  1. Well the dates have been announced for this ' venture ' were a broad concensus of knowledgeable soul folk interviewed with regards the selection of tunes, proposed for this ' tour ' or have bbc media suddenly become experts on a subject, very few of them understand?, 50 odd years of ' not getting it ' and tryng to tell us things about the music, venues, artists etc that we already knew or have long forgotten about. We dont do a ' Northern Soul ' dance.....we dance to Northern Soul, if we want to determine any name to refer to dance moves, its freestyle, always has been, everyone dances differently...its like dna, no two dancers are the same, everybody inteprets what they feel when they hear the lyrics, hear the music, feel the beat. Anyway, i presume these events will be ' standing only' as theyre going to want the audiences to join in and enjoy the music the way only they know best...and they will be filmed too? I suppose and orchestra has to be considered better than any tribute band or artist, belting out these classics, they say they ' love '...i prefer the originals...but, an orchestra should at least make a qualified attempt at replicating ' instrumentals ' At least go for something different though, rather than the tried, tested and thoroughly worn out.
  2. Week today then, second function of 2024, January kicked things off withStu n Rob from St George's..into a leap year Feb now and our first Lady guest for this Month, Ros, is looking forward to meeting all so, lets see the Shropshire crowd come out and give full support, knowing our regulars are as good as their word, plus always welcoming new faces/visitors from far n wide. Anyone fancy a stopover, good prices currently available via Premier Inn, Holiday Inn and both Travelodge's, plus lots of other quality establishments in town....Booking.com is easiest way to do it.
  3. A pretty astute observation i reckon, Ted, given that Mark has probably had more aces up his sleeve than anyone else for as long as can be remembered, and when he has pulled one or two out, theyve been instantly breathtaking.....witnessed a few at Orwell reunion a couple of years ago, 60's as well....me n Baz jaw dropping like, wtf was that!!😲 but, Mighty Lovers is just a mind blowing tune for sureπŸ‘
  4. 80's or 90's Mal?
  5. Mal, the Clara Hardy...is that " youre after my guy "....havent had chance to watch the footage yet so, i presume you mean that tune?
  6. Decca acetate. Referred to the Lea Manor ' last All nighter ' playlist i compiled...Butch featured it there.
  7. Yes, i think its c/up title is " They Are Saying "...Mark has been playing it for a good many years now, as with Jean Carter as well.....big 100 club tunes even when i went there, early 2000. Mal...it is Jean Carter.
  8. What a great insight, enjoyed reading this very much, a continuous learning curve is this scene of ours, especially about the artists whose names adorn the music ( and records ) we love.
  9. Too right Karl, only name anyone would think ofπŸ‘
  10. Wow!, that long, i probably didnt realize at the time i bought it, it was that old....itssort of ironic in away...it probably came out amidst the mad rush of cds....companies jumping on a potential sales pitch goldmine with popularity of Northern amongst a wider audience, particularly all the rare tracks impossible to find, or buy on vinyl...available for anybody. 73/74 was a hugh vinyl adrenalin rush, where new tunes were coming at you, every week, it was hard to keep pace, that happened for a good few years, as it did with the cd market.....now both are far more sedate.
  11. This looks like a re-hash of the cd Decca issued maybe 15 years ago/more/less? Sonny Childe is great, obviously not a stormer, whereas Tony Newman i heard played early doors at the Casino....but it was probably played before then anyway.
  12. A local lady indeed, and a regular supporter of this function, Rose has an impressive collection of tunes, here's the opportunity to get to hear, and dance to what she has to offer!...another great sermon promised at Shrewsbury's best kept secret venue...THE CHURCHπŸ˜‰πŸ‘πŸŽ΅πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸŽΆβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ

Second visit to this much better, more tasteful and homely venue. Dimension wise, its perfect!, adequate seating, reasonably large floor, and a quality one if just in need of a polish?, low slung ceiling making for great accoustics....Baz Maleedy's set up is 1st class anyway. Exceedingly good to see so many 'usual suspects' from both Lowton and indeed, Prestwich eras, lots of smiley faces, embraces, handshakes and invigorated dancing to a plethora of tunes you just wouldn't expect to hear at your bog standard soul night, not astonishingly rare but sounds that have been around long enough to remain fresh and untainted by bootlegging or legit releasing....played by discerning djs with an ear for quality music. Top night!βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈπŸ˜‰πŸ‘ well done all the Culcheth team, plus guests and folks who turned up from far and wide...renewed acquaintances achieved and a satisfactory evening realized.....result!! Big UP for the forthcoming ' Grumpy ' here....but deffo NO long faces!😁
  13. The phrase is in danger of becoming an expletive!!🀣🀣

  15. What?...the venue with " legendary djs "?πŸ˜‰
  16. Loaded a few pics instead of tunes....a bit late in the day now to suggest to folk if you have any of Lowton, post them up HERE.....but, it wouldve been nice if YOU ALL had taken rhe intitiative, afterall...THEY'RE memories too, like the music....i bet theres folk who have pics from when it first started ( 97 or 96 i think ) those halcyon days when you queued round the block and folk had to park on the field because the car park was already full!
  17. The first of 4 quarterly events at Anstice Hall in Madeley, features guest dj, KEV SMITH ( pictured ) alongside ROB MUNT, STEW PITT and RUSS REEVES. A superb night of none stop floorfillers, GUARANTEED!
