  1. I just don't think you can put things in a discog which don't exist - just because someone says they exist, thats no basis to argue that you're right Dave. I based what I said on having been around records for a long time, and I've never heard of many of these couplings - and certainly not seen them or handled them. These are what I have a problem with Atac 2830 - (We're In A) Rat Race / Oh Not Me - 1975 (Rumoured To Be Only Six Copies Made - All With A Hand Written Label) Washpan 854 - Rat Race / Oh Not Me - ? Washpan 32943 - Rat Race / ? - 197? W. M. C. 358 - Like My Baby (Instrumental) / Rat Race - ? I have seen both the Do De Re versions of Like My Baby, one is an A side, one is an instrumental B side to Gino Is A Coward. I've actually got WMC 358 in front of me and it is Gino Is A Coward b/w Like My Baby instrumental...so there's one wrong for a start. p.s. I had no idea you did the discography so don't make/take it personally
  2. Agree 100% - Flame looks great on DVD by the way in case you haven't got it (I can send you a copy) - fantastic bands and all local lads, you can still spot Dave Hill and Jimmy Lea round here and I literally bumped into Don Powell in the early 90's in Bexhill On Sea!
  3. What I mean is that it helped open the door to an avelanche of second rate 70's tunes which still persist today

I was thinking about this in bed last night because someone said it's impossible for an instrumental to be soulful - my favourite insts are things like Bari Track, Cigarette Ashes, Locke's Theme (not a joke!), Exus Trek, but I would say that Ramsey Lewis' Wade In The Water or Booker T Time Is Tight, surely these have to be classed as soul???
  5. and look out for the white DJ bootleg with sterling sound scratched in - it's on vinyl, and the sound quality is poor Am I really the only person on the ns scene who hates this record??? I think of it as the start of a downward spiral
  6. It's all gone quiet in the Dudley area
  7. Interestingly - well not really - a lot of the bassline running through the Charlie Gracie record is identical to Day tripper by The Beatles :o
  8. There was one on Ebay 2 months ago - I thought I was going to win it at 500 dollars then about 10 snipe bids went on and it went up to 2500 or something like that
  9. I bought it - actually I didn't, I shoplifted it from a reduced 45's box because I didn't have 20p, the only thing I've ever stolen - in 1973 when I was 13 and I could literally play this record every day and never get tired of it, in fact I do play it mosr days. The weird thing is, when my girlfriend heard it she thought it was...wait for it...Carol King!

One of them was on Never Mind The Buzzcocks a few weeks back and a couple of them have given their considered opinions on the UK Music Hall Of Fame thing that's going on channel 4 at the moment - they look like mods to be honest, young kids...didn't sound Irish though. This is if I'm thinking of the right group of course!
  11. Do they have to be soul? How long will it take - pat kelly i saw the light - todd rundgren coz i luv you - slade lets stay together - al green you don't care - the techniques northern wise - mel britt, yum yums, bernie williams, sam williams, joannie sommers, doni burdick, tobi legend - I could probably name 100
  12. I think all the pink issues are legit represses which John Anderson had done. The only original as the sterling stamped white demos. The issues are therefore reissues but are still sold as originals, because they sort of are, as the record never actually got past the WDJ stage.
  13. Yeah got loads of them mate
  14. I've got that listed as "Our Country Needs Love" John (but confusingly, the B side as you titled it)...Moodisc 7430 (thats a matrix, very few have catalogue numbers on the label) Pete
  15. Yeah I saw that, he had a reserve of 300 on it I think - reggae dealer from London
  16. I'd question these, especially the dates, and according to this there are 4 official releases of Rat Race from the 70's...you saying you agree with that? DO-DE-RE ? GINO WASHINGTON Like My Baby (Instrumental) / I'll Be Around (When You Want Me) (Instrumental) 197? DO-DE-RE ? GINO WASHINGTON Like My Baby / Like My Baby (Instrumental) 197? ATAC 2830 (hand written label) GINO WASHINGTON (We're In A) Rat Race / Oh Not Me 1975 WASHPAN 854 GINO WASHINGTON (We're In A) Rat Race / Oh Not Me 197? WASHPAN 32943 GINO WASHINGTON Rat Race / ? 197? W.M.C. 358 GINO WASHINGTON Like My Baby (Instrumental) / Rat Race 197?
  17. Yeah it's fantastic - I mean, truly fantastic. I've got about 80, half of which I taped myself, but this one while not the greatest aurally, almost certainly has the best atmosphere. PM me and give me your address and I'll send it you on cd if you like Pete
  18. Obscure R&B artists Some good stuff there and also have a look at the discographies one if you get the chance, the Gino Washington 45 discography is mind-boggling and I would suggest that several of the items listed don't exist...also has anyone ever seen the Atac LP?
  19. Nice Maxine Brown issue there mate, not seen that before, only demos Pete

They have got to be promos, or signifying which side of the record to play - you find them on lots of that group of labels - ABC, TRC, Dunhill - at first I thought it was just someone's mark but I've had way too many of them now for it to be a coincidence. Maybe they ran out of white demos!
