no vinyl here, nothing. Record Shows and shops are rubbish, you would just be wasting your time. The one time I went to Cleveland for a long weekend I did OK but anywhere up that way will be f**king cold so wrap up warm. You also get a trip round the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Detroit, Chicago and Philly would also fall under the - f**cking cold at that time of year - category

Book On The 1980S Scene
Maybe not a book but definately scope for a one off fanzine type production? Something in the There's That Beat vein but more pages. Pictures, reviews, charts, memorablila etc etc We could then maybe have venue specific one's - Yate, Morecambe, Stafford etc etc? Would save quite a bit on production costs I would have thought and also a lot cheaper on shipping for non-UK buyers. Just thinking out loud. Kevin in Canada

Canadian Issues
Just posted in another topic that I have never found a Curtis - Move On Up on Canadian and it got me thinking. I have found most of the Northern Motown things but cannot for the life of me find a Gladys Knight - Walk In My Shoes on canadian either? Has anybody seen a copy? I was trawling through a box of Motown stuff in Stardust Records in Hamilton last weekend and there were multiple copies of most of her other Motown things.

Did You Go To Jazz Funk Nights ?
Used to go to the Roundabout in Gloucester on a Monday night. Used to have special guest DJ's. I used to have a great tape that one of the dancers did for me and I still have the Jeff Lorber Fusion - Watersign album as a result. Stand out for me were the dancers. One from Gloucester - Russell Adamson - was pretty bloody good.
