Walter Wilson - believe there was a contractual dispute which meant that it didn't get distributed and was "pulled" after being pressed up. Quite often with Wand they'd try a record in one city only, so they'd send all the promos to the local A&R man to distribute - if he didn't bother, they'd languish in his basement until he threw them all out. This accounts for several Wand "rarities" (and presumably Scepter label as well). Steve
  2. That's more like it Simsy. PS you on at this BS alldayer?
  3. My Kapp isn't blue, but the A is red....also an original. Steve

Same thing with the Magnificents "There can be a better way". Flip it over Simon!

Brewster Crew "I'm one who knows" has a vastly superior sweet soul flip.

It's time you knew! (that's the title of the record btw) Yeah those hotboxers are missing so much QUALITY allright..... A couple of quick additions: David Sea "When did I start to stop loving you" flip of "Night after night" Bessie Banks on Volt - stunning "The soul of a woman" B side of "It didn't take much" Percy Wiggins I could go on......

Right, and we've discussed the various reasons for rarity on here before. Don't think anyone's suggesting they only pressed up 2-3 copies are they?, more that for whatever reason (pressing fault, contractual dispute, death etc etc.) the record never got out in any quantity. No one's mentioned Walter Wilson yet?

Nice, and one of my few remaining Wand wants - good to know there's a few out there! Steve

Yes, agree - nice x-over sound and one of the 'missing numbers'.

Is this rare? Yes got this. Steve

Make that 3 copies Chalkmeister - had it for years and never played it out.
  12. Agree 100%. There is absolutely no need to remix this side......obviously some people have too much time on their hands Incidentally Simon got very defensive when I criticised the remix of Sisters Love that Levine had done, same thing applies there - leave the classics alone.
  13. Got this in NY years ago - $10 from one of those Bleeker Bob type guys down in Greenwich.
  14. There was a boxful of Lew Kirton "Heaven in the afternoon" 12s in a shop in Holborn in the late 70's. They were 50p each and part of the TK overstock wholesale dumping that went on. As I had only just started work I was pretty poor, but quite liked the sound of it so got one and started playing it locally in Kent. Wish I'd got the whole box full now, if only to sell on Steve

Top album from a top singer! All the tracks are good even "Love formula 69" and "We ought to be doin' it" and Randy was such a complete tart when it came to the ladies too. One of his 9 Chains sides also came out on another label- I remember it being green but cannot for the life of me remember what the label was called without checking back at the ranch. I also like his later Sound Town stuff too.......even the Christmas record! Steve
  16. Hi Gareth glad you got this - would have checked, but I see others have beaten me to it- class record btw. Steve

Yeah, agree a very watchable film. Didn't it also capture Ruffin gatecrashing the groups gigs mid flow after he'd "gone solo"? Which I did read about somewhere....Steve

Yes, good old days - I remember the next DJ looking absolutely disgusted at the record - wouldn't do that now!

Collectors??? I was explaining to someone at the weekend that this is very different to the 70s and 80s. Sometimes back then promotors would regularly "view" the floor and 'lambast' anyone foolish enough to play something that didn't pack the floor. Fortunately those days are gone, but it was always fun (and still is) to go out on a limb so to speak. Remember finishing up a set at The Fleet once early 80s with a slower record C L Blast "Love don't feel like love no more" (Cotillion) - cheap and great, and it virtually cleared the floor, because it's a bit southern and slower. Tony Clayton or Brian Rae (can't remember which now) was on after me and started with Wakefield Sun "Trypt on Love", and the floor was full again - that just about summed it all up nicely.....

Probably £700 ish - maybe a bit more. I have seen it for sale occasionally, but it is quality 60s.
