  1. Just picked these up from the "Carmen" record company (Sy Hightower/Carmelita) headquarters today.... Hopefully some photos of Sy can be found soon as well!! They also have a rehearsal tape for the recording of "I know your leaving me", the song's work in progress; Amazing!! Enjoy....
  2. I agree, but a football coaching licence doesnt count.... Andy Cobb STILL wants his trades, BTW.....
  3. --> QUOTE(C.B @ Oct 20 2006, 02:05 AM) link Thanks for the info! Do you have a picture of Carmelita? If so, I would love to see it. Best, Christian They gave me a recent photo, when I locate it, I'll post it! Very nice folks; They are excited by the attention their music is finally getting... Jerry has been working very hard to locate Sy Hightower; He hasn't had much luck... Im off to bed, its 2am here... Hopefully you'll see their photo later today. ATB, Mike
  4. --> QUOTE(C.B @ Oct 20 2006, 12:01 AM) link Just noticed a copy of Carmelita "Isn't it lonely" (CARMEN) on eBay with YELLOW label as opposed to the multi-coloured one. It says in the description that it's on vinyl unlike the other one, but that's not true. They're both on vinyl. So, what's the story? Was it pressed twice? Item number: 230039968519 Yes it was. The yellow is the very first, and is VERY rare (100 pressed); Most were sent (a dozen or two?) to Florida in 1974 (Carmelita performed on local TV there) because she (and husband/producer Jerry Pittman) knew George Mc Crae. He was trying to help promote it. This is where this seller (ebay longtallsimon) found it. Carmelita is a visual artist; Weeks later, she created the nice pink label artwork (check Manships rarest of the rare), and pressed the balance of copies with that instead (300 copies). There are 4 confirmed yellow labels that are known to have survived; I bought 2 from Carmelita and Jerry for a LOT of money (she still owns her last one), and now this ebay copy has surfaced.. The last 2 pink labels sold got $2300 and $1900; There are a little over a dozen of those that have been found, now in my possession. Yellow label value? Put it this way, I will NOT sell my spare for a long time; It has nowhere to go but to a very high demand as time goes on...
  5. Regarding Carmelita; You have a serious rarity. There are now 4 confirmired yellow label copies (I own 2 VG+, and M-), Carmelita owns one, and yours. Where did you find it? So far the only copies at all (both variations) have come from Los Angeles. BTW, the lavender label issue of Carmelita issue is VINYL as well; Sy Hightower is styrene. This should go pretty big.... Congratulations.....

I tried to work something out for the balance of his copies (The seller from Bakersfield) and the bottom line is he is not going to sell em' cheaper, at least that was conveyed to me. Because of that it seems its still a solid $400 record. I still have my other spare, by the way; Turned down $350 when the last ad went up! Anyone who still needs one can still have it for $400 if interested.(See link above to contact me please) Otherwise, even if he has more, I doubt he's gonna drop his price!!! I know, I once tried to purchase a rare Beatles item from him that was high, and 8 years later, he still has it and WONT drop his price!!!!
  7. Captain Vague is a guy named Doug... Heres his reply; Hi Mike, my real name is Doug, I moved to Los Angeles in 1981, I've never been to a soul music forum, I collect a lot of soul but specialize in rock and blues, I have used CaptainVague as a moniker for over 10 years, a name I came up with for a blues band I was in in the late 70's while at the University of Minnesota that the band never used. I Collect LP's not 45's. I am a music fan 1st and don't collect based on the value of the recording. I'd love to have some Northern Soul but a compilation CD would do, as if you read my posts on this subject I don't have a narrow mind to the music per se, I just have a narrow wallet. I don't venture into collecting obscure genres or artists unless it's something I dug growing up or got turned on to. Flipping through my collection of about 2000 LP's you will see established artists that would be found in the Jazz/Rock/Blues/Soul hall of fames because that's what I like and much of it is readily available and reasonbly priced. If I say something was a cutout or a throwaway demo it's becasue that's what it I believe was. If somebody else believes it to be the lost holy grail and is willing to shell out $$ then by all means do so. Sometimes I feel like responses I get to some of these posts remined me of arguments I get in with my younger brother over heavy metal, where he acuses me of believing that the guitar died with Hendrix. Sorry about your greif in the other forum but I ain't you, and you ain't me (sounds like a song title). There you go, folks....
  8. Sorry if I appeared upset; I think its a certain seller out at Pasadena swap who ALWAYS comments on my auction results every month; He really doesnt get the SOUL thing, and cant understand why others get more $$ than him (player hating?) for this music. Maybe some love for it might help him someday... BTW, The guys down at the "blue oyster" bar call me "Captain Vague" when I wear that sexy hat... !!!
  9. Maybe you can reach the "t**t" after he comes forward and id's himself properly! I just signed into this website for the first time, hopefully this classic rocker will come forward.. Here's what I just sent him.. I've been getting a little greif on a well known Soul music website, cause some folks think you are me and that your post is narrow minded! 1. I deal records and collect a few types of music, mostly soul. 2. I live in Los Angeles, have my whole 37 years (like you?) 3. Enjoy James Brown as well. BUT.... I have been using this name (Mike Vague) for well over 20+ years as a DJ, etc., and was not aware you were using this name until I got insulted and questioned by my fellow soul music fans! Step up and identify your real name, so mine will not be confused with your opinions. Thank you.
  10. Oh SH*T! Someone has hijacked my name! I never even knew about this website (recordcollectorsguild) till now!!!!!! Not me who posted that bullsh*t. ..... Sad too the idiot is from Los angeles as well. Easy to assume, folks, but it isn't Mike Vague. Sorry. It will be interesting to see who it is eventually.. I think I'll start a user name called Mr. Manship; That wont confuse anyone.... Fekkin idiot, this "Mr.Vague", dont confuse me with him! By the way, Mike (recordswanted), this guy never made reference to being a DJ (I've been doing it 20+ years, besides collecting and flipping records..) besides collecting stale Dylan records. Careful, son....
  11. All essential homework was done previous to listing; the "circle" marking is there, and the disc is not transparent. It is 1000% real and original 60's press. It is guarenteed. Good questions, maybe it might have gotten more if these facts were cleared up...
  12. Don't forget 2 more rounds ending Thurs & Fri. Thanks for your continued interests!
  13. 1st round ending very soon! Still many bargains....

    UNDERRATED TUNE....
  15. Tried finding her... Located a rehabed Christian woman who said shes been aproached before about this record, had nothing to do with it, and the recorded Ester Grant has been dead a few years.. How shes knows, I don't know....
  16. I had Karmello Brooks (cracked, hanging around my home), Andy Cobb offers me $30, and I accept.. He later shifts it to Ady Potts for hundreds, and from what I've heard, it well over a thousand to another person later!! Doh!~ After witnessing all this, I broke (no pun intended) my "no crack records in my collection" rule, and later paid over a thousand for a certain WILSTONE 45 by a female artist. I think my brain is cracked...
  17. Find a copy of Johnnie Taylor's "Disco lady", and listen to the flip... "Your the best in the world"..$3 well spent...
  18. Is the Fredrick Hymes III yellow label legit? I hope so ,cause I just bought "one of the last four"......
  19. He's playing Hollywood race track in Inglewood, California sometime this November... Hopefully he'll do Soul and Funk, not just blues Anyone on here seen him before, or have some favorites by him?
  20. Please give me another call tomorrow, Tom; I didn't log your phone number yesterday Thanks, Mike
