  1. Grapevine singles aren't bootlegs Simsy - thought you would have known that The point about boots has been well made; we certainly don't play them round this way thank God. Hopefully none played at gigs round your way either Ian
  2. Oh yes. The only positive I take out of it is that at last a few others are starting to see that Mr Taylor is hopeless..still looking forward to Dickoff in our shirt - he might install some of the passion that's so clearly missing from the bench.
  3. Easily the rarest one on the label. Yes a complete mix, it was a fun label to collect because there are so many numbering series. When I did the article I missed out the Mar J's and the Tornadoes
  4. i wouldn't have thought so.
  5. Yes I did collect it and did an article in Shades of soul on this very label. Yes got Trackdown - prefer the other side.

Ha I think all Ted Jarrett stuff counts......
  7. Yup all their stuff is worth it. Classic group soul.

It IS the same label Andy- just an earlier iteration.
  9. hi Matt - you got the Gerri Grainger version? It's wonderful and can be picked up quite cheaply.
  10. It doesn't have to have been played at clubs at the time to be a classic Motown record Rod. Exactly the same as "It's a shame" The Spinners - no doubt not played "Up norf" at the time as being "too slow" - but it's a classic none the less.
  11. Classic motown record.
  12. A classic and it was banned as a new release by the radio stations, as they though it was encouraging promiscurity amongst the young. Laughable now but it was only 50 years ago....
  13. They also recorded as "Child of Friendship train Robbers" - what a mouthful, and what does that mean?
  14. Yup great On the romantic front "Don't make hurting me a habit" On the badass front Blowfly "Girl can I c*m in your mouth" on the rebound "Catch me I'm falling" on the ballsy front "Drop your heart off at the door"
  15. Didn't Millie Jackson do one called "Sh1t on your finger"
  16. Actually not a bad record and it's had a few spins too....
  17. Do ya mean The Train Robbers? - fantastic group out of St Pete - under the tutelege of joe Quarterman - every one of their records is fakin' awesome Next one...... "Oops! it just slipped out" Another one is "Robbing Peter to pay Paul" Then there's "Doin' it (cause it feels good)"

I think most copies came from Cal who was a member of the group and had the copies in his garage. I had the privilege of interviewing him on Soul 24-7. He had some great stories about touring round towns in Texas and some of the amazing things that went down, like getting chucked in jail by red neck sherrifs, getting jackie wilson out of jail etc etc. Toronado was a type of car (Ford I think), and they came out of Tx State University .hence the name ..in case anyone is wondering. Cal's ded now
  19. Got a Darryl Stewart record in the lock up on Musicor called something like "One monkey don't monkey with another monkey's monkey" - which translated means don't mess with your mates gal
  20. Following on from the T Jaye thread, let's have some great titles in soul music. Apart from Carl Marshall's "Lets go humpin" what else is out there..... "Just fell apart at the dreams" by Dorothy Moore for one....next?

Yes one of the great titles in soul music - oh no new thread coming on
  22. Are the punters REALLY that judgmental round your way . "No I haven't got it with me, I only bought a 200 box" - does not equal crap DJ. I always try and engage people who ask me for something i don't have with me, example being the other friday someone asked me for a 4 Tops record which I didn't have (obviously got it at home, not in the box) - we ended up agreeing to play something Motown - which I could do - punter happy, dancefloor happy, me happy...As a DJ if you got a personality it's not usually that difficult. We've all had the odd nutty punter, but they are the exception rather than the rule. Steve
