  1. Ah more sarcasm methinks.....or are you "declaring" as the first C.R.A.P DJ? you may start a new trend you know
  2. You are doing a pretty good job of advertising your venue my friend.
  3. I've been to a few nighters where the boots have been out in force. Agree on the OVO on fliers.
  4. Oh please spare me "the punters don't mind" stuff Di. All DJs play some OVO as far as I can see (unless some play all bootlegs ), but the basic premise is that DJs sHould be booked who have the actual legitimate records to entertain the crowd - not Harry Ramsbottom and his box of pressings of big Wigan sounds. If the promotor doesn't have the DJs that have these on OV, then they've got the wrong DJ's.
  5. Happy to do my piece, but thinking might have moved on - maybe the better option is to have a DJ charter - since some promotors have already told me they don't know what the dj's play on the night. So DJ's could sign up to OVO ........or not.
  6. I know. The punters I guess - but don't want it to get like a police state . Perhaps have a DJ charter then - Djs that sign up to playing OVO - that'll sort the wheat from the chaff.
  7. Yeah I can see that too.
  8. I know, but it's easy to get hung up on these things and it all to become a bit anal. As said to Simon M really looking at venues that play 70s pressings of wigan biggies and recent reissues of previously issued stuff. No problem with previously unreleased stuff either - e.g. Hesitations last year Kent 45 - absolutely needed to be played at all venues and hasn't been played enough.
  9. Never been a great fan of DR Ian - read too much negative stuff about her over the years and her voice was way too sugary for me. But "More today than yesterday" was an outstanding pop record. I even like the instrumental version on Cotillion. Are you saying the album sold on the strength of this track alone?

Yes mine plays mint too. think you've just been unlucky Mark - one of the hazards of getting your records at boot fairs I guess Seriously most copies are fine.
  11. This is a serious discussion Simon - away with your Pendulum and Marshall copies the real challenge would be something like Al Mason - where the 12" came well before the 7" and then later still the singer himself legitimately reissued it. Probably all 3 formats acceptable on that one. What we're really getting at though is venues that have jocks playing styrene boots from the 70s of big W*gan tunes and recent reissues of previously released stuff.
  12. I think if someone has made a couple of carvers of LP tracks so that they don't have to cart an LP box around - probably still OVO. I put a few of my cover ups on carvers - saves on sellotape and protects the original.
  13. Thread for listing venues that play: Original Vinyl Only (OVO) CD's , Reissues and Pressings. (C.R.A.P) I'll start off Letchworth Irish Centre - OVO And also discussion on original vinyl, reissues etc.
  14. Ha ha John, but true enough. Maybe time for some "terrorist" tactics - when we see a northern venue advertised that we KNOW allows CDs, Reissues And Pressings (C.R.A.P venues), we start asking questions about the musical format on the thread and whether bootlegs are to be played. Harsh steps but I think neccesary punter direct action to redress the balance a bit.
  15. I have been reliably informed that in some parts of the country (e.g. parts of Mids, Northants etc) it would be easier to list the venues that play originals only. And they are........
  16. Another thought - can we start a list of venues that play these boots and CD reissues. just so we can avoid them. I hear a lot about them but don't know which ones they are. Perhaps if we categorised all northern venues as OVO (Original Vinyl Only) and CRAP (CDs, Reissues and pressings)
  17. Yes there are a number of nights like that. Feel the layout of a venue has a part to play here too as well as the other reasons already mentioned.
  18. Much as I'd love that to be the case, I just don't see it.
  19. Yes odd that - think they were so out of left field and unlike everything else they were getting programmed on radio / mtv etc they might have found a niche under the 'gimmicky' banner.
  20. ....and I'm afraid they are probably right. look at what the big hits are in the USA - christian fundamentalist "no sex until we're 50" boy bands, C&W crapola, thrashy metal, power ballads and gimmicky rap / hip hop. In 3 words - Soul don't sell. It's been that way for years.
  21. Did you try and place it with a major?
  22. Hmmmm quite crackly too.....
