  1. Arrived this week and has been very much on repeat. Just wonderful. Well done Alex and all involved…thank you for time effort to make this available for us to soak up and treasure!
  2. Good shout…lots out there digital only I struggle to keep up with! Been enjoying the album by October London for several weeks now, ‘The rebirth of Marvin’ (I think still download only unless anyone can say otherwise) and this track in particular…’Make me wanna’:
  3. Merry Christmas everyone🎶🎄…and here’s to a happy & healthy New Year hopefully! 🤞🏻 Cheers🍻, Steve
  4. And another recent take on well loved classic, originally William deVaughn 1974 I think, this latest take by ‘Sunsay and the Soul Surfers’ on Funk Night Records. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=t7obFo92ykA
  5. Recent 3rd release by Johnny Ruiz & The Escapers – Oralia b/w Believe Me, Parkside Records. On 45 and download. ..thoughts of driving in summer, windows down and warm air, ahh soon be that time again!😎☀️
  6. Cool recently released new take on the 1966 Elsie Mae track originally on King records, written by James Brown.. Osaka Monaurail Ft. Casey Malone – Do You Really Want To Rescue Me ; Ubiquity
  7. The Soul Motivators - It is what it is
  8. New single from Carmy Love on Big AC out now digitally, with 45 to follow soon I think. Quality retro soul and what a voice!…
  9. Wonderful first release and so is the second coming soon after! Well done and looking forward to many more to follow hopefully.
  10. Knocking it out the park again, well done! Have loved hearing this out and dancing to it once or twice a year. On the ever changing wants for too long, so this will do nicely thank you…but how to resist playing it too much so it’s still a treat to hear?!😅
  11. Wonderful version, amazing lead and backing vocals, production! Well done to all involved for sticking with the project, so we can now hear it and buy the 45 to support. Lyrics certainly as pertinent and thought provoking now as ever. Definitely leading with this in my next ‘soul with a message’ mix! Cheers.
  12. Wonderful, well done and thank you! Interesting read as always and another essential addition to the ever growing SJ selection box of delights What a year it’s been so far for previously unreleased tracks, more to come hopefully.
  13. Brilliant 7 track EP (I'll call it that as two of the tracks are less than a minute, intro and outro) includes these tracks and is avail on Bandcamp now for the price of a beer or two. Two of the slightly more mid-tempo sides caught my ear and hopefully a future 45 for those also https://derobertandthehalftruths.bandcamp.com/album/100-yard-dash
  14. What a brilliant find and version, well done and thanks for making it available after all these years! I love the story, the tempo, so soulful....and now with Jesse’s amazing vocal. Both sides wonderful.
  15. Yes it’s layered in there for sure👍 Really like the Frightnrs version from 2016 too. The Futures had a great track of similar title from’75
  16. The Family Daptone - Hey Brother (Do Unto Others) Soon out on 45 and digital too. Today, we are proud to share with you “Hey Brother (Do Unto Others),” the A-side to our 100th 45. Out June 28th, the 45 features the late great monarchs of our Daptone family, Charles Bradley and Sharon Jones, as well as Saun & Starr, the Frightnrs, James Hunter, Naomi Shelton, Duke Amayo and Lee Fields, singing a message of righteousness and brotherhood over a groove sewn seamlessly together by members of The Dap-Kings and Menahan Street Band. Written by The Frightnrs, the song originally appeared on their acclaimed LP, Nothing More to Say. In the wake of the tragic loss of singer Dan Klein to ALS just before the album’s release, we felt it would be a fitting tribute to re-imagine the tune as a soulful collaboration between the dynamic vocalists on our label. What started as a thank you to our beloved fans has now also become a loving tribute to our lost Brothers and Sister: Charles Bradley, Dan Klein, Cliff Driver, and our eternal Queen, Miss Sharon Jones. “Hey Brother (Do Unto Others)” is available digitally everywhere tomorrow, June 14th. 45 Release Details Available June 28th. Pre-order the DELUXE DAPTONE FAMILY EDITION of this momentous 45, only available from the Daptone store. Be the only kid on the block to own Daptone’s 100th on a EXCLUSIVE, LIMITED EDITION, DIE-CUT PICTURE DISC in the shape of the actual Daptone logo. Comes with extensive liner notes and includes a copy of the standard black 45 + a folded 24x36 featuring all 100 45s. 1 PER PERSON! https://shopdaptonerecords.com/products/hey-brother-b-w-soul-fugue
  17. The new Bobby Oroza LP is out this week and has some great tracks.
  18. Also looking forward to the imminent Black Pumas LP on ATO Records / Colemine, now available for pre- order today.
  19. The new Kelly Finnigan LP through the post today from Colemine. Stunning!
  20. New Lady Wray 45 from Big Crown records out soon and sounds good to me both sides. Pre-order directly or through their page on Bandcamp👍 https://bigcrownrecords.com/store/piece-of-me-b-w-come-on-in/
  21. Good shout Mike..so many releases this year so far and long may it continue. Funk Night Records continue to churn out some decent new/old sounding 45s too:
  22. Thanks for that..really great and I look forward to reading / learning more about the amazing Sharon Jones & her Dapkings, while listening to their many wonderful LPs and 45s!
  23. Great to have this on 45 after listening to it so much on the Sweet Thing Going On Vol 3 cd...when those backing vocals get going on the Love Song About You track.. just heavenly! Really like this prev unreleased B side too. Cheers! S
  24. I meant Promotional Copies..buyer’s choice I guess whether to pay bit more for limited run labels. I’m all for it if it helps the record labels / artists gain a bit more income while they can, invest back for more of the same hopefully. Yes great release and hope it leads to an album or at least further single releases from this group.
  25. Email I received from Kimberlite the other day suggested a “European Distributor” had received stock delivery before they had in Canada. Official release date is 1st Aug I believe. Both the demo and issue went on pre-release sale online on Kimberlite website at midnight our time last night (5pm Canada time). Demo sold out quickly as expected and guessing the issues will too. Great to see quality new labels and new releases like this still popping up around the globe, even if it is sometimes a bit of a game trying to keep informed and still in with a shout at buying each release directly before they sell out and hit the re-seller market at 3 or 4 times the original retail price..but that’s another thread altogether I guess. Anyway I look forward to my parcel from Canada in a few weeks and to whatever comes next from Kimberlite Records. Cheers, S
