  1. forgot the door staff. Public Liabilty should be covered by the venue????

but they turned up pretty quickly and not much else on the label worth bothering with. The Cabell label already has a few collectable numbers that fetch a few hundred, thats the difference in this case.
  3. it's still a cheap scene regardless of the number in, that shouldn't be the issue here, you never know how many you will get throught the door wehn promoting. Nighters were a tenner years ago and prices haven't really changed that much yet still comploiants are made? A decent sound system can cost a few hundred, top dj's command a price of at least £150 so with 4 top dj at an all-nighter, the outlay for not DJ's a step down the ladder, the system and of course venue hire which is usually a few hundred for a large venue, flyers adverts etc, bet not much change out of £2000.
  4. I've seen and heard complaints about prices into soul venues for some time (no dig at anyone who psoted on SS btw) but why do we expect everything on the cheap on the soul scene. I don't think ordinary punters realise what it costs to put on an event to be honest, what a dj costs, the cost of venue and equipment hire. I've heard many a complaint about £12 to get into an all-nighter I've just looked at gatecrasher for instance, £14, dunno the price of your ordinary nightclub, not something I frequent So why do soulies expect everything on the cheap?
  5. I think thats a totally different issue to the one thats basically being discussed. Isn't the topic basically about the northern scene and its fascination with orgianl vinyl only (not read all the topic so sorry if I've got it wrong)? The more modern scene always been open to cds as more often that not cd is the origianl format. As for King Moses, I have that here on the PC, I could get that cut to vinyl carver. Wonder what the reaction would be? Is playing a vinyl carver cut of an unissued track available on a Kent cd for instance any different to actually playing the cd itself?

never said you were not entitled to your opinion, I juts gave m,y opinion as others did in response to your opinion. I'm like you, I stick to the price I'm gonna or prepared to pay, well most times

we all live in hope Trev, but the facts regarding this record and the label and the fact that the label has been well known to collectors and DJ's alike for years speak for its self.
  8. I doubt Ian we will ever see the point on the scene where there are enough youngsters who have grown up with CD's and digital music for it not to matter about the original vinyl only ethos that the scene has evolved around, the soul scene is an aging scene and too many will leave the scene at around the same time due to their age and it will probably never recover. And as for the Rocket, can you blame the DJ's? I would blame the promotors for not booking the right DJ's for the crowd in there. Too mnay DJ's are booked for the price of their collection rather than their ability and quality of their sets at times.
  9. I don't think it would work Wally mate. I've been to venues where there are DJ's double decking and cause of the different tastes there was no flow to the set and the dancers were in and out of their seats, full floor for one record and empty floor for the next. It would need a lot of thought from the promoters to put the right DJ's in there who could bounce of each other and get it right. But egos would probably get in the way.

oh and Phil....just good it's up there as one of the best discoveries in years, fantastic record. Packs the floor everytime it's played and rightly so.

There's been two or three copies since it was uncovered Trev, hardly "copies surfacing". I doubt very much this will turn up in quantities sufficient enough to make this readily available to the wider collecting audience. Even the Third Soul Trio and the other Parliaments on the label command a price of 3/400 quid. The label has been well known to collectors for a long tome now and if "Rainy Day" is not "that" rare as some have said why is it not already out there along with the other stuff on the label? This is the copy that was on e-bay a while back.....

  16. The sleeve notes on the Gigi And The Charmianes cd from Kent makes reference to the Charmaines relocating to Canada after their contract with Fraternity had expired. It says Red Leaf was an independant label based in Toronto.
