  1. After staying up to the wee smalls and in doing so, incurring a late kick off to Mums day, I've done it. I now have the best cd I have ever owned. Most of the compilation cd's I own are 60-70% yawn worthy. Reaching for the 'next' button for that fave tune. I want an ultimate faves cd and here it is. There is nothing crap on here, every one of them is a rise out of your seat and head for the floor sharpish type tune (imo). I know pete.s would think Lew Kirton and the Vanguards are just offal and that's furry muff, I'm a 90% 6t's head myself. But here goes. It's a corker! 1. Roy Roberts - Gotta have your love 2. Mello Souls - We can make it 3. Jerry Jackson - It's rough out there 4. Ben E King - Getting to me 5. Minzi Berry - Don't you dare to cry 6. Lamont Dozier - Dearest one 7. Charles Brandy - Can't get enough of you baby 8. Jimmy Radcliffe - The thrill of loving you 9. Patti & the Emblems - It's the little things you do 10. Spencer Wiggins - Lonely man 11. Hytones - You don't even know my name 12. Troy Dodds - Trying to find my baby 13. Rockmasters - Raining teardrops 14. Ralph Graham - She just sits there 15. Fiats - Speak words of love 16. Tamala Lewis - You wont say nothing 17. Paul Sindab - I was a fool 18. Imperial C's - Someone tell her (slow version) 19. Lew Kirton - Heaven in the afternoon 20. Vanguards - Good times bad times 21. Trends - Not too old to cry 22. Rose St John & the Wonderettes - I know the meaning 23. Antellects - Love slave 24. George Smith - I've had it 25. Fascinators - In other words 26. Freddie Houston - Chills & fever Anything offensive? Any crap iyo? I Need to try not to play it to death, but oh boy bath times gonna be a doozie! Assume most have mp3 cd capability. If not let me know. Not been to a do since Luton 100 Club next week - "get in"! Followed by Plinston, Scenesville then Crossfire

Ha ha, class Time to turn, indeed. Do think the dj playing the unissued acetate is exciting and indeed - all part of it .
  5. Simsy replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
Yeah to some degree. Depends on what's said, "ere we go with an unissued masterpiece".... Honest. To say nothing? Thats another matter

Exactly right, wise words from Chalky. If a dj goes to the vault and discovers something original - master tape etc. Cut's an acetate, with permission. that's 'our' discovery and has every right to be played. Was Melba Moore's Magic touch ever issued? Can't recall.

    The Soul Police!
  9. Me neither. Some of my mates wimped out early ninetees and I bought some of their sounds. Needless to say they are back and I still get calls "did I sell you Tony Middleton"?!
  10. Roy Hamilton - You shook me up - Crackin up - Reach out for me - Earthquake

I agree with this sentiment. What constitutes a rip off? I pay between £8 for a soul night £10 for allnighter - £12 Crossfire and they are all worth it. It isn't really my concern of how much profit a promoter makes, as stated I'm just glad there are nights we can go to.
  12. Jay & the Americans - Living above your head Chapter Five - You can't mean it Dean Parrish - Bricks broken bottles & sticks
  13. No it's for real! She's a legit councillor. Perhaps that's why she's got where she is today. No one meets Councillor Kinnear and forgets it in a hurry
  14. Not wrong Paul. Reminds me of the lab safety glasses we used to wear at school. Also looks like she's wearing some low grade billy bob teeth!
  15. Not sure yet, waiting to hear from ticket dude. " that gypo Reyes" ha ha, weirdo needs to sling his hook - madrid pref...
  16. Could you help settle an argument I'm having? Can you check out Councillor Eileen Kinnear, Harrow on the Hill Conservative. Is she wearing glasses or not? https://www2.harrow.gov.uk/mgMemberIndex.asp
  17. Wigans Ovation Skiing in the snow Billy Watkins - Iceman
  18. Don't remember toothbrush, pink or purple. Do remember a modesque sixties club called DJ's. Always remember this dude trying some silly dance whilst wearing trainers and his lower leg turning whilst the thigh part didn't. Making a mess of his knee ligaments!!! Yuk, not nice, but neither a thing your forget.

Yeah soul club, top tip. That reminds me, Nick's history next to soul club in my favourites https://freespace.virgin.net/nickrennie.1/m...tracksearch.htm
  20. 1981-82 ska 2 tone mod revival Quadrophenia, lead to Motown and Dobie Gray out on the floor etc, started going to clubs like the YMCA in Chelmsford, Dedicated Soul Club - 3 Cups, also Chemsford 1983 run by Brian Rae if memory serves. Went on from there, Loughborough, St Ives, Fleet Peterborough, 100 Club. Fantastic scene 22 years and can't believe I still seem to get more passionate each year! Hi Dan, Don't know too much about funk/dance/hip hop really. Went from Motown to the rarer stuff (as well) a number of years back and not much else has had a look in since. Anyway, this site has a great sound gallery with a goodly number of sounds and live broadcasts, soul do's etc to listen to. As far as price guides and so on there are a few. There's Kev Roberts' Northern Soul Top 500 available from Goldmine and also a newer price guide available from the same place. Lists either by email or through the post are good to keep yourself updated with prices etc. Rob Messer's Hip City list is worth checking out. Also Shifty's Raving Mad Records provide the creme de la creme of soul £4k+ items regularly. Pat Brady's list is great, been around for years. John Manship has a top list/auction site every week. www.raresoulman.co.uk People say he's dear but his records are always in great nick and he's knows a shedload about bootlegs. There are many more lists and sites, but this place, Google searches etc on the above and Ebay will see you right for starters. Good luck matey. Keep the faith. Simsy
