  1. Ok, the Curtis Mayfield thread has got me thinking. As we all know on the rare soul scene we are always after ever more elusive and obscure tracks to listen to and dance to. Sometimes in this quest, I feel we can overlook or forget about many of the quality mainstream soul offerings out there. I am not on about northern soul classics here, I am on about big chart hits here. Please feel free to post your favorites. Curtis does top it for me, but only just...
  2. You could buy 2000 £1 45's... Or 200 £10 45's....
  3. Cheers for the CD suggestions guys, will check them out.
  4. I have been sorted for a copy, cheers all. I thought i posted this earlier.
  5. Please PM me with price and condition. I am not over fussy about what it grades at or label condition. However, it must play well and strong. No daft offers please. Thanks, Jordan
  6. It's hard to explain, but the night in question will probably be attended by mainly young non soullies. So I thought, including soulful house and mixing it with some 70s soul and maybe a bit of straight northern will make the entry to the music a lot easier. I am sorted for a copy now. Cheers
  7. Haha, I've always liked the song. And, I am thinking of putting a soul/soulful house night on with a friend. Thought this would fit perfectly with that vibe. Never, bought from discogs before?
  8. Please PM with price and condition. Thanks,
  9. I'm just starting get into 70's soul, love things like Magic Night, The Street People etc etc Whats a good CD to buy to listen to on my way to and from work? Cheers
  10. The incident I was talking about was at tbe Wigan young souls night. I am not knocking the night in any way, as they put a lot of effort into it. I dont know who the DJ was, but they turned up right at the end of my set and play Mr Floods Party after I had played it. I know it's not a groundbreaking tune, but I was on early doors so opened my set with a load of classic and got a decent floor reaction, but killed it with some more obscure tunes! Haha I mainly go to scooter rallies so thats where I get my soul fix, some times it can be fantastic and some of the best tunes ive heard. But others, can be dire. Funds are tight and I live in an obscure location, but I would like to get to a couple of quality nights at some point this year.
  11. As a new young DJ, I plan my sets weeks in advance according to venue and type of night I am playing at. I try and choose my set according to what time I'm on and I always try and use some imagination! I always get there first to see what the sst up is like decks and mixer etc. I bring about 3-4 times the amount of records I need so I can completely reorganize my set if needed and to avoid duplicating songs. Ive been at venues where the DJ has turned as my set finishes then plays a song or two thatbhave played... But I tell you what I would like to do, DJ somewhere where the NS top 20 wasn't the only way to get dance floor reaction! But thats another thread!
  12. Any one have a copy that plays well? Cheers
  13. I was joking... Just didnt put any smilies in Cheers, all i have a good idea on what i want to pay for a copy
  14. Hopefully every man and his dog isnt watching the one on eBay now, I didn't want to over bid as i couldnt find anything on popsike.
  15. Cheers, hopefully i will find a copy cheap.
  16. Whats the going rate for this please? Cheers
  17. Ive been heavily into soul for the last 3-4 years. But I have just started collecting records in the last year or so. However my first introduction to the music was in the 90s my dad had a tape that he got off a friend, I remember it being of poor sound quality. We used to go on many adventures in the car to far away location doing deal related to scooters. The tape was the soundtrack to all that.
  18. I cleared the floor with Willie Parker - I live The Life I Love... My dad asked me to play it, but even he left the floor! :O
  19. Is the legacy not that people like me (19 years old) are sat in their room booming out original records that would have never seen the light of day without the scene?
  20. Every time I make it to the really windy road I'm always short of fuel, freezing and its pitch black... Always a right mission!
  21. Oh, and mablethorpe.... thats always an epic journey on the scooter!
