  1. Jerry Was the Thursday night thing called "Stompers" and didnt it used to be in the car park at the back of the Plough. Dont forget Sundays at Brahms and Lizst and also at that golf club in Charlton Kings that I cant remember the name of.
  2. It happens in Canada as well. In May I lost about $450US in cash and Bidpay payments. One of the buyers contacted Bidpay and they confirmed his payment had been cashed but couldnt confirm where. I got absolutely no joy from Canada Post ( you think the UK post is bad, you should try dealing with these clowns ). I now have a Paypal account and the disclaimer that people send cash, money orders or Bidpay at there own risk.
  3. OOPs Number should be 1842
  4. Can anybody tell me what this 45 is like? Dynamics - Just Gotta Know - Dynamic 8412 - Pink Label. Is it Northern, Deep, crap etc? Thanks
  5. Jamie Name is Kevin New and I grew up in Bishops Cleeve just outside Cheltenham and used to travel to Wigan, Yate etc with Pete French. Last few years in UK were spent in Winchcombe, a little further outside Cheltenham before coming to Canada in 1999. Kevin
  6. Brett The Northern do's were done by Kev Cox, Alun Bell, Mick and another guy. I cant remember his name but I did bump into him at the Funk Bros show in Toronto earlier this year. They died a bit of a death a couple of years ago and Kev tried to get them going with a couple of young mods but like the one you went to they kept moving venues etc. Unfortunately at the last one we went to the DJ was spinning a Supremes tune and my missus went and asked him to play some northern and he said he was. My missus is not known for her tolerance, she likes her oldies and she said she didnt drive up to town, pay a fortune to park to listen to the F#@cking Supremes, and funnily enough that was the last one we went to!!! Kops Collectibles is OK, he used to have all the Northern in a seperate section but now it is lumped in with a the other soul stuff and covers the whole of the back wall and is a real bastard to pile through Jaime I do OK, I never thought I would be finding as much Northern as I am. I sold pretty much my whole collection before I came to Canada 5 years ago but am now building a decent one again. The stuff I sell on ebay is mostly cheap and cheerful oldies, motown etc to fund trips to the record shows. There are lots of record shows in the area, they run all through the summer, and a couple of guys hold soul stuff for me and that turns up a few things - my prime example would be Paris Blues on Canadian Polydor !!!!!!
  7. I live about 30 mins outside of Toronto and it amazes me that nobody here seems to have any clue about the price of 45's and I would say they have never heard of the Manship catalogues. However I have noticed that a couple of sellers are now charging $5 instead of the $2 -$3 they were charging me a couple of years ago but I just put that down to the fact that I buy a lot of 45's and they feel they can "overcharge" me. There is one guy who is a bit savvy but he still only charged me $100C for a Jan Jones - less than 50 quid. Is this a bargain? The down side of this is that when I talk to dealers and sellers at record fairs about soul 45's they all come out with the classic line - I sold them all to Martin Koppell. So I suppose I am saying that the bargains are still out there - keep looking.
  8. One has just been listed on ebay and has a bid of $99.99 at the moment. What would be a realistic value, it is on Manships web site for 75 quid. I do have a copy which I would consider letting go if the offer was right, email at knew@branttel.com
  9. I have to say I was one of the ones who got Arthur Freeman for $20. There was quite an interesting exchange of emails once he found out what they were really worth but fair play to him he did send it in the end.
  10. I have an issue which looks great in a Boom sleeve. Can I load digital photo or do I need to scan?
  11. Just got ( yesterday at the Toronto record show ) mint copy of Robert John - Raindrops - A&M for $1 canadian, also Freddie Houston - Chills and Fever - Regency and 2 45's on the Holiday Inn label from the same dealer for $1 each. Can anyone give any info on the Holiday Inn label, both 45's are decent soul but not Northern. Total purchases were 68 45's at an average of $2.50 canadian each!!! Acouple bought blind were filed under B for Bin but lots of nice stuff.
  12. Mary Saxton album is actually on Birchmount label - picked one up for 50c Canadian last year. The Losing Control track was released on a 45 on the Pace label which I believe is from British Columbia. Manship sold 1 not long ago and I seem to remember Kev Cox saying he had a copy. newer04
  13. For me it was Little Piece Of Leather - Donnie Elbert. There was a family at the end of the street called the Blakes who were skins. I used to hang out with one of them and they had all the Ska, Motown etc. Up until then I only had pop and one of the Motown collections. Some months later and I was buying my first Northern tune, Van Dykes - Save My Love For A Rainy Day on a pressing from The Watson Hall All-dayer in Tewkesbury. Happy days
  14. My brother-in-law has the Seventy Seven promo on ebay at the moment Check soul_boy_records
  15. I picked up this 45 at the weekend. Any idea of a price? It is not a bad bit of Northern but I would say they were white. Manship has it in his database but with no price - any help?
  16. These are all over ebay - buy it now, all from the same guy I think.
  17. Went to see Millie Jackson about 1980/81 and we shouted out for her to sing this and My Man A Sweet Man and boy did she get pissed off!!!! She into her heavy rapping, long monologues and sex stuff at the time and didnt appreciate us requesting " that crap "
  18. For Nick Rennie's site just put northern soul music into Google. motorcitymusic sells the Nelson Sanders and Doni Burdick Soul King 45's on ebay now and again - they may sell you one.
  19. Gloucester Disco Centre used to do the same thing - the metal bar through the 45's - in there 45 boxes. Used to be a pain in the arse asking to look at a 45, waiting for them to unlock it, to check condition etc. I also remember watching a dealer in the record bar at Wigan giving a thief a right pasting after he caught him trying to nick a record.
  20. Thanks Rotherham I have titles and numbers but have a gap from 120 to 128 where I have never seen white label promos. Can any one confirm they exist? newer04
  21. I have The Metros - Sweetest One - Canadian RCA with a promo sleeve plus about 300 Canadian issue Tamla Motown, starting with Blue Tamla labels then the traditional Yellow label and onto the white label with Tamla Motown on. I used to have a Brazilian copy of Girl Watcher ( I think I sold it to Frenchie many years ago) Also have Rocky Roberts - Italian Pic. Sleeve newer04
  22. Having sold up 5 years ago and emigrated to Canada I had to have a hobby so decided I would collect Ric Tic, Golden World and Wingate white labels. That was the plan but I didnt realise I would be finding so much quality vinyl. Onto my question: I have 27 of the 45 Ric Tic releases on white label promo but I seem to have a gap between 120 and 128. Can any body confirm if these were released on white label. I once had 125 - Willie G on promo but this was the blue label with promo on it in black. Thanks newer04
  23. I like this one. Greetings from Canada. I have just found this forum so sorry if I am dragging up old discussions. In the last couple of years I have found the following: Moses Smith - Cotillion promo - $2 ( All prices Canadian $ ) Tony Middleton - Paris Blues Can. Polydor 75c Jerry Naylor - City Lights - Sparton promo - $3 Ruby Winters - Better - Can Diamond - $3 2 copies of Mickie Champion off the same guy for $2 each Linda Lloyd - Can. Columbia $2.50 Johnny Nash - What Kind Of Love - Can. Groove $3 Sammy Gaha - Right On - 50c!!!!!!! The list goes on, some incredible records for next to nothing. The record fairs here also turn up great stuff that would sell for 25 to 50 quid over there and nothing costs more than $5!!! I never thought I would be rebuilding a collection when I emigrated but the wife is getting pissed off all over again at the vinyl that keeps arriving. newer04 I also got the 1st Arthur Freeman - You Got Me Uptight on ebay. The guy had it at buy it now for $30US. He has 1 on now for buy it now $650.
  24. I have a copy of the album. It is on the Birchmount label and is Canadian and has Losing Control and Take My Heart on it. I remember Kev Cox telling me he had a copy of the 45 a few years ago in Toronto. Just stumbled on this forum and have spent the last hour reading a few, great stuff. newer04
