  1. Wish I could listen to this Radio Show on saturday but a) I'm off for holiday and B) BBC won't let you listen to their radio show when you're living outside UK. Are there any plans to upload the show somewhere as a podcast?
  2. A bit of generalisation, don't you think? Maybe every DJ in Hamburg or Berlin has a copy but I don't know of any DJ/collector in Munich having a copy. But on the other hand the Munich lot is always way behind the times within the german scene. I mean we still play lots of R&B
  3. LAST CHANCE BEFORE THEY GO ON EBAY: 100 GBP FOR THE LOT! ANYONE?
  4. Which mix did they put on the 12"? The original 7" mix?
  5. Isn't the Eddie Holman 12" the same mix as on the album?
  6. Spot on! A 12" of Charles Johnson featuring the full take unedited take of the 7" would be my personal holy grail. Bit offtopic: I understand the Alston/TK tapes are all accessable, has any record company shark ever tried to find out if they are tapes of the recording session of Charles Johnson?
  7. Have you actually seen a copy or just heard of one? Thing is, I was told many many years ago by a german dealer that one of Anka's Northern tracks came out in Germany but he didn't tell me which one. Never seen an actual copy of either "When we get there" or "Cant help loving" so I assumed this information was not true.
  8. Would love to hear those! RefoSoul anyone? Who were the artists? Once saw Herbie Goins live at the Cattolica mod rally. He was living in Rome at the time

Leaving the Low rider scene aside (as I know FA about that), many Chicago Soul classics like "mama didn't lie" or many Major Lance tracks were or still are popular on the Northern, Popcorn and Beach scenes. Willie Tee "one way street" another example.
  10. I always thought Butch bought the very first "known" Ebay copy (i.e. first copy that didn't slip through the net and picked up for next to nothing by some clever record hound) that went for 3-4K? But very likely I am wrong and Butch hasn't got any reason not to tell the truth so I think you're right.
  11. Then he must have sold it

  25. The italian version of Jimmy Radcliffe came out in Italy on a jukebox 7", there's a scan of it posted somewhere on Soul Source. Motown released foreign versions of their bigger hits all over the world. I recall seeing spanish, french, italian and german versions done by Four Tops, Supremes, Temps, etc. The rarest and by far most collectable german releases are Temps "Mein girl" (my girl) (worth about 250 quid) and Marvin Gaye "Wie schoen das ist" (How sweet it is) (about 75 quid). The flipside to Marvin Gaye "Sympatica" is a german only release, written and produced by a german composer. But on the Northern Soul side of things the only non-english track I recall is the Tielmann Brothers "Viel zu spaet" which is a german cover of Bobby Goldsboro "Too late". Certainly not Soul by any means but at least of some sort of relevance to Northern.
