Mojo / Contempo label -alternative takes / mixes
Well some might even think that the Contempo looks better FWIW. To each it's own. T'never was my view on it though. And if Richard says so then it must true. Coming from the horse's mouth... Aaah ! In this case I must have had a Contempo copy of it decades ago but I can't remember how it sounded by now. Yet I never heard them Contempo records sounding anything really good. Far less exciting. By now I only have the Deon Jackson's 'I can't go on' on Contempo and on my MONO phono system it really tells how 'weak' it is ; low in gain with barely no depth nor body = too little bass. These are facts. The Carla press without the girl choruses suffers none of the above for example. Even less on my most unforgiving phono. And if the Paula suffers some distortions the Contempo is likely just tamed down. The use of 'better' without being more descriptive only means nothing objectively. Like a preference which is only subjective. Red is better than blue or Techies 1200 MK II are the best turntables...

C30 C60 C90 - will you go?
Occasional phono gear fixer and seller I once had 3 decent cassette decks (of the good kind) at once that I sold within 3 months time. That was a year ago. One was not even fixed nor even revised by me as I didn't want to spend time and money in it and was bought 'as is'. Now I'm out of any cassette players but if I had any I would sell them easy by now. Cult artists with commonly completists fans collect cassettes for a long while now. With some rare items fetching decent dosh. Prince would be one but likely earlier tapes for better money.

C30 C60 C90 - will you go?
Costs for beginner self promoting "artists" are not calculated in profit terms most of the time (besides daddy's or mommy's spoiled brat) but as how to do with what one has in the pocket without losing it all at the same time while making sure to keep enough spare change for a last beer... New vinyl release for small projects are often over expensive for what they are and are too often poorly and unproperly mastered (through overkill digital stages) for a disastrous pressing release making the buyer admit I liked the gig though while the record is playing for the first and last time. On the contrary it's rather catching (OK like a 'niche' thing) as it's appreciated by the elder ones who knew the format and will have a "memory" geeky object next to the gig ticket. As for the younger ones it's a financial support for the artists even though they can only play their music digitally...

C30 C60 C90 - will you go?
No improvements. Most go for the "old" cassette decks. Where some vintage models are even prized by audiophiles of the strangest nature I admit. Nostalgia plays a big part in there I believe rather than pure playback maginificence. But the rvival of the cassette has been going on for years and is still growing amongst "young" small group or acts. Original, easier and cheaper to DIY manufacture than vinyl. FWIW those cassette machines are actually fairly simple to fix for any techie with the proper tools. They can sound good on a good amp & speakers. Nothing like our kid's days "trash" effort to make swappers tapes. But what a thrill that was discovering records that way... Nostalgia moment ( ). As Am'dam Russel pointed out not a 'hum' (= ground loop issue) but more like a 'pink noise' symptom. Like 'strong wind blowing in your ear' if you will. Higher end tapes with higher end cassette player will improve that 'pink noise' pollution but I was a prole and only had the cheap gear as a teen and enjoyed them cassettes loud and proud with 'pink noise'.

Pointer Sisters - Send him back
Yes 3 pressing plants involved for the Pointer Sisters 'Send him back' ; Speciality (SP), Monarch (MO) & Plastics (PL). All in all 6 original variations for both promos & stockers.

Mojo / Contempo label -alternative takes / mixes
Yep on first ear it sounds like an even third take to both the Pandora or the Mohawk copies. Mind you that even the styrene pressing (Monarch) has a different mix (with added strings) on the flip 'no ! no ! no' than on the vinyl pressing... How many variations of it on reels ?

Mojo / Contempo label -alternative takes / mixes
For sure they had access to the original masters vaults and willingly or unwillingly published few alternate takes along the way. Were they able to be picky or were they just given what they asked for with no better regards ? Can't say for sure but isn't Bettye Swann 'I will not cry' (Contempo Raries) taken from her Money LP ? Fore sure a different take. Now I remember major variations for some tunes on her Money LP. Unpleasant to these "primitive" ears of mine as too different from my Money 45. With a most unpleasant stereo re-mastering job. Viva El Mono ! The Deon Jackson 'I Can't Go On' (Contempo Raries) is a must have 45 on both the Carla press and the Contempo-Raries. For sure they had access to Ollie McLaughlin vaults like others. Those girls choruses are TOP. Isn't the Montclairs 'Hung Up On Your Love' (Contempo) the same as the mislabeled 'how can one man live' on pink Paula ? A different mix but never will I say 'stronger'. My ears have always favoured my Paula promo by a mile.

Mable John R.I.P.
A regular late nite session home spin a while ago for me with the nite cap last sip of red wine. Yes I dig the blues. Just as I dig hers. Will pull out that 45 of hers back. Thanks a lot for that Miss Mable. Bless you +

Rarest Stock Copy
Here's a poor scan (from popsike) of the Polydor issue of Tammi Lynn I'm gonna run away from you. UK products ain't my thing (meaning I'm no specialist) but it clearly doesn't look British. Irish it could be.

RIP Johnny McCall
Maybe a big badass 'MF' but who did cut 2 fabulistic records. Plenty nice people who haven't and who we'll never listen to with so much enthusiasm neither as we do with him here and up there now with other 'MF's' š

RIP Johnny McCall
Wow ! Just saw this. Love this small time blues man lending his voice on Uptown Rythm and Blues for the like of 'you can't get away' or on simplified soulfull sophistication arrangements like for 'I need you'. Two of his records I am very found of. Bless you +++ Johnny McCall +++

record collecting flashback
Much greater days for sure. Was not rich enough to "participate" on specialized 'rare soul' auctions most of the times. But worldwide set sale lists where a great and cheap source as well next to the more desirable psych, prog, punk, rock'N'roll, doo-wop or rockabilly collectable listed prized gems š But crate digging was truly a treat to unveal and discover new sounds. Until 2 UK price guides popped in the hands of all your regular record hunters. I have no love whatsoever for the internet. Use it a lot in many ways not to be left-out but I would turn back the hands of time if it was only up to me.

Label Mistakes the factory didn't spot
Not 'first press' if ever but from the Plastic pressing plant using the 'old-er' pre-printed labels they still had by the miles as I believe. That for the Tangerine label they at Plastic kept that design until the end... Other pressing plants with the 'new-er' pre-printed label version were Monarch, Columbia (Terre Haute) and Bell (maybe) I believe... TBC. FWIW only the red'N'white label vinyl copy have Lynn to Len Jewell corrected. The 3 other variants not.

Anglo American Auction Results
Got my black copy as a teen. Cheap usa trip find. Catchy once bought. Bored me on second play. Went to a mod friend I believe. Have had stockers and promos after. A fair sixties 'club' sound in my book for a cheap tag (before) for example. To what I always destined the record when for sale for about £12 to £20 up to early 2000... FWIW I always favored the more "mature" Joshie Jo Armstead I got to realise. It's not always the case but with her I am yet to hear her pre 1968 record that does it for me.

Anglo American Auction Results
OK so a 'high kick' bid not even for a 'rare' sound nor a prized label black or white. Popsike history show a "madness" for the tune or the record at one time around 2015. Likely bids from deep pockets not in the known of records. But all good for Tim's business though. If the white promos that came out about as NOS copies years ago kind of flodded the market with white demos making the black stockers seemingly rare, it's not rare IME. Nor exciting here. Just an okay tune IMO FWIW but nothing never rare nor in demand by the jocks.

What was the catch with Deena Johnson (Simpson 102) to reach £175 ?

...IS THIS A RED LIGHT DISTRICT?!x...I hope not....!x
87 copies from 28 pressings variations (different countries, promos...) on the notorious set-sale site with copies to grab starting at ā¬0.50... Was played on the mod circuit in the early eighties as a "northern-y" tune next to the Jam, Dexies MR or other "pop-soul" thingies like that. It kept on being played a lot on the scooter scene through the decade though. But it's "pop". OK "pop" but "pop" still. Even on a Detroit label.

Sad News - William Hart - The Delfonics RIP
Although it took me ages to really appreciate them for what they are in mellow "sophistication" I now am addicted. Coming prior from the Jamaican music thing before my deeper involvement into American soul music I always knew they were the original artitstry behind such fabulous tracks as done by Alton Ellis with 'la la means i love you' or 'didn't I (blow your mind this time)' by the Cables. Loved these two fab reggae tribute covers. It's only decades later that I gave them a chance while picking them Delphonics cheap 45 up and gave them finally a "real" proper trial home on my MONO phono system. Instead of the passive like radio playing 'oldies but goodies' pathetic trip. Now I really appreciate (maturity ?) to play them home alone or even with friends. Although I find them songs rather "intimate" really for public attendance š„° LOL. Bless you Mr. Hart. +

Northern Sounds on U.S. TV shows
Correction Allert ; my bad as I think that I might have mixed-up that 'your Honor' serie with the 2 years predecessor 'Sharp Objects' (another fabulous yet much more darker or sinister crime intruigue serie) also taking place down south but in Wind Gap, Missouri and not in New Orleans, Louisiana... And that's where I now think Betty Harris 'show it' gets to be heard... I know my records way better than my movies š

Northern Sounds on U.S. TV shows
He's the voice for that Teddy Vann Orchestra 45 allright. Can't say about the whole LP as I never heard it before. Only have my "guilty secret" usa promo copy 45. The whole album must be real tiring. The 45 flip is that already. That voice of James Earl Jones AKA ze Zwartz Farther is 11 years younger than in Ztar warZ. Before he got to lend his voice to Annikin who's vocal chords melted in the tragic battle with Obiwan Kenobi as we all know... š¦Ø

Northern Sounds on U.S. TV shows
Betty Harris 'Show It' (Sansu) in 'your Honor' happening in NoLa (2020). On another level for disastrous credibility in another recent movie (must still remember what movie now) where the hero while passivly flirting is deeply sharing his passion for "good" old music crediting the incomparable soulful vocal genius of a Sam Cook while listening to Eddie and Ernie 'lost friends'... Hopefully for him the girl was not 'in the known' and drank the milk.

Northern Sounds on U.S. TV shows
Yes Likely "stuck" in the head (I still am or was only maybe) a bit too from them greater days before f**cking digital everything where & when you were witnessing or hearing about obscure scenes stuffs unexpextedly it made your neck stood-out. Thrilling ! Because it took a will, an effort and a risk in public exposition to "dig" that out. Where now it's a mere boring 'click' for anybody or almost. Maybe why many, like I, who are a bit dubvious of all that now just don't pay much attention anymore to any of that. Legitimacy comes from/with implication, devotion and credibility. There it is 'exclusive' some l believe. Or at least not disposable to take, borrow and get rid-off so simply or lightly. What any "underground" scene struggles to be preserved from. Or if not die from. Watching the film with little prejudice I got a bit hooked by it before letted down. Found it caricatural some... But the film intent was going for that 'historycal' bit focusing on that band we love. All is "fine" from here IMHO. Only not a movie I remember until here. Reading the soundtrack list now made me realise how much I "forgot" about that film. Because I remember listening to the music then played in there... With some evident "trophee" tunes I now forgot were in there !!! N° Group is all over those American "films" š¤ It's all bizz. On audio forums you get the same 'topics' about phono turntables in movies or series. With vintage gear for the "kool" factor or modern contemporary for adds 'placements'. Trying also to recognize the models to spice things up. Only nothing "exclusive" there š

Wow that is truly a rare find ! A 'poor' condition copy. LOL. I dig your dedication in pursuit of the thruth on here. Another scanner will give another tint of 'blue' FWIW but I'll see if I manage pull out my copy and post on here.
