Mckay Take Me Over
https://www.popsike.com/php/quicksearch.php?searchtext=mckay+take+me+over&thumbs=&currsel=&sortord=ddate&x=0&y=0 OOF! Great track, but had no idea it had become so expensive - mind you, in my head it's a new release. It's actually nearly a decade old!!!

Patti Austin, Linda Jones, Inspirations
The Inspirations has two flipsides. The "fancy" label has "funny situation", but the "plain text logo" has the immense "what am I gonna do". Although i've seen promos with the plain text logo with "what am I gonna do" on both sides. So presumably this was the plug side. Not sure which version came first... And "what am I" IS the flip to the uk polydor issue...

Original Studio Acetates - Authentic Or Not ?
You reckon? I think even 60s acetates STILL give off that, ahem, unique aroma...
-
Original Studio Acetates - Authentic Or Not ?
But that's the trouble with acetates, it's unlikely there's just ONE studio acetate. Just because Andy Rix had one, doesn't mean another copy ISN'T genuine... Sometimes the same song can turn up on different labels etc. depending on if it's a studio cut, or a publisher sending out copies to interested parties etc. I just got a Chuck Jackson UK publishers acetate - you can hear the person dropping the needle at the start of the track. No reason to doubt it's genuine since it's a ballad and it cost 3 Euros... The other problem is people cutting new tracks onto the flipsides of genuine old acetates - a whole other can of worms. Guess that's why some people don't like them. As for me... I love them! You just can't beat that original acetate SMELL - aaah!

Wanted: Billy Emerson On Chess
To be honest, I can't really see how making a cash offer, and then lowering it by £100 is going to make finding your record more realistic. But good luck...

Luther Ingram - If Its All The Same/exus Trek - Green Hib
Here's a question - I'm too lazy to count them up but it seems like there's about, what 8 different pressings of this? Why wasn't it a hit? And why did they keep on pressing it and pressing it? Most small labels would have quit after one go. Or wasn't HIB a small label? Is there anything else on it? Questions, questions...

Wanted: Jo Anne Henderson "baby Please Don't Go"
Hmmm, not looking good is it?! ANYONE????!!!!

Luther Ingram - If Its All The Same/exus Trek - Green Hib
Actually, on another vinyl forum someone was saying they know an undertaker and it's not that uncommon for people to want to depart with some of their favourite music. However, there are strict rules when it comes to cremation and you can't burn other stuff, like plastics. So, sometimes the undertaker will cheekily just remove the offending article without anyone noticing... so, to re-phrase - don't all rush to check the crematorium bins SS'ers...

Omnibus: Volume 1 Re-Issued Boxset ?
Honest Jons mail order has it in stock, so I'd imagine their shop will have it even cheaper - no postage, and it must cost a fair bit to send...
-
All Of My Life - The Ringleaders?
At the risk of playing devil's advocate here, is it not quite common for acetates to have different artists on each side, if songs are being shipped around for publishing deals or whatever? Just curious if it was instantly obvious that all four tracks were the same group? Maybe Butch needs to get a carver cut from your acetate - now that WOULD open up a whole can of worms...

Ebay Gazumping?
And ebay gazzumping definitely DOES happen. When you win a bargain, someone else sees it - contacts the seller saying "that record should have sold for far more, I'll offer you $xxx for it." And then you get the old "sorry, my dog ate the record while I was packing it, I'll need to refund you" sob stories...
-
Ebay Gazumping?
I'm not sure if I'm following the logic here - sniping only bids what you're prepared to pay. So it doesn't matter if you bid with 2 days to go, or 2 seconds to go - if someone else bids higher, you're not going to win it. I'm not saying don't use a snipe - just people seem to think "if that bid didn't come in right at the end, I would have won it" - except the person out-bidding you was always going to outbid you, no matter WHEN they placed their bid...

Advice On Selling My Record Collection
Surely there's no way of knowing if anything has sold for those prices, though? If you see a record on the shop floor then it hasn't sold. Meaning? It's just new out in the racks OR it's too expensive and has been sitting for months? If a record HAS sold, you're not going to see it... You see an Anglo American list - you phone up for one title to hear Rick's familar laugh as you're the 84th person to ask for it. And the rest of the records on the list? Sold or unsold? I agree popsike can be a dangerous tool - but if you always "sort by date", then it's easy to see if a record is going up or down or is just all over the shop. I've heard tales of shop owners who use the "arrange by price" button to show highest prices first working down when they're trying to sell something - and listing lowest prices up when they're trying to buy something! Showing customers the screen, like they're doing them a favour...

Thats Just Love - John ?
https://www.45cat.com/record/embs222 Actually, one side says Simpson / Sandford / Armstead?
-
Thats Just Love - John ?
And ALSO released at almost exactly the same time "I Surrender" by The Carrolls - another A&S song (which didn't get a US release or recording?). Wonder if someone sold a job lot of their songs in early 1966? https://www.45cat.com/record/bm56081

Omnibus: Volume 1 Re-Issued Boxset ?
But... but.... but... IT'S KILLING THE SCENE! Glad to see this thread has descended into the depths of o.v.o. petty "debate". I think i'm going to grab one of these sets, looks the business. And if it sounds the business too, then it's a no-brainer. In reply to the Lacoste copy mentioned earlier, if the Sag War Fare 45 sounds better than the original, who's to say the counterfeit Lacoste top wasn't actually superior to the genuine article???!!!

Wanted Cliff Nobles - My Love Is Getting Stronger On J-V Label

Pearly Queen - Quiet Jive In
"Quiet Jive'in" - ha! Amazing record, not sure it's sister funk - would that not involve a female vocal?
