  1. I've currently got an unsold white demo at £50, there's a couple of label variations, this is the rarer E George Clemens one as opposed to the plain E one. I'd sooner keep it than let it go any cheaper.
  2. Brilliant track, and so is the other side as well
  3. What's the Nicky James record Gene, never heard of it! British I presume, so a double slap on the wrist for me.
  4. Yes it is. And I think it's one of the records that really started to break the mold.
  5. There was little serious debate because the original topic was missing, it was chugging along nicely. See, now I'm not sure if I can leave a reply to your post.
  6. Not sure - was going by the guitar sound really
  7. Yeah I tried that a few posts back, there's at least 5 other people done one liners, don't single me out.
  8. For f*cks sake, at the risk of repeating myself AGAIN, I don't have a problem with Jock at all, I disagree with him on some things but all I'm bothered about here is the way he *appeared to* go for Gene, as I would have been whoever it had been directed at, you even.
  9. Some of my favourite blue eyed Northern dancers are reparata & the delrons - panic delrays incorportaed - destination unknown anderson brothers - i can see him loving you jaonie sommers - don't pity me joey heatherton - the hullabaloo paul abka - can't help loving you ronnie & robyn - as long as you love me shane martin - i need you tony galla - in love the epitome of sound - you don't love me timi yuro - it'll never be over for me blimey this could run to hundreds
  10. Originals got a stamp mate. Either Bell Sound or Nashville matrix.
  11. Maybe it's time this topic got closed. Unless everyone's enjoying the arguing?
  12. Off to your drama queen lessons are you?
  13. Oh b*llocks Russ. Poignant? It's a throwaway post on a solul forum, not a eulogy, what are you on? Pick on my mates, I'll stick up for them, end of.
  14. It's come to something when people jump in the defend such an aggressive attack on another forum member.
  15. The backing music is great though...
  16. Not going to start this one up again. Theres a whole mega-topic about it already
  17. I know it's only a moot point in the grans scheme of things Russ but all those top dj's played off emidiscs as part of their set, in another topic I was actually recalling buying an emidisc of Sam straight out of his play box, he used to get them from Rob Lythall of leicester. Remember keith Minshull, big room mainstay for many years, emi's everywhere.
  18. No what I mean is that he rightly says that white cover versions of black songs are latgely insipid, and I agree with him, except those three that he chose there are not insipid and are all very, very good records (Walker Bros, Moody Blues, Beatles). We've had the Moody Blues / Bessie Banks argument loads of times though.
  19. Rich great to see you back, just in time to, we've just arrived at your favourite subject, The Moody Blues "Go Now", which is where you cam in in the first place I think...or was it Georgie Fame "Sitting in the park"
  20. No, Bill Pursell was covered as Sons Of Moses by Sam, I bought his own emidisc of that off him at Newcastle Tiffs to get The Camp, which was on the other side of his copy. Chris Cerf was sent to me by John Manship by mistake with "barbara mills - the bigger they are" (Fabulettes) on the other side, we'd never heard of either of them as they were east coast nighter sounds. Lorraine Silver was on a 4 track I had with things like bernie williams, I'd actually asked for tony hester - down in the dumps but he hadn't got it so put lost summer love on, again, we didn't know it because Wigan hadn't started playing it at that point.
  21. Sorry but stopped reading as soon as he said this: Also the feeling that black skin was important was a clear reaction to the "rip-offs" which constituted many insipid white covers of soul tunes. Although this practise was more prevalent in the 50s - and worse artistically - it still occurred in the 60s. The most extreme examples like the Walker Brothers "My Ship Is Coming In", the Moody Blues "Go Now" and the Beatles atrocious "Twist and Shout" still continue to grate even to this day all of those are as good as or better than the originals - he's set his agenda out right from the start
  22. It's not that sad because it was played on pre-release for a long time before it came out on 20th century and before Ian had those Tomorrow label demos made up, the only way anyone could get it was to get an emidisc done. It was truly massive at the time so all the dj's needed a copy.
  23. Just saying that the term is being used Russ, no big deal
  24. To be fair to Jock, it was Gene who put Dean Courtney on the blue eyed list, as some people pointed out in the original topic yesterday
  25. Agree, terrible version. But on the subject of Madeline Bell, her Philips singles are all brilliant, not that many people know she did a great version of "Don't come running to me", then there's the aformentioned "Picture me gone" and a really fantastic version of "I can't wait to see my baby's face" which uses the same backing track as Dusty's LP version.
