  1. Just a reminder to the folk who know...and for any curious and interested newcomers, looking for somewhere different!. Goggle maps shows exactly where the place is.
  2. Yer Man, Brian Chidley, a popular face all over the midlands and further afield, top tunes from this guest dj no doubt!
  3. Always class this as Shrewsbury's best kept secret, even after 13 years!😁 Soul couldnt be more sanctified...than in a church!!. Great little room, low slung ceiling ( not too low though! ) hence, great accoustics and makes for a good atmosphere. Cheap bar, plenty of parking ( no gravestones to knock over! ) and a top crowd, always up for the dance, and a good conversation too...and theyre not all local either, plenty of travellers from Shropshire, Cheshire, N Wales and the Midlands. Brilliant music from Mark & Russ and always a cracking special guest dj to suppliment the night. Venue 5 mins from town centre, and close to all major A roads. If youve not been before, its deffo a unique experience, but aside from that the quality of tuneage is top notch! A Sermon Full O Soul, as we say!😉👍🎵💃🕺🎶⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👏👏
  4. Money sent!👍
  5. Hi Dave, Not sure if i sent message correctly. Is the earnestine anderson tune still available?
  6. Several for sale in uk, average price £30..on discogs.
  7. Last call, to all out there still pondering what to do....this is the only advertised function in Shropshire this weekend ( on here anyway ), and Shrewbury itself is a fabulous tourist attraction!...Darwin's birthplace, a town with an abbey and a castle, high and low towns, fabulous hotels, pubs, bars, restaurants, cafe's, a fantastic indoor market, pleasure boat cruises on the river Severn....lots of great independant shops too as well as the Pride Hill and Darwin shopping centres. Northern Soul is no stranger to the town either as past venues have included the Lord Hill and Lion Hotels respectively. Russ does regular Sunday afternoon soul & motown sessions at Ashley's as well, smack bang in the centre of town. Shrewsbury is just a great place to stay, a wonderful vibe and spirit.....thatll be on display tonight at...The Church. Come and have a great day out and a top notch evening too!, see you ALL, in a few hours time😉👍🎵💃🕺🎶⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  8. Wow!, weather forecast for this weekend in the capital: 29° 3 days to lift off and its " 3-2-1, here it come " 🎵💃🕺🎶 Classic stompers like these, true to what the scene is about, sounds as fresh as ever😉👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  9. So much on this weekend, 3 day events accepted, still so much to offer though for people who just want a night out, enjoying a few tunes, a dance, socializing with friends and the ambience. This place is a sponge for soaking up atmosphere!. Shrewsbury has always been the county's capital of Soul, plenty of well known venues over the decades, and the Church joins a long tradition...great acvoustics in this room where the sound isnt lost and yhere no feedback to endure. If you still havrnt made your mind up, you'll little better, if not at all, on offer in Shropshire this Saturday so, do yourself a favour and get to where the good times roll...a sermon full of soul at the Church...amen to that!!🙏😉👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐🎵💃🕺🎶
  10. Always been a great venue, and since the millenium, a long runner under several stewardships, good local turn out, low slung roof, good accoustics, competitive bar prices, great dancefloor, regulars and newcomers creating a welcoming, friendly atmoshere. Bradford's ONLY current Saturday soul night! Do yourselves a favour peeps and get along to this, spot on floor filling music, requests taken care of. Big UP to Stuart and Mick for relaunching the Harold, fully deserved, so...lets see a PACKER!😉👍🎵💃🕺🎶⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  11. The two guys who've run this popular function, so successfully over the years: Russ Reeves and Mark Downing...got great combined musical knowledge between them and record collections to match..plus they always like to get a likeminded guest dj in as well...people who will play from their playboxes and not be formulaic, you get to hear plenty of different stuff at every occasion. Russ & Mark always have a warm smile and a welcoming shake of hands for all visitors, whether regular or new. Come and say hello and imsure theyll play something for you that you like.😉👍
  12. Hopefully our shropshire Soulies are getting theirselves geared up for this, a week saturday?, been a bit quiet of recent on account of a spate of weekenders, no different this time with the Flyde Coast the centre of attraction for those wanting the extended function. However, the whole of the uk cant attend in which case for all those who've missed out previously for one unfortunate reason or another...June 18th is your chance for atonement!. One thing the gig aint, is homage to production line of bog standard oldies...guaranteed to hear plenty of different stuff...a great sermon from Russ & Mark....and the guests always bring something new ti the turntables. Spacious parking here, i forgot to mention and for stopovers, there are plenty of hotel establishments within 5-10 minutes of the venue. Not town centre, this place, but reached within 10-15 mins from: A5 - A53 - M54 ( J7 ) & A49. Whether youre from Wrexham, Chester, Oswestry, Telford, Wolverhampton etc, come and have a great night out at the church and SANCTIFY YOUR SOUL!🎵💃🕺🎶⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐😉👍
  13. Not in the States they didnt but here, UK Motown put out a 3 track featuring " Real Humdinger " ( without the string section )
  14. Fabulous Small room with polished dancfloor, seats probably 60, holds 120-30 max, low ceiling, great accoustics and a condusive atmosphere, always full of friendly, smiley faces...and always up for a good dance...probably Shropshire's best kept secret when it comes to a night out soulin' The venue is set in a decommissioned church that belongs to the Freemasons guild. Competitive bar prices and standard admission for an 8-12:30am finish
  15. The new discoveries and ' secret Sounds ' were generally played on a saturday night, as opposed to the very popular wednesdays. I only once took in a saturday session, featuring Max, Pep, Bazil from stourbridge, possibly Neil as well and i can honestly say, from what i remember, i didnt recognize a tune being played, that probably accounted for the fact it wasnt very well attended. I also dont think Max bothered covering things up, particularly from what was played midweek, he certainly had Simon's early acetates of his synthisized garbage, but no one honestly paid attention...they were too busy dancing, blocked up...or both!...well...maybe one tune i can remember which was Paul Anka, im sure it was covered up as Dean Courtney whose ' ill always need you ' was being played at the same time.
  16. I wasnt able to attend the final night ( Saturday 13th July ), i did however, go to the club the night before for a special party with all the food laid on, even got to spin a couple of tunes in the booth whilst Max was otherwise pre-occupied. As far as im aware and have always been told, that last night the venue was bursting at the seams, fire exits doors open because it was like a furnace in there. I attended for the last 6 months but wouldve been totally oblivious to cassette players so, quite honestly, this is extraordinary!....but in hindsight, i wouldnt put it past Richard Domar😁 sounds like Max djing. I have always been told about the aftermath of the niter, according to the legend, Swoz and other stacked dustbins on top of each other and somehow, dismantled the illuminated signage from the venues exterior on Temple Street....i know for a fact it resided for a long time after, in the back of Max's record shop in Wednesfield, after which i think Swoz came into possession of it?. The Catacombs was my first real introduction to what you call a nationally recognized venue the venue signage found its way to Max's record shop and remained there for a long time. Never went on that last saturday but atteneded the night before for a special farewell party. Saturday 13th July: always told it was rammed, never any suggestion people went elsewhere...The Casino, for a long time, was held responsible by many for the Cats demise...but then the era of the all niter was a far more exciting concept and Wigan was a different proposition altogether. If Domar went, i wouldnt have a clue ( the Cats, that is ) but im gobsmacked to hear a tape. Sounds like Max djing, in which case its more than likely a wednesday night. I attended the last 6 months, but my cousin and her gang had been going 12 months previously....they pursuaded me to go with them. The Cats was my first introduction to a legendary venue, playing this new, exciting music. Favourute tune there?: without any doubt, Saxie Russell - Psychedelic Soul, monster floor packer, brought back in that infamous haul from Florida by Graham Warr.
  17. Agentsmith posted a soul guide event in Soul Nights

Masonic Hall, Crewe St, SHREWSBURY,. Across the board quality Soul with residents Mark & Russ + guest. Shropshire's best spacious parking, 5 mins from town centre, close to train & bus stations.
  18. So....honestly, having not youtubed it, and never having heard it , is this of intense interest because the track itself falls into the " sweet soul/Lowrider " category? The Ethics story sounds great tbh, it seems they didnt get the roll of the dice, despite working with Thom Bell..the sound they were creating prempted the arrival of tsop by a couple of years...they split up prior to that music exploding onto the scene at the beginning of the 70's..." I Want My Baby Back " has proved to be a great track in the last few years, great arrangement and harmonies, i can see why theyre highly regarded. Somebody obviously knew they cause a stir with all of you guys, let alone Pork pie meister, if they chucked a red herring in.....i can see you all chin stroking, pulling at what hair is left on your head, and with a collective bamboozled expression on your faces, bordering on a demented fury because some cheeky shit has tried to pull a flanker on you with a track that is unissued yet has you doubting?, your consciences!!
  19. Only available on a US " best of " cd....agreed?, dosnt exist as a single, completely unissued...therefore: carver?, easily done, replica labels....how the fuck did MMM walk into that one?, mental blackout?? Original members went on to form Love Committee
