  1. Imagine youv'e cue'd up a record then forgotten what its called!! Hey what chance have we mere mortals got when the great man himself does it :P BH
  2. Thats what I thought Pete but as I say a bit rusty these days Cheers Pete BH
  3. Captured_2006_8_5_00002.bmp I'm selling this on ebay and I've been told its a reissue, is this right? To be quite honest I have lost touch with all the tell tale signs (Must buy JMs book) It seems you need a set of vernier callipers, a 0-1 Micrometer and a jewellers eyepiece these days to verify the authenticity of your records. The record came out of shop in LA nearly 30 years ago so I always thought it Kosher. Thanks for any help BH
  4. Betty Everett "My love to lean on" SS7 gets my vote, horrible twangy guitar but Betty saves the day BH
  5. Blake H replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
Latin Soul - Mongo Santamaria Columbia (Old Dave Withers tune) Is this the same as Little Sonny "Latin Soul" on Revilot? BH
  6. I know one DJ who has a monster crossover record that he plays at normal speed in Northern rooms and at -2 in Crossover rooms!!!!!!!! Pray do tell Steve Hope Friday was ok Cu all soon Blake & Nicky
  7. Dont know if Rookie Ricardo is still on the go in SF but if he is give him my regards, maybe internet only now, good luck Blake H
  8. I know the purists will wince  at this but do you ever give certain records a rev or two, more or less and think it improves them? Yes I know they should be played at the speed intended but what records do you "tweak"??? BH PS Please ignore if your deck is not adjustable.
  9. Northern Street just outside Leeds city centre BH
  10. Came across a 7" copy of "Pressure" Drizabone recently without a picture cover, I know this is a long shot but has anyone got a PC (for the above) they might sell/trade? Talking of sleeves does anyone know if Spar company sleeves exsist? or who (if any) the parent company of Spar was? Thanks BH
  11. As John says Croydon has a few record shops, try upstairs at Beanos, "the worlds largest second hand record shop" loads of boxes in various catogories (US 60s,UK 60s, Ska etc etc) but be warned, Ray the guy with the long greasy hair huffs and puffs a lot after bringing 3 boxes to the counter, pull one or two out even if you dont want 'em. This place used to be utopia in the 80s when it was in Surrey St....tons of 45s at 10p (or 20 for a pound honest). If I knew then..... BH
  12. So true Sean, I remember the conversation we had in the Downbeat lounge in April re "You threw a lucky punch" I said I'd never heard it played out anywhere and wanted to rectify that.............."That day, oh yeah when you walked away" ..... job well done! BH
  13. Following on from the corrie thread and I got to thinking what a great artist he is, and tried to come up with my favorites.....not easy. Genes covered the full range of soul styles, from Northern to Deep to Ballad to Pop hits, so which gets your vote? For me its between the following:- "You threw a lucky punch" "Mr big shot" "Familiar footsteps" "Think nothing about it" "Candy" "Dont have to be lying babe" but in an hours time it will be different. BH PS. Classic line from Corrie, Tyrone Dobbs "Gene Chandler who's she then" priceless
  14. Yes thats the same B side, thanks for the info BH
  15. Anyone know if it is listed in John Manships price guide? Its not in the rarest of the rare section so it cant be too obscure. BH ps 'tother sides not bad either.
  16. Michelle.45.mp3 I cant find out much about this 45 (value etc), its not listed in TBs price guide, any ideas? BH
  17. I found this press release in the 12" named and wondered if anyone knows if anything ever came of it? Maybe a couple of Donald Lee Richardson or Soulville Allstars unreleased gems in a box in "sunny" Herne Hill I didn't rate the Tim Daniel side btw BH :search: :search: Captured_2006_6_29_00000.bmp
  18. Phill Wright was a consistantly good producer/arranger from Chicago, I always try and get a listen to anything I come across by him. BH
  19. My top summer soul sound Friends of Distinction "Grazing in the grass" but the untimate (for me) has to be "Groovin" The Rascals, loved it as a kid and still do. BH
  20. Hi Karen, Nicky here, can you put a name to any of the other faces ? I was there but felt like such a small fry being only sweet 16!! Is that Diane from Leeds at the front? I'm sure i will have some photos of Jaspers somewhere, have you any? Nicky
  21. I came a across a 45 the other day that I bought on the strength of the dealers recomendation, "one day this will be a monster" "Get this now whilst its cheap" etc etc. I wondered if anyone else has bought blind and the record dissapeared without trace? Oh, the record I bought Jackie Edwards "I must go back" on UK Horse, from John Manship, it was twenty five years ago and it was only £1.25 but I've yet to hear it played out never mind a monster. A fool and his money..... BH
  22. Playing throgh a box of 45s the other day and I was amazed when the Claudia Field 45 (see scan) turned out to be the brilliant Percy and Them "Look in the mirror of my eyes". I used to see the Claudia Field 45 a lot in the US, just wonder how many were the Percy 45 wrongly labeled Good Hunting BH percy_scan_00000.bmp
  23. You could join the Essential Modern Soul forum (if you havn't already) and list them in the sales and wants section. Dodger and Steve P are on here and would send the link I'm sure. BH
