Jackie Lee
Your memory doesn't fail you Paul - the boots had the vocal/instr. versions, both titled "Superdance", when as you say the vocal is "Hully gully".

Beaten By The Rhythm
Lela Martin was a Dome spin for Flynny etc. a few years back - 200 MPH, loads of vibes, described as Mirwood-like. It came out on that V2 compilation CD a while back. Like you Mel B, Cindy Scott will forever be associated with hot, sweaty summer nights at the Cats! Hippo.

Beaten By The Rhythm
Two to tie you in knots - Lela Martin "You can't have your cake" and Cindy Scott "Time can change a love"

Jay Boy Records
Yup, can confirm that the flyer is from '67. And I'm sure I've said this before, but with todays audio standards, some of the Jay Boy stuff really shows as being dubbed from a US 45, Dreams Band in particular but some of the Mirwood stuff as well (Jimmy Thomas springs to mind). Not that I'm complaining, it was the only way we could get the tunes at the time, but I always found the Action (and later, Contempo) Mirwood reissues superior in sound quality. Jerry.

Latest Issue - Blues Ans Soul Mag
Trouble is it's not so visible these days, I haven't seen it on sale in WH Smith - or anywhere else for that matter - in years, the website wasn't updated for months, I thought it had gone under!
-
The High Keys
...and talking of cover versions, don't forget that Geno Washington took it, souped it up somewhat, and made it a mod anthem in '66

The Prophets - Shrine Item Number: 200104529878
Love it!

Steam
never associate that with Wigan - thought it was only Clarkie playing it. Hippo (predictably Yate orientated as ever... )

Shorty Long
On an original album - was it "The prime of Shorty Long"? Plus of course on "This is Northern Soul" Vol. 2 CD

Mr Croasdell Does It Again - New Batch Of Kent 45's Must Have's
Francis T had some Little Anns at Worcester last weekend...couldn't resist putting one in my box
-
Richard Searling Tunes
Not being pedantic or anything but it was covered as the Vel-vets....and Thelma Jones "Salty Tears" has to be one of my favourite slowies - didn't know it until my girlfriend at the time played it to me in '83, managed to pick up a demo Lp of it a little later. Hippo.

Theres That Mountain
Just to clarify, it jumps on the "There's that mountain" side. Hippo.

Soulful House
This is getting strange now! Dug out Unity Deep a month back and tried it at a Northern/Anything goes night in Stroud and got a good reaction on it as well! Come to think of it, maybe not so strange as a lot of these came from a certain shop in Warrington anyway...
-
Theres That Mountain
Think we've done this before, but the obvious giveaway is that the original single that they dubbed the first boot from jumps on the fade-out...a simple listen will soon tell you...

Soulful House
Agreed - funnily enough, dug out my copy of Tammy Banks only last night. Spooky, huh!

Soulful House
Hows about a mention for one of my fave labels of the early 90's - Emotive? think it was James Howard "We can do it" that I got first (the Italian remix wasn't bad either). Heard Butch Quick "Always" out and about at the weekend, had to dig my copy out! Hippo.

Aretha Franklin
Can never get my head round why I missed this at the time - I was on the Arista mailing list, managing a radio station record library, getting all the new releases etc., etc., - and yet didn't know about it until someone started playing it a few years back. Just goes to prove something or other, though I can't think what...
-
Jimmy Castor
Thank you - I've been saying the same for years...in fact ever since I was able to pitch it up a bit on the Technics! Hippo.

The Carlton
Can't remember - do recall several footie players having a good night out though! Was it Paul ince and Paul Parker? Also recall Sam Dees, think he'd done Southport the night before. This was at the time of "After all", which of course was goosebump stuff, but he also did "Lonely for you baby" to the delight of the NS people there!

The Carlton
That's the girls

The Carlton
Great memories of these Sunday nights around 89/90, as you know well Barry - used to travel up with my ex and a couple more Gloucester girls, getting home around 4 o'clock on Monday morning! Jerry. PS you forgot Dazzle embarrassing me by singing a namecheck during their PA!

Soul Twins & Gloria Jones Originals
From memory, the boot which has the black label looking like the scan earlier has "AZ" scratched in the dead wax. Hippo.
