Question - Were the Funk Brothers funky or northern? Listen to Willie Mitchell - "The Champion" it's funky as hell, Or any popular Junior Walker tune - FUNKEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
  2. I both attend & DJ at Northern, Crossover & Soulful Dance nights & I love them all - it's the only way for me.
  3. Sounds like "Your Wish Is My Command" by The Inspirations.
  4. Some really interesting comments - think the bottom line is that like all the "possesions" you acquire throughout your life you must always remember that you are only borrowing them. So enjoy 'em .
  5. "Fool" - Al Matthews & of course the brilliant "Walk Away From Love" - David Ruffin
  6. Any collector who is feeling "off colour" this weekend send me all your vinyl at a vastly reduced price. Your next of kin will then avoid death duties & inheritance tax. This offer is open to all - free of charge. "Epic- The Philanthropist"
  7. He's on at Leeds Carling Weekender believe you can catch him on Sound Stage Seven!!!!!!!!
  8. He could end up............................."Lonely......................... truly lonely"
  9. What will happen in 30 years time? Will our offspring be able to cash them in? Or will they just become part of a house clearance?
  10. Personal opinion about collecting rare records is if you want it & can afford it - buy it. The only person you have to please with your purchase is yourself. Just 'coz somebody may purchase the same record at a lesser price it should not diminish your love of the said tune. Sam Dees - great record if not a tad played out. Oxford Nights - rare yes - same class as Sam Dees - not even close.
  11. It's the friendliness on this scene that makes it all worthwhile - Right On - BROTHERS Think I'm gonna start collecting records on the BACKBITE label.
  12. Think it's what the midwife said to Mrs Hussein about little Saddam.
  13. "Forever & A Day" - Mel & Tim They don't come any longer than that
  14. I have an American 7" of "The Love I Lost" - Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes weighing in at 6 minutes 6 seconds.
  15. Mike perhaps we should close every topic after the first reply - that would make for interesting reading wouln't it? Genuinely I never intended to attack or insult anybody personally & it is unfair for you to suggest it. I have given an opinion - sorry if I may have offended anybody.
  16. I do not profess to know the age of any member of this forum - indeed I think the scene does need younger people on it. How do we encourage them to join it? Don't think playing fourty odd year old records (in the main) will see them flocking. I was not bragging about 1974 & it is nonsense to even suggest I was- it was just to highlight the fact that records then are still filling the dancefloors now Some people read but don't see.
  17. Think the modern soul thing has been done to death - as usual the people who don't like it have the most to say. Problem is if they are fed "same old.same old" all the time & the thought of opening their minds to something new or different is beyond their comprehension. Where will your musical heads be in 20 years time - probably back where they were in 1974. For Christs sake move on. PS - Love Factory is over 30 years old - it was a modern record ONCE.
  18. "I'm Waiting" - Bill Bush it has a fault all through the record - seems to stop when you break it in half though.
  19. Been playing it at Family Tree nights - getting a good response - Bah Samba mix is the only one to play. The Cheryl Lynn - "Got To Be Real" sample bubbling away in the background gives the record its appeal.

I would suggest the coat you get has long sleeves & buckles round the back.

Anybody wishing to hear & learn more about soulful house why not get yourself down to Lytham Football Academy on Saturday June 3rd where DJs Pete Haigh, Steve Naylor, Andy Lett & Kevin Priest will be spinning the choons. We are long time soul devotees who go way back to the Blackpol Mecca days of '73/'74 & not some "wet behind the ears" 140 bpm whippersnappers. Be assured the accent as always will be on SOUL . Try it - you might like it. Email www.famtree2005@yahoo.co.uk . .
  22. Available at juno.co.uk on a seven & jolly good it is too.
