  1. for the last 34 years my favourite record was Bernie Williams, "EVER AGAIN" that l bought back in 1977 on a "BELL RECORDS" issue for £40 but l'm getting a bit fed up with it now so, . . l've decided that the record that describes northern soul is. . "LET NOBODY LOVE YOU" by Virginia Blakley. what an absolutely penetrating tune, during the terror of "hurricane katrina" a few years ago, a friend of mine told me that a dealer he knows, had a couple of boxes (25 copies per box) water damaged by the hurricane consequently washing off the labels, completely, so if anybody has a copy in this condition and the vinyl is okay, if they're willing to give it away for free & gratis!! I'M YOUR MAN. Tony Warot.
  2. l think we are a unique breed, wouldn't change a thing tony warot
  3. hiya dave, yeh well you weren't hallucinating, it really is me. whenever people mention YATE dj's they don't remember that l also used to dj there but not when barry thomas (dinks) ran it but never mind, l haven't done too badly in 40 years tone.
  4. I've been collecting and deejaying since l was 18, buying records on the scene has always been somewhat "exclusive" but some of the prices l've seen for records lately are what l'd call "absolute fictional" yes, a lot of 'em ARE rare and obscure and to be honest, that's ALL they are. My answer to the question of affordability is, if you want to be a deejay at today's prices is. .buy carefully!! Tony Warot.
  5. hi steve, l've still got the Bell copy, the other one was an ERIC records re-issue that l disguised as a real one by putting faked label scans off my original (in colour) of A & B sides. and it fooled everyone!!! Tony.
  6. yes, and it was faster than the original on TARX records
  7. Yes andy, handwriting IS mine tony warot

emidiscs were made of aluminium and coated with an acetate laquer they were basically used in mastering studios to make a STAMPER for the vinyl copies, rather like using a picture negative in photography I have a record cutting machine, it's a complicated process. Tony Warot.
  9. Hi paul, we seem to live parallel lives mate, your early experiences are exactly the same as mine. tony warot.
  10. hi paul, couldn't agree more. There has always been a large following of soulies from BEDS,CAMBS, HERTS, BUCKS and NORTHANTS right from day 1, for us in Bedford, we've always had to drive long distances to attend allniters etc, so it was a god send when clubs such as the phoenix/ wirrina stadium and the fleet centre had soul nites & niters on a regular basis as they only took about 40 minutes to get to by car, and were professionally organised. Tony Warot.
  11. hi steve, how is it nobody stole a really flash motor like a TR7? like the one l stroled off with when l worked at KENNINGS CAR HIRE in Bedford. l had collected it from a lady who lived way out in the countryside and couldn't return it herself, so me and another chap went to get it, on the way back it was raining like l'd never seen before so l stopped in a layby until it eased up a bit, YEAH. . .5 hours later and it's 8:45pm and after hours, l decide l'll go home in it & explain the following day (wednesday) anyway, it got to friday afternoon and l've still got the car but haven't been to work. My parents were on holiday so if anyone from Kennings came round to look for me, they'd find an empty house. It's now SUNDAY and l've just driven from wigan in it, the woman next door came to see me saying that the police want to talk to me urgently, they've been trying to trace me AND the car since mid-week but l've not been home since tuesday (on purpose) It finally ended at 11pm that evening when 3 policemen and Mrs Cottle from Kennings came to call. She said don't try to explain where you've been, you're sacked. Best of it is.., she didn't want to press charges cos she said that l was good at my job, dismissal is embarrasing enough, no harm was done to the car and don't come anywhere near the shop. She topped it off by calling me a foolish basta*d as she left Tony Warot. (car thief and gentleman)
  12. lt was about 1987/88 and l was dee-jaying regularly for EASC promotor KEN COX at the fleet centre in PETERBOROUGH, anyway, one saturday evening about 10pm there was a knock at the front door, standing there looking pleased with himself was SMOOTHY DAMON. he said, hurry up l've left the engine running. So l quickly got my record box from my room and loaded it into the boot of his car, anyway we got started and l said "nice motor smoothy, l didn't know you could drive, when did you learn to drive? he said, it's not my car tone, l've borrowed it. From who? says l, well actually tone, I NICKED IT ABOUT TEN MINUTES AGO!!! 'kin 'el, l said we'd better get to peterboro' before the geezer notices it missing. BUT. . . let me add, we took it back to where he'd "borrowed" it on the sunday morning after the niter. Nice one smoothy, we must do it again sometime soon eh? Tony Warot.
  13. hi there mr donnelley, l thought you mite be reading the bletsoe bit as you were there also, l can't remember there being any toilets there, not that it mattered, cos just as always, a dark corner outside usually did the trick, even the girls did the same AND IN PAIRS!! some things never change Tony Warot.
  14. hi steve smith, just when u thought it safe to go back in the water up pops tony warot (me) never mind. does anybody remember jeff king's SOULSOUNDS label, l have got the entire series.
  15. my first allniter was held in a farm barn in the village of BLETSOE (bedfordshire) Haydons farm.(1972) it started at midnite satnite/sunmorn, and finished at 6am. the top three sounds that l remember were. . . . . Patti Austin "MUSIC TO MY HEART" Detroit Road Runners "SWINGING CAMELS" Dobie Gray "OUT ON THE FLOOR" As you approached the entrance, there was a sign hung over the barbed wire fence saying "DISCO CLUB" in white emulsion paint that hadn't dried properly, making it impossible to read. but despite having a petrol generator, 50 gallon petrol drums and a very leaky roof, it had the best wooden dancefloor of all time. Tony Warot
