Would your opinion be the same Christian if it was someone else selling it? Don't get me wrong, I like it, it's a good record but it ain't a dancer. You really shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush, not all of us go out and buy the same old same that every wanna be DJ is buying. There's plenty of good soul, dancers for under £50 if you have the time and patience to look learn and listen PS Joseph Webster has been played since the mid to late 80's.

At the end of the day you can have the best DJ in the world, you can have the best supplier of records, you can have the most knowledgable folk on the scene but anything they do, have or know is pretty useless without the dancers and punters who pay there money week in week out to listen, dance and buy Northern Soul!

You challenge me? I respect anyones decision on who they think is good or not. If we all liked the same DJ's/records it would be pretty boring and we'd have f*** all to argue about on here

Ahhh now I know who they are. Andy Dyson's knowledge is as good as most collectors and dealers on this scene. Like Hammy said, he has nothing at all scibbled down, everything is in his head. So I'd put Andy above Levine. I'd also put him in front of the two authors.

Dunno who number one or number seven are so one would go and Andy Dyson would be in there. I spoke to all the others and Butch IMO is far ahead knowledge wise than most of 'em.

According to Andy Rix's notes The Cautions Fall Guy and Take A Look were found in the vaults of Scepter Wand by Ady Croasdell in'85. They were Shrine recordings though taken to Scepter by Eddie Singleton.

Revilot and other smaller labels I agree they wanted to make money but can you honestly say that some of the releases onn the smaller local labels were aimed specifically at the mass white audience the way acts like the Supremes was? There are many labels that aimed there output specifically at the local black buying market. You can't say that about many of the Motown Corporations major sellers. I also agree about the artists and that they are in it for the money. I bet half of them didn't or wouldn't give a shit what style they sang as long as it made them rich I've read Jack Ashfords book and it still doesn'ty change my thinking about Motown.

As well as the multi couloured boot there are two very good boots, one has the yellow label and one with the white label like above. On both the Monarch MR is scratched in, originals it is stamped.

That maybe so but it later evolved into the playing of imports and thus the "Rare" soul scene. Records like Baby Love etc really have no place on the scene and I for one wouldn't want to hear records like that, as good as some of them are they are basically MOR pop which was aimed at white audiences as that was where the money was. Having said that gotta agree with Christian and say that there are many great soulful Motown releases (and unreleased) that do have a place on the scene. There's also many great soulful Stax releases too!
