Was played at Stafford by Butch. If I remember rightly neither the Temptones or Diane Lewis are cover ups...both are unidentified and they are just the given name if you like, no name to cover up. Butch still plays both and both in my top 10. Can remember the Swan nighters in Mansfield...Soul Power, still got some flyers and membership (credit card type).

Apart from about £950 being one difference, the gold one's are boot/2nd issues. Can't remember if they are legit or not.

I've had the odd one or two, neither e-bay nor paypal ask you to change your details via e-mail, all done when you log on to respective site. Delete them and report to ebay/paypal.
  5. Suspense over, it's played as the Temptones - and is called "Thats When You Know Your In Love, studio acetate. First played at Stafford.

Used to be Gary Spencers and I thought this was where Carl got it from?????
  7. Think it's more a case of the record settling back towards it's true value...mind still got about £30 to come off before near true value :-) Loads of these about, usually two or three copies on ebay, on lists every week so why do folk pay these prices. As for Futures worth about a fiver IMO in the real world ;-) but some folk paying silly money.

Hi Grant, got the tape cheers, is playing as I type. The track of Butch's is an unissued studio acetate he plays as the Temptones - That's When You Know You're In Love. First played at Stafford. Great record.
  9. Has been discussed elsewhere so i'll post what came about!! There were 2 slightly different versions of this track, both of which came from John Anderson; The Kontets on an audodisc acetate which was the version Pat Brady played as "Stanley Mitchell" the other one landed with Dave Thorley, I'm presuming this is Roger B's copy. Tis on summat like International Studios Acetate (defo Chicago).

Yep gotta agree with you Mr. D. does play some proper stuff. Everytime I'm round his house he makes me green with envy at some of the stuff he keeps turning up. His set in the Queen Vic at Prestatyn on the Sunday was one of the best I've heard in a long time.

Dunno what "Just In The Nick Of Time" was it was a prezzie for my bithday from Janine. "Thats what I Want" have seen several at £120 lately :-0 Like you say another that used to be common that i got for next to nowt.
  20. I think thats half the problem, we saw indemand records in quantity and insales boxes every week!! We look at the prices folk are paying now and just shake our head. Personally think a lot of the returnees who missed the 80's missed an awful lot of stuff and don't realise how common or rare they are. Also they don't IMO study sales lists and especially e-bay and see what is listed often and not so often. I know one thoing, I couldn't afford to collect likke I did in the 80's now. I was spending £150 on records where there were only 3, 4 or 5 known copies...how much would you have to spend these days on records like that. I also wish I was selling up now and not years ago, would be living very comfortably :-(

this seems to becoming popular again and I'm amazed at the number of folk who say they don't know it! The last few times I've djed I've started spinning his "Just In The Nick Of Time" very under-rated and a big want of mine last year till Janine bought it me for my birthday :-)

got to agree with the description of Herbert Hunter, great track. There was a vg only copy for £20 earlier this week. Seems to be getting a little harder to find. Why spends 100' sometimes 1000's when you can pick up class chewns like Herbert Hunter or the Royal Premiers which are just as good and begging to be played.
  23. Hi Trouble, nothing personal taken believe me, love a good debate ;-) Young DJ's Mmmm...I like to see a dj play summat new and off original vinyl. Things are still done by and large as they've always been done, spinning rare soul 45's. My point is will the younger newcomers to the scene still be prepared to do this, after all it is what we were brought up on, no cd's in those days, or will they go for the easier and cheaper option when collecting. My whole point is I don't see many young collectors in the record bars, no where near as many as us old(er) 'uns :-) What's gonna happen to all the vinyl when/if it does become avaiable and no one collects seriously like we do at the minute cause they only prefer the cd format. Will it always be vinyl after all the soul scene (and funk) are one of the few who use vinyl. Many other damce scenes use cds, mini discs and just lately have heard of MP3's being used. Off for a drink and watch Liverpool on the idiot box (tv) ;-) Chalkster PS I'd be worried too about that wedding ;-))
  24. I personally think half the trouble is that the majority of collectors have paid off their mortgages, kids grown up and have plenty of ready money to spend and aren't afraid to pay over the odds. Times are gone when you could turn down a record you thought was a little expensive as you knew you would more than likely see one the following week. No one has the patience either anymore, not many prepared to shop around for the best deal. Also the collecting scene is now worldwide, just like stamps. Even more so with the advent of the internet and auction sites like e-bay. Have sold records on e-bay to China, Japan, Australia, all over Europe and the States. What do the dealers think? C'mon Mick (Smith) you must have one or two thoughts about this ;-)
  25. You need to top up on your Geography too Mikey by the looks of things :-) Only one God's country, glorious Yorkshire :-)
