  1. sorry didin't quote the price dave, but i wouldn't have been aware of its value,....let alone that its the original version ( i presume? ) same terra shirma backing track as righteous bros though.....must admit, i have the lp and i think their version is brill.
  2. hi baz, check out steve jeffries' rarenorthernsoul. com, copy for sale now! rob
  3. nice set there phil, good to see you at lowton last week, keep up the good work
  4. it seems we're reliant on you dear friend & soul brother to bring us to our senses.....what a terribly sobering experience for a sunday morning....i didn't know gary personally but im sure you'll agree if i say, HE was one of US......how precious and fragile is mortality?, he's in a better place now, where, one day we all hope we shall be...god preserve us.......sincerest condolences to gary's family from rob & may in telford
  5. very nice mix there girl, hope you're looking after yourself, old cloth ears must be proud of you!
  6. dont know about the lp bro, best ask pete smith, you should check out the double a-side single on pye, "dont run away/stop" 1968 came out on australian astra as well....might be pop but it would have been massive at the casino in its "blue eyed" phase.

totally awesome tune...great crossover/night ender? hairs on the back of the neck stuff on the function dvd, wether or not it was played at wigan.
  8. i think thats what he meant as well pete, a good many of us have seen the pre- grapevine promotional before. it reminded me of the margaret little record where only one legit acetate exists, in tim brown's posession, he got that off popcorn wylie.
  9. just incase you missed it the first time, richard's show on smooth radio, boradcast on august bank holiday is available to listen to again. just log on to the smooth radio website to here the sounds of the catacombs, the golden torch and blackpool mecca!..
  10. YEP, A CRACKER... had one ages ago now i want it AGAIN!, heard bob hinsley spin it at last lowton...how good is this tune?? is it something like £150 now or am i off the mark?,.....problem is...even the knowledgeable dealers are at odds over value based i believe on who's playing it ( if at all ) and where and how many copies are circulating or wether theyve all disappeared into collections anyway.
  11. andy lad, are we on the same wavelength or what?....this trammps track is gonna go huge!
  12. john, hope you dont mind me asking but where did you come across the deanna shenderey and is it a u.k. release? in 30 odd years ive never seen a copy for sale let alone knew if anyone was aware of the record, remember tony reynolds playing it back in 79/80 at mod gigs but heard nothing since.
  13. pete you are absolutely 100% RIGHT about the 77 exposure, i remember richard making a rare journey south and playing it at the wulfrun hall, wolverhampton, i definitely remember him having the precise acetate, though if there were more than one of these rca promo's you'd have to ask him. just out of interest...he's playing an rca promo of the tamangoes....imagine what THAT would fetch at auction, regardless of the washpan release? ....incidentally, as an aside to this...can i just congratulate everyone on this post for the infinitely colourful banter and ribbing that im sure, preserves ALL our sanities!!
  14. didn't even realise it was on, but when you're 10 miles from oban, out in the wilderness wi' nowt but 1200 tunes on the ipod and a wee dram...guess thats adequate compensation so i guess that broadsheet reviewers are much more knowledgeable & refined on the subject matter than the ner-do -well strawheads of the previous epoch.the music being the only thing of relevance, but this offering was of considerably less laughability than say, a certain liverpudlian in a tank top performing a high wire act whilst ted rogers sidekick, dusty bin watched on. surprised i suppose, thats its took as long as it has to be screened terrestrially...oops!, perhaps that should be.....extraterrestrially....almost as much fun for them as the smash ad the fact that it was put on so late wasnt even a tribute to damage limitation then?, it hasn't left anyone in particular feeling embarrased and we're not beating ourselves up over it,..are we??. if anything, the george gently storyline probably provided more emphasis on period for arguementativeness here, where the music was concerned as the script itself had entirely nothing to do with northern soul....and is it not so, from the previous thread pertaining to that program, that not too many soulies watch period drama?...you tell me. moving on, perhaps a more rational critique will be applied to the forthcoming northern soul story.
  15. is it not surprising, that apart from r&r/doowop, no other musical archive can be discussed with an unquenched thirst?.....black music, soul, rnb, funk or its unique derivitive which, we in the u.k. championed above all else,...northern soul....the fact is, 500 will never be enough, wether excrutiatingly rare or anthemically populist...this music tells it like it is and many of us past, present and in the future, have and will mirror our lives like it. ....so just keep chucking these mind blowing jewels into the ring if you like the thread, personally its of much value to me seeing artists and titles pop up that ive never seen or heard before..even after 40+ years
  16. bugger me arthur, i never knew you were REALLY cheryl ann......
  17. apologies pete, and everyone else for that matter, in sincereity that fact had slipped my mind....supose the only thing is,...john will probably update when he needs to as records that even he hasnt come across, broaden the concensus......and he IS still bringing them to light, even if theyre auctioned on behalf of someone else.....well, whatever....its given people something to wrack their brains about for a couple of days to get over a wet miserable mind-numbingly boring august bank holiday.....mike, or chalky, if you want to knock this one on the head, no problem
  18. fair comment mark, just off the top of my head, basically because i like them and most, if not all cost a significant amount of money. i did state however, that it shouldnt need to be about their value or even our preferences...just think we can get to the crux of what are generally considered the rarest 500...bound of course, to include stuff already in the popular 500 ( kev's original book ) and marmite tunes....like i said, im not a foremost expert in this department, but like you said, an adjudicator would be wholy preferable or say, a panel of 3 or 4 respected people on the scene, be it collectors, djs, record dealers etc.
  19. right on sis, see,...well known, but still rare.
  20. sandy golden - you are my everything eddie billups - ask my heart emory & dynamics - lets take a look at our lives dennis edwards - johnny on the spot william powell - heartaches, souveniers nurons - all of my life
  21. i reckon everyone on soulsource CAN put together a 500 that consists of quality rare tunage, regardless of value, and a concensus of opinion that agrees with the selections ....but of course i did say top 500 rareities and obviously with that being the case, marmite records are going to appear amongst them, strictly speaking.
  22. i'll chuck a few in then and be prepared to be shot at: just my suggestions, i know they're quite rare, couldnt possibly guess valuations but thats not what its about........ carpets - i just cant win esther grant - lets get the most out of life gerri shivers - lets try it again mamie galore - no right to cry marilyn barbarin - just a teenager dreamettes - thats not love esther harris - scarlet moon betty wilson - im yours katie briggs - last time around tina roberts - one way or the other new wanderers - aint gonna do you no harm combinations - i chose you some of these up there?, am i wide of the mark?....you tell me, you're the experts
  23. no particular order or preference, forget valuation because EVERYONE'S interpretation of that is different ( same as dna ) and...i like chalky...the man is straight talking...and no differentiating over wether they are the dogs or the bogs ....just thought, as it appears it hasnt been done before, we could colloborate in putting together a 500, opposite to the greatest hits or popular anthems. inevitably, some of those well known rareities will figure in this anyway, because they are, quite naturally or have only ever been found in minute quantities, yet made it to many ears, whilst in the last couple of decades lets say others have been the privalaged posession of very few djs or collectors so they've not been heard by the masses.
  24. or dobie gray for that matter, 70's releases, quality soul mind...maybe they were they had played all the others and these were the last two in the 50 box?
  25. two completely different sets there bro, v ery diverse and do i so want a terry & jerry....dont want to sell it do you?, or can you put me onto one?
