  1. how much is this actually worth? m
  2. Do you know what? you should simply every year look at the records outside of the initial 500, you don't need to reiterate it for filler, and that approach allows a series of books to grow organically, you add how ever many new records come into or back into vogue as the case generally is in the past year,or how ever long, and explore the unknown things which I'm sure are in your collection, or have been at one time or another... I'd buy a book like that, as a collector, or dancer, or fan, something looking at trends, using the music or specific releases is a great way to chronicle Northern soul, throw in the new venues don't bother with endless lists, just good editorial content, good photography, guest contributors, get these people who have done the dancing on the northern soul film involved, engage with as many newbies as you can as to what they like, and it becomes endless... and stop grovelling to people to buy your book, its not cool.. 3. I think all the Kent 45's are second to none personally, I have the Tommy Tates - If you got to love somebody release which really is a great sound, better than the Grapevine 45, probably even that the original which I think is styrene only... any excuse to mention that record basically...
  4. Remember some people i know from Birmingham, Jodie and Mickey, cant remember their surname... had a white demo in the late 9ts, only one I've ever gazed at, I suppose there are so few of those about you could trace every last one, I think they got that via Mick Smith, as they did allot of big records they had... m
  5. I bought the first and second editions of this book, the first was absolutely brilliant, and I love that book, and it was nice to get that all again in the second, but I have to say I'm simply not convinced Kev that you have done enough in the later editions to justify the asking price, and I mean that without malice, which seems to be something you attract. This is a great book, but you need to write another great book to follow it, and that has to be a new idea, a new book, cause this just seems like a con to me... Any how I found a good use for the second edition since then, Its now a book end propping up a shelf. Looks nice but there is no reason to read it cause I have the first. Mal.C.
  6. Just avery friendly push, folk on here will dig the flip ' Whatcha Gonna Do' but hey killer double sider!! Worth every dollar!!
  7. Just bought this, after chasing it for an age, it's a push but.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ralKoh0hK-A m
  8. Think this also falls into the category nicely, still need this track badly!!
  9. Killer beat Ballad that, there is another good one on the label, Maybe Maybe Baby..the flip of giving up.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0AsttQi_pw Mal.C
  10. Has anybody mentioned Tommy Hunt yet? the hold on track is different on the Atlantic release 45 to that on one of the early Kent LP's, cant remember but one is more of a beat ballad than an out and out ballad, I think.... anyhow they are all F*** Great... also add parade of Broken Heartaches to that list.. mal
  11. Probably get some abuse for this, but might I suggest Lulu - Leave a little Love, which is a real favourite at home, say what you like about Lulu, but she is some singer.. Mal.C.
  12. obviously its very much tongue in cheek, and I meant it as just an excuse to put up lots of Beat ballads...I go out, I buy funk, I'll buy anything as long as I like it, but I LOVE Beat Ballads, I just wished they were a super trendy as they were, or maybe good music does not go out of fashion... just a bit of fun mate.. mal.C
  13. Get in!!! Not on you tube, But a new one to me recently, John Bowie - I Never Felt so Lonely and the flip Fool I Would Be... quality Mal.C
  14. Has this been mentioned on this thread?
  15. Love that Jimmy stokes, would never sell mine.. and this utterly brilliant track below is the sort of music you just cant beat... excuse the pun...

  17. Christ there's me rallying the troops and the first feedback has come out of left field, no idea, does not matter. I Assume you know what it is... And love them, That's all you need to know Richard, list your favourites, and were off..
  18. I know this may go over some people's heads, but before I put forward my little statement, just let me state ill buy anything, if its good...and this is a bit of fun, well kinda... So, we're in 2012, and the 'funky' stuff has been in vogue for some years now, which is kinda crap really because if you collect all styles it always was, However, the mighy Beat Ballad, or serious sixties slowie now seems out of pace, and I F***** hate that!!!! My feeling is There should be a back lash!!! So Brothers and Sisters, Before you buy your next 45 that's got that new trendy forward thinking dj description next to it, think closely, there is no going back, if you turn your back once again and don't choose a sixties beat ballad, the memories will start to fade, let me just list a couple to stirr that memory, and ask you state your allegience below, list em, and list em proud!!!! I Love Sixties Beat Ballads!!!!! George wydell, jimmy helms, wade flemons, tommy hunt, Sam fletcher, Johnny maestro, Kenny carter, Roy Hamilton, Freddy Cole, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gK-JDE3oRl0 Mal.c
  19. I think all of Numero's releases are second to none, I'll be getting this box, and I have a subscription to the labels output which is really worth getting. and in a round about answer to earlier posts, I generally only collect originals, but in recent years I like the old boots and repro's I used to get when I was in my teens, and had no money, I prefer to play some of them over the originals I have to be honest.. Its all good... Mal.C
  20. posted this before, but its in keeping with the thread...
  21. George? he probably has, but it's the existence of a 4th Nolan Porter on Aussie Pink Probe which is the burning question... Mal.
