Dancers On You Tube
Some people on this site aren't right in their head. The vidoe is top. The dancing looks really good and the spins and backdrops are what they wanted because ordinary people would find it rather good to watch. How anyone can call it rubbish is beyond belief. Maybe they should have got some fat bold guy in spencers, filled him full of whizz then let him go dancing for 16 hrs. That would have looked much better than getting some young, cool geunine soulies who were representing the soul scene. Don't be proud of them eh! Just sit at your computer and slag them off. You lot want to get your heads from out of your arses. Unbelievable........

An All Time Low?
What about the other off topic debate about a play? Surely not relevant for this thread either?

An All Time Low?
Sorry Shane. I got a bit carried away. I'll go in the garden and give myself 10 lashings across the midriff.

An All Time Low?
Don't get me started Baz. I listen to Terry Christian on BBC Radio Mcr on the way home from work. He's been banging on about this Soul Nation thats been on and Trevor Nelson's performance when he came up to Wigan. TC was going mad about how he didn't look a bit interested and how soul music was mis-represented and a real injustice was carried out on the BBC's part. Anyway, so this week he's plugging the bank holiday night in wigan and talking briefly about NS for 5 -10 mins each day followed by a song. He couldn't make his mind up what to play today. It was between Landslide, Rescue me (????!!!) or ghost in my house. When I heard this I pulled the car over and text him saying that he should really research it better and play something thats current for todays scene such as Johnny Howard or Sam Dee's, as the tunes he's picked are either not played anywhere or overplayed. Next news he's laughing and calling me an expert after reading my text out. I text back saying that northern soul never gets on the mainstram and when it does its the same five songs that get played. I also pointed out that I felt he had done an injustice to NS just like Soul Nation did. Of course he didn't read that one out. Why can't someone see past the usual offenders and put something on that will excite an audience. Or am I just banging my head against a brick wall?????

An All Time Low?
The Casino Cafe isn't the best idea in my book. I work in Wigan and the blokes in the office came up to me to inform me that there was a Casino Cafe in the shopping centre. Then they paused and looked at me waiting for a reply as though I was going to get up and leg it down there for a butty. I too find it a bit uncool that something I love is associated with a cafe. I agree with Shane on that point. And one more rant about the newies v oldies scene. When I first came on this scene 5 years ago I just couldn't believe how cool it was. My first early nighters were at Sheridans and Goldbourne. Dark dingy places playing this amazing music. It just didn't get any better and that was MY scene. I later discovered that there was an adjacent scene that was at slightly better venue's and I knew most of the songs and the blokes wore these funny baggy pants. Now I prefered the other dark and dingy places where I didn't know the tunes but I would go and attend these other nights and enjoy them for what they were. After a while I got really sick of these mainstram nights and I realised they weren't as cool as the rare nighters so I stopped going to them. But I would never slag these nights because the people who went to them were enjoying themselves. My point is why do people on this sight think that they have the right to tell others what they're doing is sad or un cool. If you dont like it then don't go to them and stick to nights you like. If people want to 'celebrate' Wigan Casino at the bank holiday sunday night then let them. They are going cos thats what they like. Is there anything wrong with that. These people are never going to cross over onto the rare soul scene so just get used to that fact.

Has anyone got a full clip of this tune. Its probably one of the best tune's I've ever heard. Pardon my ignorance, but if its an acetate does that mean that there will only be a couple of copies about? How hard would it be to get my grubby little hands on a copy and for what price?

Played Out Oldies
Alright John, As a young soulie that's still quite new to it all, my advice would be not to take any notice of the oldies, newies debate and just enjoy listening to and discovering new sounds. I'm hearing tunes that I think are brilliant and are new to me, but others would say they are played out! Its a no win situation to get involved in these debates because people have very different idea's of what the scene is all about. The soul scene is made of of many different types of soul lover and each type think their outlook is correct and others have no idea. Dont fall into any catergory and just embrace it for what it means to you.
