  1. the Velvet Satins, Spyder turner ! these are both in fair quantity and have been doing the rounds for reasonable money compared to volume ........ i remember paying a few quid many years ago for Danny woods, then it going for daft money, i fell outta the scene and sold my collection, on my return i started bying again and seen a minter on a list for £70. i thought geez thats a bargain and promptly bought it, however the price seemed to have dropped due to 50 or so turning up somewhere ? how come a box of 50 can have so much impact on the value when theres so many others that have many more copies available but hold there price ! some tunes stay in vouge and never drop no matter what quantity yet some really rare stuff is buttons because it is not played ,strange world of northern soul i suppose lol
  2. Found this thread very intresting ,but seeing as it started about a RCA acetate going for silly money on JM,s auction then at some point leading on to reference the tomangoes and Larry clinton RCA acetates, i really do wonder about the validity of these ? . From what ive read i assume there was no original acetate of betty boo other than master tape, however i recall purchasing an orig acetate of larry clinton via Pat brady many years ago so surely this makes a mockery of an RCA acetate ? THE STRANGE WORLD OF NS !

  15. Very intresting reading and what really comes to the fore is that nobody so far has managed to name a record that everybody agrees is complete tripe lol, You cant put the words northern soul and rubbish music in the same sentence as it was a drug fuled dance scene, it was different from anything else it was travelling, dancing, friendship etc so i dont think i ever seen it as a musical wonder in its own right, however nowadays the dance side has mellowed (were all older) i think most listen now rather than just look for a beat to dance to, ..... i think you could take 500 tunes and disect them musically and then 99% of folk would agree that they are rubbish ,however music & northern go together for so many different reasons, we involve memory,s emotions etc which have no bearing on the soulful quality of a record. I,d like to add that most places you go dont have the same numbers etc as the old days or the same ethos, you used to go to a nite and expect to hear loads of new records and embrace them good or bad and that was probably created by the numbers dancing while fueled with drugs, now your on your own and have years of wisdom and taste so its much easier to decide if something is good or bad immedietly where as years ago with a 1000 people in a hall and 700 of them dancing it sorta got u caught up in it, whether or not it was good or bad. Just for the record i hear stuff now that i think is absolute crap that back in the day loved to bits (only because i danced to it ) i suppose looking back it was never a great record but it ticked most of the boxes for a dance beat.......... ive wracked my brains to find an awful record that may just manage to go across the board on the everyone agrees list and all i can come up with is Wakefield sun, Trypt on love ????

  22. I can think of younger days when living for my life was everything that a man would wanna do but i could never see tomorrow i was never told about the sorrow and How can you mend a broken heart, how can you stop rain from falling down, tell me how can you stop the sun from shining, what makes the world go round, how can you mend a broken man how can a loser ever win, tell me how the sun from shining, what makes the world go round ........................... WOW ! AL Greens deliverance of these lyrics is just so potent, they take me somewhere else everytime i hear them, Just a fantastic song IMHO
  23. always used to bye loads of unkowns purely by ear and quality average £10 to £20 lol reckon if i hadent sold them years ago i could have probably bought my house but hey thats the nature of the beast i didnt lose money on them and certainley cant afford to replace them now but for everything ive sold i hear a new quality tune every week that you just gotta bye , it,s just unfortunate that they seem to be so expensive nowadays
