BOBBY GARRETT - MIRWOOD 5508 MATRIX - SCRATCHED IN "65-1037-A JT VOCAL" FAINT MONARCH STAMP AND @ "DELTA 59636" BOTH DEMO AND ISSUE THAT I HAVE ARE STYRENE WITH IDENTICAL DEADWAX MARKS- Mel Williams On Modern
The deadwax on both DEMO & Issue ONLY about 7mm - On original copies Matrix scratched in "MM-1023-1" ( The matrix is small, about 2mm tall and situated between run off groove and playing area - as soon as it was possible to fit it in - almost touching groove above and below it) Run off groove in the deadwax spirals to centre quite quickly within one turn of disc - 270 degees I hope that this helps- Have You Recently Heard A Record That For One Reason Or Another Has Escaped Your Attention, Until Now?
The thing is that even on Manships site the sound sample was for "We've got everything going for us" which is on the other side. I like Dee Dee Warwick and have started to collect her records. When I went searching the Net for this one it just didn't appear on lists. I eventually found 2 copies, both in Europe - 1 demo & 1 issue. I bought the DEMO, the price didn't suggest that it was particulally Rare.- Have You Recently Heard A Record That For One Reason Or Another Has Escaped Your Attention, Until Now?
Hi Thanks to the Hitsville Soul Club - Record Review. For this one Dee Dee Warwick - Don't You Ever Give Up On Me I can't believe that I have only just heard this record in the last few months. I have been collecting for years, and yet this one escaped my attention, UNTIL NOW! It wasn't easy but I found a eventually found a copy.- Our Love Is In The Pocket
Anyone know just how many times the DEMOs came out for Darrell Banks; I bought a Mint Green & White Stateside Demo in the 1970's which is at best the third time it came out. There has recently been a TEST press on Manships I once heard about a London DEMO with written Titles/Credits? The Stateside Red & White DEMO has misspelled title - is there also one with a correctly spelled title? All of this leaves my Green & White at best, 3rd time out as a DEMO London 10070 DJ - Open The Door To Your Heart / Our Love Is In The Pocket Stateside 536 Red & White DJ - Open The Door Of Your Heart / Our Love Is In The Pocket Stateside 536 Green & White DJ - Open The Door To Your Heart / Our Love Is In The Pocket It is difficult to find on any of the above DEMOs Anyone any idea of current values;- Bobby Garrett
The Duck definitely on Purple Issue - I am under the impression that these were first issues. I will find my copy and scan it in. I have quite a bit of Mirwood stuff including Bobby Garrett - DEMO & Issue I will have a look A.S.A.P. for Matrix, scans, etc When collecting Mirwood you do tend to come across Dark Blue, Lighter Blue labels. When I can I try to obtain different label variations sometimes too pricey. Some DEMOS are slightly different design. I have The Duck - White Demo which is a different label design. An early disappointment for me was to find that the White Demo for 5511 Didn't have My Little Girl on. The only copies that I have seen have Big Brother on both sides - in an attempt to complete the label I bought it anyway. Most other DEMO's are A & B on Mirwood- Soul Bowl Soul Packs
I don't think there were many records that didn't appear over the years on the Soul Bowl list. Even British rarities from time to time were listed. As I've said before, most of my wages went on records, I never found anywhere else to compare to Soul Bowl. I did find other places though. One that comes to mind was a local dealer opening Soul Packs in the 1970's - Packs of 10 in polythene, so obviously you could only see 2 records before opening. I don't know where he got them from but one time when I went the guy was just opening the packs and putting them in the racks for sale. I was busy lookig through the racks and found about half a dozen copies of Touch of Venus - Sandy Wynns on Champion DEMO Believe it or not I only bought one copy, I could kick myself now but what happened next made up for it. What should he find but 2 copies of Freddie Chavez DEMO's and a Luther Ingram DEMO. I have never moved so fast in my life, someone else in the shop got one copy of Freddie Chavez and I got the other one plus the Luther Ingram DEMO. I didn't want to go home until I checked every record in the record racks and every Soul Pack was opened. I scoured the shop but found nothing else on that scale - talk about being in the right place at the right time.- Soul Bowl Soul Packs
I have just had a look at www.soulfuldetroit.com Although I have been on the site before, there appears to be a lot more articles there. Either way it's all good stuff thanks. It got me thinking, I know that America is vast but I wonder what percentage of vinyl has made it across the water to Europe etc From finding my first import in 1969 Chuck Jackson on Motown and thinking WOW thats different - my collection has exploded to include mainly U.S.A. Imports.- Soul Bowl Soul Packs
The Soul Pack that I bought was 100 for £3 It still had quite a few rare items in. I remember 2 copies of The Fabulous Dimensions - 1 RED, 1 YELLOW There were also funk rarities etc. I would estimate that quite a large amount of what we have, came through Soul Bowl, one way or another. One of the times I visited Soul Bowl someone was just listening to and about to purchase Little Joe Roman - When You're Lonesome - Tuff DEMO. I looked through the Okeh Stuff and found Multiples of Major Lance Demos - You Don't Want Me No More, Ain't No Soul. The Artistics - Purple Vinyl, Sandra Philips,,, Pic Covers you name it. The list goes on; As I was looking through John said to me, listen to these two. The Silhouettes - Not Me Baby - Goodway & The Steinways You've Been Leading Me On - Oliver Issue Instantly fell in love with both and snapped them up. I even got the Steinways DEMO from the Soul Bowl list a year or so later. There was just so much there, I bought what I could afford at the time which took a large amount of my wages, as I recall. I still remember the weekly list, the phone calls, the wait for the post to arrive a few days later. Happy Days. Incidently, I can't remember the exact year but the first list that I ever got from them they were Groove City records.- Obrey Wilson - Question
The Original STOCK COPY was on YELLOW EPIC LABEL - (Matrix Stamped - ZSP110864) The Original DEMO was on a WHITE LABEL - (Matrix Stamped - J ZSP110864) I also have this on an Orange EPIC Label which is a Re-Issue from the 1970's. I hope that this helps- Footsie
It sort of underlines my point - The Media scored an own goal by not realising the potential of the footage that they once had. We Treasure any footage we have, so it couldn't be in safer hands now.- Footsie
Where is the archived material? We are constantly bombarded with some ageing rock group on their final tour, since their last final tour retiring just in time for their next final tour! Why can't we have a purpose made GOOD documentary/programme DVD containing any remaining footage/sounds like this? Not a Tongue in cheek attempt by someone who doesn't understand or really care what it was all about. I know that our scene has always been an underground scene, so often misunderstood. I have always felt let down by the media over the years. The missed opportunities throughout the years to capture these magic moments on film, doesn't bear thinking about. Surely it wouldn't do todays scene any harm if we had a GOOD informative look at our wonderful past. After all is this not where the roots of today's music lies?- Footsie

Reminded me of how fortunate I am to have experienced such an important time. (Unfortunately misunderstood by the media) You're right Karen - "old foggies" at the time were only too quick to find fault - If only they really knew what it was about- Footsie
Tainted Love I wish I had a Time Machine. The first time that I actually heard it, Danced to it, The Atmosphere, The Handclaps. Records like Tainted Love thoroughly deserve their place. "SPINE TINGLING" you're right Pete Listening to the ENERGY! - I sat back to listen to it & nearly spun out of the computer chair. Magic Thanks everyone.- Footsie
WOW that was quick, The Atmosphere you're right, just as I remember - "Brilliant Times". It was nice to hear it again after all these years, just as I remembered it. Thanks, the atmosphere, hand claps, Magic. Footsie, part of Northern Soul history and it will no doubt stay there but I enjoyed listening to it on this occasion - Wonderful stuff. I know that the track isn't in vogue now but at the time when Instrumentals were played quite often, I'm suprised that this version was never booted on vinyl, or did PYE beat them to it on this occasion.- Footsie
Does anyone remember the first version of this instrumental. Not the Roulette Original, but the version that someone spliced together from various sources, intro etc. It was obviously the Roulette version but with a different intro etc, PYE tried to copy a few months later but it was different. I remember hearing it at the time, obviously it was on an acetate, also heard at venues. It was then released by PYE with their version/changes and released with Chuck Wood on the other side. Anyone?- Golden World Records
Miff You have set yourself quite a task with some of these The following 5 are some of the hardest to find - Or even to get someone to part with. Devil In His Eyes Jul 1965 GW 27 Barbara Mercer The Things We Do Together Hungry For Love (Instrumental) Sep 1965 Issues for the next 2 are almost impossible. Although DEMOS are easier by comparison they're still tough. GW 40 Tamiko Jones I'm Spellbound Am I Glad Now Jul-66 GW 41 Tony Michaels Picture Me & YouI Love The Life I Live (And Live The Life I Love) Aug-66 Roger- 1,2,3,original ?
Hi As Both these titles came out as separate issues on Brunswick originally, I would say Re-Issue. Having said that, I don't know how many copies of the Re-issue are about. I suspect that it MAY be easier to find an original than a Re-Issue in this format?. Value?- 2006 - All The Best
