£25 And Under Dj Sets
Thanks Nev, Yeah it was a very good night - Another 1 in April, with much thanks to Steve too for taking the risk as it might have been a flop (though I know it wouldn't have been ) Wrote a little article too re its conception which underpins the content of this thread -https://www.soul-source.co.uk/articles/soul-articles/£2500-and-under-the-challenge-r2929 It was done in London before I did it at D.S, as the link above points out, but D.S offers a space to do different things, which is nice but I'm also doing to do it for the European Soul Weekender with the European DJ's, which will be interesting (maybe a little session between the nighters)... more info to follow very soon.

Eddie Parker Awake How Many Copies
To bookend this interesting discussion with a 'speculative' answer given the knowledge imparted here, no one would be surprised if there were over 100 copies?
-
Eddie Parker Awake How Many Copies
Potentially 300,000 worth given away for £1 or less!

Eddie Parker Awake How Many Copies
All very interesting, had I not asked, I'd have thought there was only about 10-15 copies... so the appeal is in having what some call the 'ultimate' soul record, which of course is the general, but not universal sentiment. Funny isn't it, because I heard it so many times on CD when I was younger - before going out/buying records - that i'm not that bothered by it. I also know it might be because I never had that collective experience shared with others on the dance floor of hearing it for the very first time - wondering what it was, how to get it etc...bloody CD's!

Eddie Parker Awake How Many Copies
Are these ex-pats Flynny, or Japanese collectors?
-
Eddie Parker Awake How Many Copies
Just to satisfy my curiosity - how many of these are there? I know its hard, I know it goes for BIG bucks, I saw the one that went for auction this year/last...but what we talking, and is there an exact number - can they be traced like other records where you know XYZ has one. good luck Dennis, you keep plugging away mate.

Posh Venues ..soul Nights
I put the first Manchester European Soul Weekender on at The Palace Hotel, Manchester, that was a nice space. https://d2jxsuoefzj3jw.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2013/07/PalaceHotelWeddings_1700-1700x776.jpg The reception was nice too... https://d2jxsuoefzj3jw.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/sites/21/2013/07/Reception1New-1700x999.jpg

Bad Seller?
What is the persistent problem with France? (this isn't a loaded question btw). I've haven't had a problem personally, however, I'm always conscious, maybe even slightly worried that they'll be a problem. Now as I say,I've had no direct issues, but you become aware of posts like these, general comments by others re French sellers and issues with delivery/payment/postage (if outward bound from blighty) on Facebook and specifically on eBay where a seller says WILL NOT POST TO FRANCE OR XYZ...but FRANCE is always there, or if buying from France, please PM first... I think there has been a few grumbles on here over the years too re French sellers or accounts (because one is in France is not to assume one is French before any Frenchmen tell me off). Good luck Peter, hope you get the £ or the record.

ah, was it you who was going on about their love for the word or label design' of slew? Yes, play away old boy and if you find a copy, let me know. Rather Slew than Roulette. In the meantime, PM's still welcome.

One Century Of Records Labels
Just spotted, Newcastle University are having a conference re record labels: mapping places, stories and communities of sound Can't see any more info, but i'm on my phone - nice idea though - be interesting to see if there is any contributions from archivist, collectors and professionals from industry. Best, Gary https://webstore.ncl.ac.uk/browse/extra_info.asp?compid=1&modid=2&deptid=9&catid=49&prodid=334

Boco - Running The Mardi Gras - Laughing Eye Ex
Boco - Running The Mardi Gras - Laughing Eye EX £850 with insured/recorded postage. A monstrously fierce and dark sounding New Orleans soul/funk/folk/psych dancer that is making waves at some of the forward thinking UK venues and one or two in Europe. Wickedly haunting intro that builds into a series of heavy funk breaks. In the boxes of a handful of UK DJ’s and sounds MEGA on a big system. EX condition — much better than the last few which have surfaced. Slight noise on the run in (as they all have, so I’m aware) then plays through impeccably. Perfect shin on the vinyl — label is perfect. Paypal as gift or add 4% from Europe I bought it for the flip, which is called Smile — folk/psych gem, a real top tune!! Best Gary
