Records Lost
Not making light of the situation Bob, and I certainly hope you get them back, but I'm just curious how did you "lose" your bag ? I know that whenever I leave home with a box or bag of precious records, I keep 100% alert at all times and they are never more than an arms length away at any time ...

David Ruffin Lp, My Whole World Ended
Quite simply, David Ruffin was the greatest male soul singer that ever lived, even ahead of Marvin Gaye. Really deserves a complete in depth biography to be written about him and especially his relationship with Berry Gordy and the Motown company after he was sacked from the Temps. Here is one of the greatest performances in the history of soul music, one never tires of hearing - and seeing -this: Download Video Youtube Link

David & The Giants - 10 Miles High - Super Love
Interesting thing about the track "Super Good Feeling" is that it is obviously inspired by "Crystal Blue Persuasion" originally by Tommy James then by the Naturals, Joe Bataan, etc.

David & The Giants - 10 Miles High - Super Love
https://davidandthegiants.com/_wsn/page3.html The group behind those classic stomping northern sounds .... and here is a very interesting web site on group vocalist David Huff , now better known in contemporary circles as a born again Christian. A tip, David & the Giants' release on the Fame label from 1970 , a super slice of cross-over called "Super Good Feeling" , just right for today !

The Bloody Snake
Well here is a great version of "The Snake" as performed in 1967 by West Coast blue eyed rocker Johnny Rivers on a rare video clip from groovy 6T's US TV teen show "The Hollywood Palace". Note too that Johnny Rivers was on the same Soul City label as Al Wilson ... Dig the go-go dancers !!! Download Video Youtube Link

The Manhattans - Picture Became Clear - Video '69
Tony, didn't their first Columbia LP contain sides that they recorded for Deluxe ?
-
The Manhattans - Picture Became Clear - Video '69
Good innit ... this was when they were working with George Kerr after they left Carnival ... both their late 60's LP's on Deluxe are excellent and hugely underrated.

The Radiants - Voice Your Choice - Video '64
Erm ... Chicago

The Impressions - Check Out Your Mind - Video '70
Download Video Youtube Link Just love this rare colour clip of the Impressions from their Curtom days, from their Young Mods Forgotten Story LP ... look at the white boys backing them up !!!

The Manhattans - Picture Became Clear - Video '69
Download Video Youtube Link Brilliant and rare promo clip of the Manhattans from 1969 in Central Park, featuring original lead George Smitty Smith who tragically died young and was replaced by Gerald Alston .... Great tune from their Deluxe label period in the late 6T's

Afternoon Of The Rhino
Quite like the vocal version though, The Charades "Dreaming Up A World of Fantasy" !

Getto Kitty - Stand Up & Be Counted - Stroud
Yep, that's what I thought, but when playing it recently, got a great reaction from the soul crowd, so made me think it's a "just right for today" kind of record ... stylistically not so far removed from Gil Scott-Heron's "The Bottle" and records like that.
-
Getto Kitty - Stand Up & Be Counted - Stroud
Was this played on the soul scene in the 70's ? Mecca perhaps ? Or has it ever been played to any great degree on the scene at any time since ? Appeared on one of Keb Darge's funk/disco compilation LP's a few years ago, was Keb the main man for playing/breaking this sound ?

Modern Indemander For Sale
Yes indeed, and the LP is even better .... and far far rarer ....
-
Boy Meets Girl Lp
Two LP set when originally issued in the US. "Some" superb tracks, you say ? The WHOLE LP from start to finish is superb ! But then there is a whole section of soul fans who couldn't "be arsed collecting LP's"

Arctic Records
Is Volcano's lead singer Gene Faith still alive , and, if so, is he still in the music business ?

Levi Stubbs Tribute
As I have had to personally endure the heart wrenching experience of witnessing my own Dad waste away on a downward spiral within a matter of around 18 months, and having seen that Aretha video tribute to Levi that was posted on here last year with Levi in a wheel chair, my guess is that Levi has suffered a stroke or a series of minor strokes over a period of time.

Northern Soul H Q Outside The Uk ?
Some of the traditional 60's only UK die hards may recoil in horror , and it's been said before but there is definitely an increasing influence from DJ's from other areas of the black music scene, eg James Trouble, with the effect that northern soul fans in the UK are looking more and more to crossover/modern and even funk. For example, not unthinkable that Keb Darge might return to the northern scene one day but actually play a set of his funk/disco-soul tunes as an accepted part of the northern scene. It's a process that has already been taking place in Europe for some time now.
