Boss, few cities depending on who you are after, there is a Detroit based Boss featuring Johnny Dixon and Reggie Alexander and a Philly based Boss label feraturing the Celebrities (Didn't Tell The Truth). Tuff based in New York.
  3. Tony Clark, excellent choice Martin, one of the best stories ever put to song IMO
  4. would these be the original boots or the original reissues confused? you should be
  5. Brilliant, that made me laugh
  6. Think there are more than him misguided over prices quite a few over here a bit misguided let alone over there
  7. I dumped Real Player and installed this, however only use Jet Audio for all media types
  8. Yep was Capones, don't think I missed one....some great nights for a Sunday there with quality soul.
  9. Can remember Darren too, DJed alongside him few times in the 80's (if it's the same Darren )
  10. But then again Elijah, if your reading, the first set of records pressed you have no control over do you, so you would have a vested interest in passing these off as "non-originals" Just out of interest how much are you selling the "original" release for? Including P&P, know a few who are after one, could be interested myself if the price is right
  11. Would love one MArk, any from Stafford too?
  12. Saw Adrian last year somewhere, f*** knows where If I get done early enough Friday might pop into town and see if he's about, Steve that is, get some contact details if I can
  13. The first Motown import I bought. David Ruffin and the Temptations, need I say more, just listen
  14. Bloody big family Regardless what they were originally intended for, family, friends whatever! it still makes the original 300 the first press doesn't it?
  15. You should listen to the other side for it's lyrics, awesome. I can remember going to the Locarno with Andy, both DJing I think and we played the other side (Tears Running and Falling From My Eyes) all the way there, about 50 times, should have been 40 but we got lost as usual Off for a listen now
  16. One of the appeals of the Wilton niters was they always had, along side bigger name DJ's, lesser known's too. They might have been well known in the collecting circles but to the dancers relatively unknown as DJ's. As collectors and having an "ear" for a sound they often had a knack of playing records you would have thought, on paper, totally unplayable side by side but spun to great effect. You need a balance if running a major night. Local soul nights folk will come along regardless, few pints, few dancers and home happy. At niters and major events you do need the names but you also need to give lesser known DJs a chance too IMO. Most of all you need DJ's who can work the floor, known or not...not some wanna be who just throws records on here and there, like Mike said it's got to flow, they have to get the balance between the tempos and styles right.
  17. When I was younger I said to my mother whilst listening to this that I wanted these lyrics on my headstone when I go to the all-nighter in the sky
  18. Steve Croft lives near me in Chesterfield. Settled into normal obscurity and with his partner have some sort of nursery (plants). Sells them on Chesterfierld market etc. He keeps asking my mother about me etc and as far as i know still has his records.

If it was wasn't much more. He bought the Moments on Hog same time and I'm sure it was about £6500 for the pair.
  20. It was in 1987 ran for most of the year (a packed Boxing night could have been the last). Danny Everard ran it with some help from Dave Thorley. There were four rooms, the used two, downstairs holds 700, upstairs 400, another with room for 150 or so and another a birt smaller again. Saw Danny in Cornwall whilst there on a mini break and he hasn't changed a bit. Squad was a real problem though. They were turning coaches back on the motorways, searching everyone in the towns main car park and still the niters were packed. After all this they busted one person with two grams I think. If they had gone down to the local night club, the Adam and Eve, they woold have had a field day Great nighters though, Steve Smith did the door one night, squad turned up and he chargerd them all to get in
  21. Its Alright With Me/Every Beat Of My Heart

Sorry but it has the JazzFM jingle in there
  24. I don't remember that one..nearest to Yorkshire we went was Brighouse I think. We were only babies..relied on public transport mostly and occasional lifts home from sympathetic older soulies. When I'm moaning nowadays about the 45 minute drive back from Sheridans or somewhere I only have to think back to hours waiting at cold railway stations and feel much better!! link
  25. I didn't keep many, but did save Soultown at both the Tony's!!! Blackburn and Mexborough. The Mucky Duck (Black Swan) in Mansfield another good night around that time. Did you go to the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield. Know I live there but it's the best venue I've ever been in, shame about the squad
