  1. Not many replies to the actual title of the thread - once again it has descended into an oldies v newies battle. Has this topic not been done to death already? Don't go to many Northern venues these days so if anyone wants to tell me what "post sixties" records are being played feel free.
  2. EXACTLY
  3. Only problem I have with DJs pay is when the amount of paying guests dictates the pay you recieve. To me the cost of a night should be calculated on the following:- Cost of venue hire Cost of promotion Cost of Security Staff (if required) Cost of DJs. That is the total "kitty" - the promoter should have this in hand before one person pays any admission price. Have seen quite a few gigs where the promoter is nervously pacing around the entrance hoping 20 more people would arrive so he could afford to pay the DJs without going in to his own pocket. Does he get a reduction in room hire? - NO Do the "bouncers" get a reduction in their fee? - NO Does he ask the DJs to take a smaller fee? Invariably YES. The quick answer to promoters is DO YOUR SUMS.

Used to love hearing this in the 70s & 80s when the thicko mobile jock would play it at wedding receptions - don't think he actually listened to the words. Closely followed by "Young Hearts Run Free" - can just see the tears of the brides mother rolling down her cheeks.

Are you saying if a soul record is remixed badly - it ceases to be a soul record?
  6. YES !
  7. "Dreaming A Dream" - Crown Heights Affair THE ultimate disco record - nothing before or after comes close. IMHO of course
  8. Cheers Brett - Mr Feliciano will always remind me of you & I first meeting each other at Morecambe - now be a good chap & send me an mp3 of that wonderful Frankie Nieves track.

The epitome of quality sixties soul - utterly utterly wonderful. What's not to like?
  10. Picked it up in the seventies for nothing - all my mates have it as well - never going to be big - it's quirkiness is it's charm - like this a lot.

Got a few spins at The Mecca - quite like it myself - but does have a quite pop/disco aspect to it.

Quite simply the finest record ever played on the Northern Soul scene.
  15. If you read the thread carefully you will see that the Coke Escovedo is available on a 7" - albeit on a re-issue. Available for £4.99 off Juno Looks like your bonfire is still flickering.
  16. Yes the re-issues are legal believe. Johnny Bristol version is off his "Feeling The Magic" album from 1975 - great lp - also contains the brilliant Love Takes Tears - done by Margie Joseph as well. Hope this works - enjoy people PS Simon - Great job on the Marvin & Tammi - It's wonderful Johnny_Bristol___I_Wouldn_t_Change_A_Thing_20_.mp3
  17. Song was originally done by Johnny Bristol - that's a nice version as well.
  18. Only came out on Mercury album as far as I know. Came out on a 7inch re-issue a few weeks ago - try Crazy Beat or Juno. Also available on a 12 inch for about 7 quid. Great record!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last chance on this before it goes on Ebay. Will accept £425. OVNO Thanks
  21. It's that different in Australia it's called "There's Some Real Estate In The Outback I May Consider Selling - Sport" (Rolf "Quentin" Harris Mix)
  22. To finally put this to bed I think we are all agreed (apart from Mr Rounce) that whether the tune has been remixed - remastered - recut - redubbed - rejigged - been cleaned with Jif & a brillo pad - it DEFINITELY sounds different. Here endeth the lesson.
  23. All depends on which mix of eggy-weg you are talking about

Mint copy of the much sought after "I Want To Be Love" on Jerri. This vinyl has not been played for nearly 20 years. I am selling this for a mate who left the scene in 1980 & has no interest in tunes like this anymore. Bought as a new release it really is in excellent condition - never been in a sales box or on a mobile disco deck. PM me with realistic offers. Thanks
  25. Millie_Jackson___A_House_For_Sale__1_.mp3 Does this not sound different to the other clip on this thread?
