  1. Personally I don't give a d**n whether you're young, old or somewhere in between. I did the 7 year apprenticeship, was corrected on my mistakes and doffed my cap to my elders and betters. That was how it was then, all part of it, but it was authentic and real. Hats off to newbs if they have found soul music on the internet or wherever and who cares how you got into it. Don't really feel the need to be falling over myself, doffing my cap to the younguns though, good show n'all and it matters not a fig if it's arse about face, who cares!.

I like that mate, well said. Nothing changes, the scene goes on, the music goes on and evolves, dancers come and go. Few people I have heard say they hate soul music, though granted I wouldn't be the best person to say that to, but generally speaking a good soulful vocal and beat is difficult to keep your feet still. Ergo dancing - and the show goes on.. Keeps on burning ting well I hope so and can I still get at least a hundred and fifty quid a pop for my RCA Victor demo's before I pop off?

This made me smile this morning when I saw your post telling us we're 'whiney soul snob bastards' - yet this/we is the scene you claim to love? I get your point, I understand and agree in essence, but I think Kev got it right when he said something to the effect of it's not representative of NS, just a snappy tune with well choreographed dancers in fancy dress, before we get carried away. I saw the performance, liked it. Like the song also. At 47 I'm a spring chicken. I won't say I've got shoes older than you, but what I would say is these old timers pushing sixty are the originators, the creators and I have and have always had a tremendous amount of respect for their knowledge and experience. Pay me no mind, I'm just a moany old bastard and I do appreciate your passion, but your original posting just defecates a smidge on those that have been there and done it (for real). Keep doing what you're doing, I won't say keep on keeping cods. Hey and no badges! We don't need no stinking badges!

Really though? I mean really Mark...? Had Ginger foxed and he's no slouch. Well he's a tremendous slouch, but look that's beside the point. You know the point old stick - polygraph for mark!

I need to have a look at the 100 set IL did, rave reviews on some of those tracks. Thanks for posting.

A very well thought out post there! So an NS track with an unquestionably danceable beat and soulful vocal and that is crap is it? How did/does Tony Galla ever get plays.. What of Joey Delernzo??

Chalky said there are plenty of records folk would rather re-energise than this. That said there are plenty of records that are way crappier than wrong side of town, which in my opinion and plenty of others if they were honest, is a good record.

I've got a feeling there's a rounder more heartier clap in the North than here in the flaky South.

If I could go back to my optimum clapping time, it would be at the Fleet in 85' and Freddie Chavez would be the coolest clapper, closely followed by Jerry Williams. I'm just glad I was there when clapping was still with the majority. Simsy's Proposed NS Decade Clapometer; 1977 - 98% 1987 - 78% 1997 - 58% 2007 - 38% Save our claps, keep the fist ..

Anything that raises clapping awareness is a good thing Len. We'll never get the old days back, but lest we forget..
  14. I was going to say Jean Carter - I wanna know on DECCA, but it's on there! One off Decca acetates on YouTube, whatever next!

Wow my old clapping thread, I'd forgotten about this.. Reading the posts it seems that we're (mostly) still keen on clapping during a record. Though the reality still seems to be - that bloke over there starts it earnestly, then half a dozen or so others join in until it fizzles out. In the old days there were hundreds of us clapping in unison and that is what made the hair on the back of your hair etc..
  16. Being a soft Southerner and save for the beloved 100 Club, you have to head North for good music. There sure ain't no recognised 'Southern Soul' term/scene.. One of my faves was the Prestatyn trip a few years back. Saturday night only, lets head on up and see the Hesitations original line up! Only it wasn't the original line up, one was dead, one was a woman. After a brief kip in the car, we fecked off home. Things we do for soul?
  17. Merry Christmas to the Soul Source Team and all of our Members.

Collections usually never come easy, same for all of us. I'd rather have an insurance payout and no records than no records and no payout though.
