  1. Me thinks you have a vested interest in pushing this so called "new" music Dave. There's an awful lot of people like myself, who have spent many years going to allnighter's and soul nights, looking to hear something new that makes you say the immortal words " wow! What the fcuk is that, it's brilliant" and rushing onto the dance floor to try and express that emotion. Last time I went to a nighter I couldn't actually tell whether the music was good, bad, or indifferent, the sound system was so badly set up it was just a noise. There's nobody playing anything new that I want to hear, but I'm still entitled to my opinion. I've served my time on the dance floor thank you, and I know a good record when I hear one. Not heard a new one in a long time though.
  2. It's supposed to be a f***ing dance scene. Once it loses that, it's just background music.
  3. Wise words from Mr. Ashibende.
  4. It's all about opinions, and if you can go out every week and find something that stimulates you and keeps you interested, then I salute you because I certainly can't. The so called up front venues are just the same as the oldies nights, they're just playing Stafford or other old venues records. Looking at playlists there's very little that is new. Even the crossover and seventies plays are the same big money rarities that the top jocks have been playing for years. Some people have been going out to events since the seventies without a break. How the hell they can keep the interest going is beyond me.
  5. The guy did say "weekly" and as for your "oop narth" comment, that's why it was called "northern soul" We all know that the 100 club was a huge part of the scene 30 years ago, but we are talking about today, 2015. It's just another allnighter these days.
  6. I don't know about other areas of the country, but there is a promoter in my area that must be involved in half a dozen promotions. Same promoter, same Dj's, same punters. Just a different local town and venue. He more or less has the oldies scene sewn up. People say that the unsuccessful nights will close. No they won't, not when the venues don't charge anything and people will DJ for nothing. That's what you are up against these days. Venues are struggling to stay in business, and as long as they get a few in drinking, that's all they care about. And wannabe Dj's who will kill for a spot. Don't even need to charge a door tax. Result: events = tons of them, quality = zero.
  7. It's a vicious circle, if you don't invite everyone and their dog to Dj at your event, they won't come to support it. Simple as that. Even if your event has the best music in the world, people will definitely NOT come. I tried it
  8. Mmmmmm, someone is taking a risk. That venue won't come cheap, let's hope they get the support.
  9. Old age and no new sixties. That's what is killing the scene.
  10. Was discussing the crazy prices of classics with a friend the other night. He thought that maybe the recent release of people's pension funds could be a contributing factor. There certainly seems to be a plethora of people with a lot of spare cash. If only I was one of them.
  11. I posted this but nobody commented. /forums/topic/340802-reuben-james-richards-we-always-be-together/
  12. I presume you are talking about the Rita Lee there Chalky? What's the story with the Cresa Watson then. Don't think I've ever heard it.
  13. Blimey! Has nobody else heard it?
  14. I know a lot of people who won't even bother with a record they really want if it's on one of the big auctions. They think it will go for silly money, so puts them off even bidding. The thing is with a set sale price, it doesn't give potential buyers the time to think about it. You snooze, you lose.
  15. never seen the Cressa Watson, ever. How many known?
  16. I keep hearing this on Radio 2. Bloody good I think, and very "northern" sounding.

Like I have said before, the wanna be Dj's must have. The power of Butch does it again.
  18. Yes that's original. Hang on a minute, didn't the boot have upper hand on both sides mono / stereo? Rings a bell. I reckon that's a good one Craig well done.
  19. The boot I remember was terrible sound quality. The intro sounded like it was split between the two channels. The run out is nearly an inch The original, the sound quality is fantastic. The run out is around a quarter of an inch.
  20. I think we would all like the "specialness" of the midnight to eight a.m. allnighter, because that's a "proper" allnighter. And the romance of that appeals to my romantic nature. But don't forget that in the old days there was no alcohol involved. How many would turn up these days for a midnight to eight a.m. nighter with just soft drinks? We can't turn back the clocks. It's Sunday afternoon tea dances from now on. I still think that an 8 pm start time is just too "normal" for a nighter though.
  21. Like I said earlier. Very difficult to get venue owner and staff to work those hours. There is no ordinary throwing out time at pubs and clubs like there used to be. Everyone is doing all nighters these days. Unfortunately times have changed.
  22. I thought Mr Manship sold an acetate of this a few years ago, didn't he. I personally thought it was dreadful.
