I urgently need to contact Karl Rhodes, as he has one of my records that Paul Sadot left with him. Paul has gone away and he was supposed to be buying the record from me. He gave back word on the deal and should have got the record back to me. However, he sent me a text message saying that Mr. Rhodes has the record. Not much use to me, as I don't know the guy. Please could some kind soul let me have his contact details so we can sort this out. Thanks for looking, Phil.

Hang on, let me get my head round this. You are calling John's live and totally open auction a fraud, and in the same breath, recomending Goldmines covert undercover auction, as the ideal. You are having a laugh mate. Can't wait to send in my email, with my bid, and then wait and see if I've won. Oh, hang on, no, only the winner is informed. Oh, I must have lost. Chris has hit the nail on the head here. The reason that people will pay over the odds for records off John's auction is, if you are not happy with your purchase, he will refund you, with no hassle. Compare that to ebay, where I for one, have been ripped off many times. The fact is that people trust John because he runs his business in a totally professional way. He has sold records for me, and I have bought records, from his auction. I have no hesitation in doing business with him, and trust his integrity. In short, I like the guy. Phil.

Hi Kev, Some very good points well put there, but, didn't you make your name originally by being at the cutting edge of this scene. You had the records that the others didn't, and the rest, as they say is history. The thing that frustrates so many of us Kev, is that we struggle to get punters to our upfront nights. Yet you have 1000+ listening to the same old playlist. Jealousy, envy? I don't think so. I just want to share my passion for this music with like minded individuals. I feel that if we don't offer something fresher, more exciting, then people will get fed up and leave the scene. That's just my opinion Kev, you are obviously one of, if not, THE, number one promoter on this scene. But how long will there be a scene? All the best to you and your's, Phil.

I think what it is Dave, is that most of us on here really CARE about the scene. And if it wasn't for us, there wouldn't be a scene at all. The collectors are the soul [pardon the pun] of this scene. God bless em all. How long would the retro thing last, if not for the REAL faithful. I remember when it was underground and exciting, that's what it's all about to me. Lifeline, that's where it's at. A mate of mine turned 5 or 6 copies of this up in the states late nineties. Thinks he sold 2 to Butch, rest went dirt cheap for swaps etc. I wonder if these are still the only ones that have surfaced, all white demos by the way. Silly b*****d never kept one. Great record, I love it.

Hi Kev, To be honest I have never met you, so I only know you from your promotions / business dealings etc. But what I should have made clear was, what I, and you, consider to be big events, are totally different. I wouldn't be seen dead at one of your promotions, and would never dj at one [not that I'd ever be asked, obviously] No, I was refering to the northern soul scene, you ought to try it sometime, it's brilliant. No, sarchasem aside, all you need to be a top jock at your promotions is the "top 500" record box. Just pass it on to the next "top dj" as you walk off. Sorry Kev but you sold out a long time ago, and there is still a scene out there, trying to keep it rare and underground. Which is quite hard when you keep re-issuing / bootlegging? everything. I can't help but admire your abillity to part people from there money, but I don't think Simon was asking how do I become a dj with no credibility, and get to play the same records week in week out. Think he was asking those dreadfull record collectors, the ones who live in the real world, and are constantly looking for something new to spin, for their advice. No offence, off course. Personally think it's crap, another rarity over quallity. You never hear it played out and I'm glad about that.

Oh Simon, Simon, Simon, Where do I begin. Every single person who collects records on this scene, wants to be a DJ. Simple as that. And is the reason there are sooooo many events on now. Because when I first tried to get DJ spots, I was given some advice from a very well known DJ. And it was spot on. He said, you have to start your own night, or you will never get regular spots. So there you have it, most of us have realised that it's the only way, start your own night. The only other way is if you have an unbelievably good collection, and I mean loads of heavy weight tunes and maybe some one offs. Or if you are a millionaire you can just buy yourself the best collection. Sorry to be negetive, but I speak from experiance. Good luck though. Phil.

Hi Andy, I agree entirely with what you say, and I'm trying to create such a venue myself. Hard going at the moment, but hopefully getting more of the faithfull to come and participate, through word of mouth / reccomendation. Don't know where you live, but if you fancy a trip to Soul Salvation @ Burnley Cricket Club, I would be interested to hear your comments on what I'm trying to achieve. Next one is Sat. Sorry Brett, I was actually talking about the mini disc unit in my hi-fi system. I don't know about the portable ones. Are they as good or as easy to use? I don't know. Certainly worth a try though. I just turn my hi-fi on and stick in a disc, then play my collection of 45s.You can even stick it on radom play, so you never know what's comming on next. Awesome. Phil.

I'd just like to make a case for the MINI DISC Don't panic, I am a vinyl man through and through. But if you are a vinyl collector, the mini disc is something you should consider bying. Let me explain. Whenever I get a new piece of vinyl I put it staight onto a mini disc, and that's it. I only play my vinyl when I'm doing a spot somewhere. All my vinyl is on mini disc, and to me, and all other owners of mini discs that I've spoken to, they sound much better than cd. AND, the process of recording seems to clean up any background from the vinyl. Unlike cd's, mini discs can be wiped clean, instantly. or individual tracks moved, or removed at will. Mini discs really are the dogs doo dahs, and I can't understand why they never took off. Even the discs themselves are far nicer to handle than those horrible cd's. And they are so small to cary arround. Mini discs are the best thing since cassette tapes, and far superior to any other medium, except vinyl of course. Can't recomend them highly enough. I couldn't live without mine. One of the worlds best kept secrets.

Deffo on an L.P. Can't remember title though. Would have thought 4 tops first as it is a jobette tune.
