How did you guess I wasn't a fan Personally think it's utter crap and shouldn't be allowed near a Northern room, along with most of the rock and roll and country and western music some DJ's are playing So much soul out there that could and should be played first

Sure this record was made for a film, maybe a western Save yourself some money and buy his Cub outing instead...Oh My Love, far better IMO.
  3. I've got Clarence Reed down at £50 in my database. £40 in JM guide number two

Yep, even down to the same lyrics in parts.

Soon as I saw your topic header Eddie And Ernie sprung to mind. Spun Outcast at Lifeline..great record. Formed the basis of Left Out for Jesse Johnson on Old Town (Eddie Campbell co-wrote it). Sooper They've got to be the greatest Soul duo EVER.

Why are there drugs at all-nighters tut tut
  8. Chalky replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
I thought that was the drugs

No I think the vocal deserves all the credit IMO. I personally think that instrumentals are good Northern Soul and we all know that Northern Soul doesn't necessarily mean soul And you start tingling when you hear the first part of the record comes on cause you love the record...soul, northern soul maybe even modern soul :o
  10. Yep thats basically it....should have made it clearer in my origianl post that the counterfeit/origianl were W/Demo's.

Most of the musicians weren't "soul" musicians. Take the funk brothers they were mainly Jazz musicians and hardly ever if at all played R&B prior to goiing to Motown....not that there was a lot of soul in the majority of Motown...middle of the road pop music I agree it is a feeling but it needs the lyrics and the artist to express those lyrics to give it the soul, all IMHO

Yep I am. No Soul in an instrumental IMO. I say it's all in the vocal. Granted the instruments, including the sax add to the finished product but for me it's the singer who puts the soul in the record.
  13. I'd have to agree with you Pete. Only ever seen to my knowledge this release on DO-DE-RE WC-358 GINO WASHINGTON Gino Is A Coward / Like My Baby (Instrumental) and judging by the compiler's lack of information, no label number so has he/she. WMC 358 to my knowledge is Like My Baby b/w Gino Is A Coward. Never seen or even heard of the ATAC 2830 release.....has anyone else????? I would have to say it's not accurate and based purely on hearsay (especially as there are no release numbers etc) and until see conclusive proof that they all exist I doubt I would be persuaded otherwise. Reminiscent of the Just Brothers & Honey & Bees that are supposed to exist on Wand, until I see them I won't believe it
  14. Gary Sole a Gary Rushbrook spin? Wasn't Syng McGowan a Leeds Central spin for Brady first
  15. Bootlegged as white demo. Counterfeit has STERLING scratched in the run out. Original it's stamped.
  16. They were done two or three years later by Anglo American Gene. Can remember Chris Clark tho'....think it was first spun at Keele when Neil & Jackie Clowes ran it, would be about the time you said Gene, maybe touch later.
  17. I think the one the group member was selling (he was also the writer) has been sold. Shifty (I think) recently got hold of a copy which he has since sold on to a top UK DJ. I know the writer wanted $5000 as I took the call when it was offered to Andy D. Butch as we all know bought the one from e-bay. Greg Tormo has a copy don't know of anymore. All the people spoken to who know of this record say it was never about, including Gilly who's forgot more about Detroit than most know. Not saying there aren't anymore lurking in the states or in collections
  18. Rob Marriott was behind/involved the 10 track lp's. I have one here. There was going to be a 2nd lp but Rob left he scene and never came about. The lp's were sold for £30 if I remember rightly about 300 done, all went very quickly.
  19. I mean the one on e-bay says "The Originals - Baby Have Mercy On Me". Motown I thought usually just put the working title and no artist details.
  20. Motown didn't usually credit the artist on acetates. Is it on the Suspicion one in Soussan's guide Pete?
  21. Some years ago there was a set of about 6 or 7 white label pressings done each had a previously unreleased track on each side, I'm sure this is one with some stickers stuck on. I sold a near complete set on ebay some months ago all that was missing was the Suspicion one as these had all gone.
  22. I've a scan/photo somewhere of the "original" one, dunno where will try and find it. Wouldn't haver thought it would have Gladys Knight on the flip either. The writing looks like stick on labels. Dodgy looking to me.
  23. Dunno Mike to be sure. Andy did mention summat about us going down for one of the shows but never happened I'll give hium a call and try and find out.
