OK if we're doing 'confessionals' Mark I played it out at an oldies do in Cambridge last year
  2. Don't spoil it for me Ian, I haven't seen it yet. Steve
  3. Ok couple of things. I prefer Saturday. The risk of a Sunday is some dealers may go home after their gigs / be too knackered. October? Blimee before the clocks go back please Mark. Steve

See to me Lou Pride is just a fabulous 45. Overplayed sure. But the energy and mayhem on the record is just awesome. Then there's the story about how he rung his g/f and was missing her, so wrote the song one night....then there's the Hi / royal Studios connection. Then there's the fact, I saw one at Wigan in 77, but at £35 it was totally outside of my price range and had to wait another 10 years to get one. Then there was the fact that Lou was a really great guy, with a long pedigree and someone who'd never been given the breaks he deserved in the biz. Whilst I probably wouldn't play I.C.H.I.T.M out, or want to hear some DJ spin it, I'd never ever sell it or hear a bad word said against it.
  5. Perhaps she'll organise a "northern night" to get the local dignitaries attending. Chips N gravy and Dustbin Stanley; that'll work
  6. I understand the background music will include a track by "Edwin Star"
  7. Yes and yes. Humphrey Stomp scan at the weekend prob. As far as records are concerned I'll travel all over to try and find vinyl. We never know where the next good record is going to come from...

Hi Joel, Don't worry mate, most of the youngbloods are creating their own scenes and not engaging with us old time "Waldorf & Statlers" And quite right that they should as well, I mean what self respecting youngster would want to be hanging out with a load of old pot bellied baldies in fancy dress harking back to the 1970s (and that's just the women ) . It's a bit like imagining us lot (not you Joel I realise you are a bit younger :)in the 70s trying to hang round with a load of codgers who were teenagers in the mid 1930s before World War 2, it just wouldn't happen except down the local Legion maybe. Thank goodness the music is built to transcend generations.
  9. If you get here today Butch is on in Islington tonight along with Leona and the gang. Would be good to see you...I believe it's up in events or if it ain't it's on FB. ATB Steve

Correct a wind up. Joel is a good fisherman, reels em in all the time

Have to agree with Spanish Dave re "Fascinating girl". About as "fascinating" as yesterdays left over Cat food to my ears.
  13. Yeah please let us know what it's like. As well as his Mercury 45age I also got something by him on APO (Art Pohemeuis's local label) I seem to recall before he became famous.
  14. I know it's not going to help you but he's still alive and living in the south (he doesn't have any of his records anymore). Quite a turn as a live act back in the day!
  15. Not a dealer / seller but I'll come along for a rummage through all the boxes. Found some interesting bits last time
  16. Yes they're both very good live. Sharon last time I saw her did a 2 hour show, I have no idea how many pounds weight she must have lost doing that. Hot and sweaty. Talking of which are you joining us for a beer tonight?
  17. should be easy enough to find I've have thought.

I agree with you. Superb, but I don't want to hear it out. And such a tragic story about the non Maggie Bell (?) singer (Johnny?) geting knocked off his moped and dying. But on the plus side it has denied us the horrific prospect of some promotor putting them on as a "live act" at a weekender and them doing a 15 minute version
  19. Hi Lenny, Funny thing is her live shows are the nearest thing you'll find now to an authentic 60s type show, with MC, tight band dancing as they play etc. Great atmosphere. Much as we love him dearly, a different league to dear old Snake Davis and the gang.
  20. Sharon is DYN-O-MITE. Her live shows are fabulous and a great night out. I have an automatic standing order of 1 x everything she puts out. What surprises me is seemingly how few traditional soul fans seem to rate her. The last time I saw her live I was about the oldest person in the house . Can it be because her records aren't rare?
  21. Hi Benji, I think there is an issue knocking about. Label went bust of course so it never got out properly but I am sure someone (Adam possibly) had an issue.

And that's the tragedy. A lot of em are pretty good records, but honestly I am so friggin bored of hearing them. I've got virtually all of them, and I NEVER play them. They just sit there doing nothing. Frankly if you know all the words to a song, it's time to move on to another one. This is a good point. Those that put WC on a pedestal as the "ultimate of ultimates" need to keep this in mind. There was a clamour to play new stuff, and a few DJs aside (Richard etc.) most others couldn't keep up with the frequency. But it was a money spinner and a good "thang" for the guys running (and coining) it. Most of us were just kids who were caught up in the atmosphere / vibe, "KTF" "We're not divvies" etc. I am even pretty sure I danced to Helen Shapiro and Burning Bush - yikes! Until I realised.....

Tom Moulton's first production he says.
  24. Interestingly I've never heard the B side. The copies I junked in london in the early 80s for 10p were demos with "AICD" on both sides.
  25. ....and there was me about to offer you $5 to take it off your hands for curiousity sake. We could always ask Chuck if he knows of it. Maybe it was just a novelty thing that was given out at an event or something? Done quite a bit of research on Al Browne, which is why I made the connection, but have to say I had never heard of this one before. Seems from what I can make out there was a reasonable independent record scene in Brooklyn which is odd since it's so close to Manhattan. You'd be forgiven for thinking there would be nothing there record wise. Steve
