  1. Aha..... And the Manchester banner wavers are?
  2. OK Ian, something YOU have learnt today as well. Ha ha.... ..................anyway back to OV etc - anyone else got anything to say on that subject? Or are we done?
  3. If you google it Ian there seem to be copies for sale
  4. Yes it was Dobie Gray, but it took me a long time to work out.
  5. But why would you cash in there - unless to make a tax loss? :phoar: I mean it's one of the remotest places in the UK isn't it. Full of bikers and Bagpipe nights.....Is there a colony of ex Casino-goers living on the Highland Islands or sumething? We should be told, as on it's face this is the most ridiculous location for an event.
  6. Thanks, yes I do have these blind spots...I have the books at home but do most of this stuff not from home. Another blind spot was an uptempo dance record called "Find em fool em forget em" played on Radio 1 when I was in the 3rd / 4th year at school.
  7. Wasn't Soul Fox a Soussan label.....?
  8. Released on a 1968 UK Motown LP I wonder why did it take until 1970s to get "discovered" then
  9. I left school in 77, but by then had done the Wigan thing, bought pressings and discovered original vinyl.
  10. Think that logic is flawed Ian. If Levine played it, others would have searched out copies and the demand would still have built up - same as with other Motown things that became northern hits.
  11. OK, I'll take your word on that as I was a nipper then, but why would MFP / Sounds Superb put out an album by R Dean Taylor - most odd, as hardly anyone would have heard of him.
  12. Am only pulling your leg.
  13. Thought all or most of the Masqueraders were basically truckers and have been for some time
  14. Think the point Phil is that the label is a copy of the Parkway design used in the 60s - no doubt designed to make it more attarctive. Do Universal own that too? Label artist royalties is the issue I guess.
  15. Yeah I have some sympathy for it. It was one of the first "northern" sounds I ever heard - something very exciting, dark and underground about it that went against the grain of what Stevie Wonder etc was doing caused me to dig deeper and find out more. Sure it sounds pretty naff now, but back in the day it was quite an influencial side.
  16. Really? Did he do the hiring and firing? Could you imagine Sam arguing with him about the ins and outs of rare soul 70s and 60s drying up? I thought Harry Green was more interested in race horses?
  17. The MFP album by R Dean Taylor "Indiana wants me" with a map as a background was directly as a result of the success of "There's a "ghoostie in ma hoosie". But that was the worst one of the lot. I remember playing it and thinking "Oh my God this Motown stuiff ain't all good". Even the Supremes one (the next worst one) had "He's all I got" on it - one of their finest moments. How do I know all this? - well as a 14 year old these LPs seemed like a good way of finding out about Motown and soul for 99p - pocket money and all that.
  18. Don't worry it's 45 rpm
  19. It was to be a TV series, though not sure if it actually came out.
  20. Now you are trying to be too clever Paul , I will need to check my copy but think it does play at 45 even if it's on a 12" The better question to ask is was this actually "issued" on vinyl? Or was it promo only
  21. Yeah but they f*cked them up - horrible stereo tracking on them. They always sounded awful on a home stereo

  23. So has the scent gone cold then? Sam reckoned at the time that he was sacked for playing totally 70s and his letter to Black Echoes (as yet unre-printed). He would of course know as presumably he'd have been called in to an office at the Casino to see Russ for a "chat" and to have the reasoning explained. Sounds like the banner and the petitions are red herrings, though they may have added fuel to the fire.
  24. Oh yea - I am getting as forgetful as Ian D
  25. Sean says it was played at wigan 73/74. Cracking piece of Motown too.
