Dennis Edwards - I Dont Know How Too
I mean across the scene. I agree it is a fabulous double sider but it simply, to me, doesn't seem to have caught on like it should have. Plenty of DJ's seem to have a copy but seem reluctant to play it with any regularity.

Dennis Edwards - I Dont Know How Too
Hi Kev, I meant turned up over here 1991. As Andy mentioned the first o e over here came via Craig Moerer. Fantastic double sider but never really taken off for some reason. Don't think any DJ has got behind it for long enough really.

3Rd Frank Wilson "dily (Iid)" Version-1966
Thanks Dave, think I remember some fuss about tis now you've reminded me. I have one of the versions on tape (c90 not agfa ) complete with studio countdown intro etc. I think it is what they eventually used on the CD release.

Are we talking about the acetate cut at Abbey Road in 1979 John Mnaship auctioned?

Dennis Edwards - I Dont Know How Too
It was Martin who found it Jim, about the time you mention, maybe 1991? Shipped over to Tim and the rest is as they say history.

It's called "I didn't have to" and it's on International Soulsville. It's expensive as well.

The Northern Soul Top 500-Definitive Edition. Nov 30Th
Not insulting anyone Kev, what I mean by the type of venue you promote is an oldies night, supposedly playing the best of the last 40 odd years, think you know what I mean as well. I doubt Andy or Mick would resort to a record like Beggin or he reggae records mentioned either. if Beggin is in the book I dare say it isn't as good as what it has replaced.

The Northern Soul Top 500-Definitive Edition. Nov 30Th
I can't understand why Beggin' and the reggae tracks mentioned are even considered when you think about he embarrassment of (Northern) Soul riches available to Dj's today, in particular at the type of event Kev promotes.

The Northern Soul Top 500-Definitive Edition. Nov 30Th
I thought I'd seen SW on a playlist of one of your regulars? Maybe not then. The underground and the continuation of the scene is the bigger picture not a bunch of retro soulies the wrong side of 50/60 who won't be around for many more years. No matter what you say the isn't enough youngsters with the attitude we have/had to continue the scene. There isnt enough youngsters to fill a nighter on the so called collectors scene. Most disappear when job/family take over. As for popularity, who says so? I and many I know knew nothing of any poll to define the the top 500. I doubt many of those outside the Goldsoul scene got a say in this? Anyway as Pete says you've had plenty of publicity out of this topic so I'll shut up

Unexpected Ebay Feedback
If his ratings are that bad that he is going to get thrown of eBay you would think he would wise up and change his business practises.

The Northern Soul Top 500-Definitive Edition. Nov 30Th
Well we've had this argument before me and you Kev and I still gotta disagree with you. Not everyone's cuppa I know but it is far from a dead duck. Packed the floors since Butch first played it, later Kitch, Mick H and dare say Andy Killick if he gets the chance to play it out. You were right though it is impossible to get and impossible for your crowd to hear unless you book Mick or Butch really, many might still not know the record or how to dance to it if they haven't heard it before. yes it is messy as well, but that is the attraction with many NS classics, the fact they aren't polished "hits", they are raw and full of soul and passion. Does it for me every time the Mello Souls You also have to remember that the rare and obscure scene, well without it many records that have crossed over to the oldies/retro scene it wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for those collectors. Many records that your DJ's play were first heard and made popular on the so called collectors scene. What about the likes of Jean Carter - I Wanna Know? Has that made the book? If that isn't a stomper of the traditional kind I don't know what is. What about JT Parker that is popular with Ginger? A Lifeline spin for Andy Dyson. Jesse James - Love Is Alright, Stormye Winters, Hank Hodge, the list is endless of records that would and have crossed over to the oldies scene. Maybe I should attempt a soul source top 500 see how it compares? There is a scene outside of Goldsoul you know

The Northern Soul Top 500-Definitive Edition. Nov 30Th
They might be flavour of the month for some DJ's but are you or anyone else seriously suggesting that they are amongst he definitive top 500 Northern Soul/Rare soul records of the last 40 odd years? I doubt they would make the top 5000. Stoned Love wouldn't even make the top 500 Motown records.

The Northern Soul Top 500-Definitive Edition. Nov 30Th
Bloody hell, I'm agreeing with you Pete And who plays Stoned Love? Spoken intro or not, I can't imagine anyone putting that in a top 500 all time Northern Soul records!!

I remember venues rammed with 100's in, I remember venues with 60/70 in, bit like today.

The Northern Soul Top 500-Definitive Edition. Nov 30Th
It's funny Peter I keep reading "the scene was dead in the 80's" from people I don't remember seeing in venues up and down he country. The scene ws very much alive and thriving in my experience.

The Northern Soul Top 500-Definitive Edition. Nov 30Th
I was doing anything between 2 and 5 venues every weekend, odd one in the week as well. I went to many nighters and soul nights that were rammed. Yes some low on numbers but it hadn't disappeared like some of you seem to think. Many of today spins are 80's discoveries as well. All the DJs had imagination, playing sets they believed in and dancers more than appreciated. The 90's saw the scene go so far backwards it was the 70's all over again and that is where it has stayed with sheep for DJ's with no imagination playing the same few hundred records. If it wasn't for those in the 80's there would have been nothing for the "returnees" to come back to.

it probably did mate but I remember Andy selling one maybe two for around 400 when he was spinning it. £1000 bit steep IMO.

Kin ell, most copies when this was indemand and played by the top DJ's it went for £700/£800 I thought. It wasn't that long ago it was 3/400.

How many of the 500 Kev are actually new in comparison to the old one? I've no wish to shell out cash just to see the Parliaments, I can see a picture of that and listen to it everyday. Also is there a digital/kindle version?
