  1. Shattered Glass - Ellie Warren, You must live in the Bolton / Farnworth area, Used to play it at Chuffers in Farnworth went down a storm, But 5 miles away in Bury no one had ever heard it!!
  2. Just put the Chad Jackson remix of "The Snake" in the refosoul bit but can't suss out how to put it on here,
  3. The Bo Kirkland & Ruth Davis track was a biggie at the Ritz with the Mecca crew,So I would presume it was also big at The Highland Room circa 77, Harold Melvin "Don't leave me this way" Dionne Warwick - "Walk on by" Barbara Pennington "Fan the flame"
  4. I used to Dj with Kenny in the mid 80's, Just found this -- https://www.manchesterbeat.com/djs/kenny%20edmund/kennyedmund.php Wondering if any one knows him on here
  5. It was mentioned in Blues & Soul and possibly Black Echoes at the time, I remember reading it, The term Disco a shortened form of Discotheque was used a the time to describe a place used for dancing to recordings of music,Played by Dj's and not performed by live artistes The term now relates I believe to be anything played at Wigan Casino,But only by people who never went to "The Best Disco In The World " Grant
  6. Double bubble Steve it's mine on the 26th, Want to share a cake ??
  7. The last 3 or 4 yrs would be 77 - 81 So go on pick a few years at random, How old where you and at what year did you first go and then stop going to the "Casino",
  8. Same theme different outlook, Steve would it be ok for me to take my daughter Rachel age 11 to St .Bernadettes, Loved it when I was there. And would love to do it again, Main problem is, I love spending my time with -- wife -- daughter Is it ok at St Bernies, to take kids Thanks Grant
  9. Heard a story that Russ had a copy of Yvonne Baker "Didn't Say A Word" on cameo parkway( i Think ), And that Ian Levine didn't believe it so he went to the Casino after the Mecca had closed, And he stood by the stage all night waiting for it to be played,Only to jump up on stage to see the label had been covered by a beer mat, I think that without a doubt they hated each others guts Grant
  10. , Drugs or not Mr Webb you would still have danced,And don't try and say you would not have, Pisses me off this "Anti Winstanley" thing, You I and 70% of the people on here never slagged him when we went to Wigan,And the other 30% would have slagged off Colin Curtis or Ian Levine,And you know that's the truth,Because we all did it !!!!!!!!!!,
  11. Not wanting to cause argument at all, Why no mentions of Russ Winstanley, Played many a fine tune at the Casino,O k he played some shite ones also,But so did many others But back in the day!!! , If you went to the Casino in the mid / late 70's ,Russ played a big part in your life, Never mind all the sell out bollo**s, If you went to the Casino during that time 50% of the records we danced to where played by Russ Winstanley, Did he discover them all?,Not a chance, Did you give a Shite.?Not a chance, Did you dance??? YES WE DID Music is in the ear of the beholder Grant
  12. Always loved instrumentals, Me and an old mate started a mobile disco in 76,It was called "Astral Trip" Remember driving the van onto Birch services on the M62 one Sunday morning and a load of lads and girls who must have been on the way home from the Casino started cheering when they saw the Astral Trip name in the window.
  13. Really good thread this, Many of the points raised I really agree with, I'm 51 this year,So not as well versed on this subject as many others on Soul Source, I believe that without the Motown input in the 60's and 70's,The Northern scene as we know it would not be, Yes there are many other labels that produced some fantastic tunes and artists And I'm not educated enough to start naming them,Where not these artists / Labels not influenced by the Motown sound,Either commercially or musically, It was the Motown sound that gripped me,And led me into Northern Soul
  14. Oi know me Oirish to be sure,

  16. It will be an age old argument Went to the Mecca a few times as mentioned before it was a bit to "New York" for me, Started at Wigan in 75 LOVED IT, Many people who went before or after to the Casino will have their own views on it, The mod / ska bit etc I didn't witness so I can't comment Grant
  17. Would that be "Noine toimes outer ten" That you be on aboirt, Been practising my oirish
  18. I saw this play at the Contact theatre in Manchester a few years ago and Russ was Dj in the downstairs bar area,He attended the show and then did another spot later on after the play had finished, I would presume he didn't turn up uninvited,With a box of records hoping to get a spot
  19. And at number one It's Dana Valery, "You don't know that you're eating old pies" YES YES the first Dana Valery post about old pies I will rest in peace
  20. While you are all eating your pies I will play all the stuff you wanted to hear instead of boring your tits off with all this shite

The Gang Bang "Who said honky's aint got soul" That's a mad one for me Julian Covay " A little bit hurts" love it but heart attack material Otis Blackwell "It's all over me" danced my legs off to this, sounds a bit mad now though,But still worth a jig
