Cleveland Blues
Hodad's had 5 or 6 boxes of Soul 45's but they were a mixed bunch and I got a couple of nice Barbara Lynn Atlantic promo's from there and a couple of other things. They didnt have a lot but as I was in the area. My Mind's Eye had lots of boxes but condition was a bit iffy. There was also about 10 boxes of unsleeved Soul 45's but I got a bit bored going though them as most of it was battered. Having said that I did get a nice Bobby Hutton - Come See Whats Left Of Me - Phillips from this store amongst some other nice Oldies. As we were travelling with non-vinyl types this was about all I could swing but I think there were a couple more stores that the guy in Minds Eye recommended but they escape me now.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a must if you have any interets in music. If you are looking for 45's you could try these 2 stores. I was there last year and picked up a nice handful of cheapies. Both these stores are a couple of minutes apart on the same street and are about 10 mins drive from Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame: My Mind's Eye - 13723 Madison Avenue, Lakewood Hodad's - 13413 Madison Avenue, Lakewood I also went to Record Den, 7661 Mentor Avenue, Mentor but this is a bit of a drive out of the city. Lots of 45's but a real mixed bag.

Yesterday I drove 45 mins to view a collection of approx 5,000 45's which the guy wanted $400 for. Unfortunately, or as expected, they turned out to be a pile of junk, lots of Country, 70's pop etc, and after sifting through I came home with: The Impressions - Cant Satisfy - ABC The Larks - The Jerk - Reo Verdelle Smith - A Piece Of The Sky - Capitol and nestling all on its own, no sleeve, was: Little Charles - Its A Heartache - Canadian Decca for $1!! I spent a grand total of $10.

How Much
These 2 tracks were also "booted" on a Kool Kat 12" along with some un-released? Detroit stuff, this might be a bit easier to find?

Reo Records Canada
FYI - a large amount of Dave Whatmough's collection was, and still is, in Stardust Records in Hamilton. All that is left now is a couple of 1000 country 45's, I have been through it a couple of times and picked up a few things that were mis-filed.

Went to Ann Arbor for their Soul Nite Friday and spent the Saturday mooching about Ann Arbor, lovely little town and 3 Record Shops in the town centre as well, came away with the following from Encore for $23: Bobby Taylor - Just A Little Bit Closer - Mowest Johnnie Mae Matthews - The Headshrinker - Sue The Holidays - Love You Forever - Golden World Sister Sledge - Go Thru No Changes - Atco The Four Exceptions - You Got The Power - Parkway promo and on the way out of town from the Salvation Army I picked up Atlantic Starr - Circles and a handle of Mint Rock and Roll picture Sleeves for 25c each. The other stores were Wazoo and Underground but no 45's in either of them. Encore has about a dozen boxes of R&B 45's but this includes all types and era's but as you can see above it was worth the 30 - 40 mins to go through them.

Sorry Records Off Ebay
I suppose the simple answer is dont buy off ebay. I very rarely do nowadays for the very reason you have posted. Too many times I have ended up with a terrible sounding record graded as Mint, in fact I sorted out a box of them the other day and dumped them. I am now of the opinion that there are enough forums like this and Fryer, Soul Talk, Soul Strut, Hitsville etc selling 45's. OK, you are paying the going rate but to be honest real ebay bargains are few and far between now anyway.

The Splendors - Please Dont Go - Karate - 3 copies!!! - offers invited for 2 of them Maurice Jackson - Lucky Fellow - Lakeside The O'Jays - The Choice - Bell The Symphonics - No More - Brunswick Randolph Walker - Shindy Butterfly - Black Prince promo The Spaniels - Jealous Heart - Calla The Determinations - Love, Respect and Understanding - Dolphin - offers invited as I have 1 already If you are ever in Toronto I suggest you go to Cosmos on Queen St West and ask to go into the basement, most of these came from there although the owner will take a day or two to price them up. You should also make the effort to go to Ric's Collectibles although it is on the East side and a bit of a trek to get to but he regularly gets decent stuff in and the rest of this haul came from there.

Freddie Scott - Mr Heartache - Columbia
Mine looks the same as the 1 posetd - except it doesnt have the writing either side of the 45rpm, logo under the Columbia at the top? Can anybody add anything to this? I wonder if it might have been done at the same time as the Dean Barlow, Paul whatshisname on Jacklyn? They originated in Canada as well I believe?

Freddie Scott - Mr Heartache - Columbia
Can anybody tell me if this has been booted as a White Label promo? Just picked one up from Record Show and it is mint. No reference in John's Bootleg Guide.

News: The Greatest Record Finds Of All Time 2008
Talking of record finds at tips. When I first got to Canada I had no job so got employment through an agency an ended up doing service for a company that sold electric beds. Once a week I had to go to the local dump to get rid of old motors, bits and pieces, packaging. On the third or fourth trip, as I was throwing stuff I noticed a couple of albums sticking out. I asked the old guy if I could have them and he said sure but he wasnt allowed to give them to me. I jumped down and picked up a couple of Barbara Streisand albums!!! I asked him if he could put them aside for me and he said sure, so next week there was a box of 30 odd albums, then next week the same, then again and this lasted for probably 12 months and in this time I must have got 1000's of albums but never many 45's and what there were was Pop, Rock etc? Got some great Blues, Psych, Garage, Reggae, Rock, Jazz albums, plus tons of Beatles, Elvis, Hendrix etc which I used to trade at record shows and also sold out of my basement through the local free papers. Being out on the road all over the Toronto area I also got to know the shops, Goodwill's and Flea Markets, great, lasted for 18 months before I moved on. By the way, I bet Martin Koppell, Richard Pack and Kevin Cox could add some good Canadian stories?
