    The Pinetoppers: Johnny Jenkins in foreground, Pat T. Cake on drums and Otis Redding with mike. In 1959, Otis sang at the Grand Duke Club. In 1960 Redding began touring the South with Johnny Jenkins and The Pinetoppers. With this group he made his first recording in 1960 as Otis and The Shooters.

  10. On questioning my 11 year old daughter, "what's your favourite northern soul record"? She replied, "none". On questioning one's spouse she said "the one with the telephone at the beginning". This turned out to be 9 Times by the Moments. Daughter then says "oh yeah that one's quite good". I told her she'd made her decision and couldn't glom on to her mother's choice.
